If you WFH.. how do you spend your lunch break?

I kind of miss office lunch breaks.. out for food with a colleague, nose in the shops, walk along the river..

At home sometimes I drag myself to the gym if I'm lucky enough to get a break that isn't sandwiched either side by meetings. Walking around our local area is dull and been done to death during covid, and when it's cold it's not appealing at all.

I find myself bored doing errands rather than having some downtime to recharge. Doesn't help that my partner is always here so I can't be selfish and do something I'd like.. he just has pure shite on the tv like bargain hunt while he sits there on his phone.. and I can't relax! I'd love to sit and read a book but he's too noisy 😅

Keen to know how others spend their break! (And before anyone says yet, yes I know sometimes we're lucky to get one at all - that's an entirely different issue 😅)

Half an hour of loose women and cheese and crackers for me!

katepilar · 28/02/2023 20:18

Do you have a slot from work for your lunch break? I guess that is different to when you take breaks as and when you please which is what I have.

I either just have lunch if I have meal at home, or go out to have lunch and a walk in the park and that takes at least two hours. But I also have another job where I do sometimes go out for lunch with colleagues.

Yesterday I had a nap in my lunch break. It was great! I occasionally have a bath. Can just about fit in a pedicure too. Often just work through (bad, I know).

Kellymm88 · 28/02/2023 20:23

Get on to love honey and get yourself a good toy for lunchtime fun! Absolutely the best way to break up the day

TheClitterati · 28/02/2023 20:29

I don't really have lunch breaks. I just do what I want when I want to do it. Sometime I start late, errands, friend for coffee, etc. Lunch breaks stopped when I started to wfh.

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 28/02/2023 21:56

I'm freelance so if I'm not out at meetings (therefore WFH all day) I'll go for a run straight after drop off then just work through😊

MyOwnVolt · 28/02/2023 21:58

I walk 3 miles with the dog

catgirl1976 · 28/02/2023 21:59

What are all these jobs where people get lunch breaks? I’ve not had one for years and thought they were a thing of the past. Am jealous

Blueink · 28/02/2023 22:01

Don’t have an hour for lunch, but 5-10m meditation or body scan, heat and eat lunch, take a short walk.

Don't regularly take mine but they are unpaid breaks so everyday I miss a lunch break I'm donating an hour's work for free. Five hours of free labour each week soon adds up to a fair donation of time! Makes a change for me to take a break like I did this week but there is plenty of unpaid overtime being given away by lots of us! Every now and again, I try to make more of an effort to have a full break and make the most of it but there is always more and more work to try and squeeze in.

In theory I go for a walk and/or do something in the garden but all my plans are scuppered by the need to schedule meetings around other people's school runs, dog walks and most infuriatingly people who don't like mornings so won't have meetings before 10.30am (even midday is called an early meeting) I don't feel I can admit to wanting to do something as piggy as eat lunch in the middle of the day when it's the only time that works for everyone else, but if it were up to me I'd have a long 2hr plus break in the middle of the day and then work later to compensate.

DH works from home so when I do get lunch I eat with him, which is nice because we chat and eat off plates like civilized people but it takes loads of time up getting things out and making salads and whatnot that I wouldn't do just for myself.

TheNine · 28/02/2023 22:14

Brisk outdoor walk and then eat lunch in front of 30mins of a reality show.

MdNdD · 28/02/2023 23:10

Walk the dog. Loads of my colleagues do the same.

sometimes I start yoga, using an app. Never lasts long, but I do try.

MysteryBelle · 28/02/2023 23:35

Similar to another poster. 35 minutes for walk, 10 minutes to make lunch, 15 minutes to eat and then make a mug of cold chocolate to take back to my desk. In the heat of summer I walk on the treadmill instead or walk outside in the morning. If I get exercise in the morning, I’ll spend that time at lunch on my iPad and doing a bit of laundry.

MrsMikeDrop · 28/02/2023 23:42

Working....I'm terrible! I'm not very good at taking breaks.

browneyes77 · 28/02/2023 23:44

If the weather is nice I’ll go for a walk over the local fields.

This time of year, I’ll grab a cuppa and a snack and watch Escape to the Country to dream about all the lovely houses I could buy if I win the lottery. And also to be just downright nosey 🤣

I love that show too 😊

browneyes77 · 01/03/2023 00:33

I watch in envy because I don’t have the money to just my own home yet. But I do love looking inside other homes and getting decorating ideas. And also dreaming about kitchens. It’s all about the kitchen 🤣🤣

Jumanji89 · 01/03/2023 08:24

I work from home 5 days a week and make sure I have my full hour as I'd got into the habit of eating at my desk but didn't find it healthy. I always do something for me and won't do any housework again as I found that I ended up resenting having no 'me time' especially with having 2 young DC's. Now I will make sure in my lunch hour that I either go for a walk, have a bath, watch tv or read. Basically an hour to switch off from everything

Hmm1234 · 01/03/2023 08:43

How long is your lunch break to get time to go out!? Lol I normally take a nap which drags into the virtual team meeting

KateAusten · 01/03/2023 09:07

I eat my lunch

LlynTegid · 01/03/2023 10:19

I now have a cooked lunch instead of evening meal and found it to be a better choice (and money saving).

I have a walk in the afternoon so finish work at a set time.

Ilikeredtoomuch · 01/03/2023 11:15

I mark books, read emails, print off worksheets, talk to kids who have been kept in etc. Then I nip for a wee and make a cuppa before rushing outside to collect the class. I do remember when I worked in an office, next to a gym, how I used to do a half hour class in my break, and then eat my sandwich at my desk. When I started teaching, we might nip to the pub occasionally but we haven’t done that in at least 15 years.

Twilightstarbright · 06/03/2023 13:41

@Liellacat so sorry I missed the notification! I love it because it makes it easy for me and I don’t need childcare. There’s also a lot of short classes so I can take 5/10 mins to move.

I like the strength, core and barre classes as well as the cycling.
