If you WFH.. how do you spend your lunch break?

I kind of miss office lunch breaks.. out for food with a colleague, nose in the shops, walk along the river..

At home sometimes I drag myself to the gym if I'm lucky enough to get a break that isn't sandwiched either side by meetings. Walking around our local area is dull and been done to death during covid, and when it's cold it's not appealing at all.

I find myself bored doing errands rather than having some downtime to recharge. Doesn't help that my partner is always here so I can't be selfish and do something I'd like.. he just has pure shite on the tv like bargain hunt while he sits there on his phone.. and I can't relax! I'd love to sit and read a book but he's too noisy 😅

Keen to know how others spend their break! (And before anyone says yet, yes I know sometimes we're lucky to get one at all - that's an entirely different issue 😅)

I have an hour, it's a mix between cleaning, ironing, hoovering and veg prep for dinner. If it's nice out for a walk, sometimes take an extra 30 mins and go out for a nice lunch.

cocksstrideintheevening · 28/02/2023 13:09

I'm on lunch now, I'll actually get almost an hour today as no other meetings.

I've cleaned the kitchen, emptied the washing and out a new load in, made a sandwich and am on mn, I'll got to the shop in a minute as I have some parcels to post. Exciting times...

AlisonDonut · 28/02/2023 13:09

I've never had a job where I walked round the shops for lunch to be honest.mine when not working from home were spent in the van or the car or at the site offices trying to keep warm or cool depending on the time of year.

When I worked at home I'd make my lunch, and potter for 15 mins in the garden and make a coffee to take back through to the office for the afternoon. The TV rarely went on ever.

WFHbore2023 · 28/02/2023 13:11

I walk the dog.

Putting the laundry in the washing machine is what tea making breaks are for 😉

MrsJBaptiste · 28/02/2023 13:13

I'm on my lunch break now - just emptied the tumble drier, eaten my lunch and having a coffee and MN then back to it (just take half an hour or so)

Tomorrow I'm going to take the car to the car wash in the hope it will be quieter than after work!

AlwaysGinPlease · 28/02/2023 13:19

I usually take the full hour unless I want to start late or finish early. I eat, maybe put some washing on. Might take the dogs out. Watch tv for a bit. Be careful not to fall asleep on the sofa 😂

TheChosenTwo · 28/02/2023 13:24

mostly I aim for either a walk or a quick trip to the gym. I’m so inactive during the working day as like most when wfh I’m just sitting at my desk but my back causes me real issues if I’m not careful so I try and stick diligently to getting up and out every day.

vestanesta · 28/02/2023 13:31

Usually work tbh. I am crap at taking a lunch break although I am right now as I've been on b2b calls since 8 so need a break.

I say I'm going to exercise but I don't. I sometimes do a bit of housework but generally I just eat and read my phone for 20 mins.

I do occasionally have sex (with my husband, can't be arsed if I had to do it myself). It's not ideal if I have calls in the afternoon as I feel like I have one eye on the time. My best wfh sex time is the morning between when the kids leave for school and 9/9.15. That gives about 45 mins and you've not got too into the work day. Top tip here.

Twilightstarbright · 28/02/2023 13:33

I have a peloton so I work out in my lunch break when wfh.

JewelTheft · 28/02/2023 13:36

I tend to work through, but take a few 10 min breaks morning and afternoon to get stuff done around the house. I get work and housework done more efficiently that way and keep my evening free for downtime or exercise instead

SameOldJunk · 28/02/2023 12:51

ROCK n roll.

The shame Blush

Thanks ☺️ that tickled me!

I work from home most days - alternate between home and a small office space in a business centre (alone in my office). People pop in to have a cuppa and chat which is nice. I move away from my laptop, put a wash on, have some lunch, read Mumsnet and get back to it..much rather this than office politics

HumourReplacementTherapy · 28/02/2023 13:43

I always have good intentions but usually end up emptying the dishwasher then MN while I eat my lunch.
I have good intentions to go to the gym straight after work too Grin

Liellacat · 28/02/2023 13:50

Mines a mixed bag but I would like to get more of a routine.

our company allows us have up to two hours for lunch. Mainly I take around 40 mins, to an hour unless I really need the break.

Today I have changed the cats litter trays, swept the kitchen and made some spaghetti. Messaged a friend back. Watched a bit of white lotus. I’ve taken an hour today.

Other times I have done housework, gone for a longer walk, meditated on the decking with a coffee when the weathers allowed. Had a shower. Had my hair cut.

I would love to get in to a lunch time swim or something more productive I feel like I waste it sometimes!

Panapan · 28/02/2023 13:51

DH and I eat lunch together (I make it, he clears up). Then I hang out the washing (always put a load in pre the school run) and make a coffee.

Liellacat · 28/02/2023 13:52

@Twilightstarbright i have considered investing in one, are they worth it?

Fromwetome · 28/02/2023 13:53

Asleep. I nap for 45 minutes

ThreeRingCircus · 28/02/2023 13:53

It's not stop cock n roll here

Well, that's one way to spend your lunch break and at least it's active! 😉

Seriously though, I do try and do something vaguely healthy as I'm so sedentary sat at my desk with no commute. So it's the gym or a walk if I don't have meetings either side (sometimes walk with DH, other times listen to a podcast or walk to town and back and grab a takeaway coffee to make it more interesting than a walk round my housing estate!)

Pseudonamed · 28/02/2023 13:55

Yesterday brought the car to the car wash and topped up on diesel. Today I did the grocery shop. Nothing fun at all.

Season0fTheWitch · 28/02/2023 13:55

I drive somewhere to pick up lunch (costa, subway, local bakery) and either sit in my car at a pretty local area or come home and watch some tv and shut off from work for a bit.

SallyWD · 28/02/2023 14:00

Weather permitting I go for a walk locally. I do feel so much better if I get some light exercise and fresh air.

Amadeaa · 28/02/2023 14:00

I love my home lunch breaks. I take 1 hour break and I start with a short yoga session at home, then I prep food and eat while watching something silly on TV.

PositiveLife · 28/02/2023 14:21

Depends on meetings and how busy work is. Sometimes it's just make and eat lunch, plus something like empty the dishwasher or put a load of washing in. Other times I can take a bit longer so I'll either go for a (rather boring) 20 minute walk or watch an episode of TV.

Hoolihan · 28/02/2023 14:25

I don't usually take a lunch break, I'd rather work through while the kids are out and then have a break when they come in from school.

If I'm really tired though I might have a short nap.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 28/02/2023 14:36

usually doing one or two of the following: walk my dog, go for a run, make the dinner, put on the washing machine, watch tv!

BigusBumus1 · 28/02/2023 14:37

Im on (late) lunch. I just ate a pasta salad from M&S that was in the fridge, emptied the dishwasher and then cleaned the filter on my Hand held Dyson.

What fun!
