If you WFH.. how do you spend your lunch break?

I kind of miss office lunch breaks.. out for food with a colleague, nose in the shops, walk along the river..

At home sometimes I drag myself to the gym if I'm lucky enough to get a break that isn't sandwiched either side by meetings. Walking around our local area is dull and been done to death during covid, and when it's cold it's not appealing at all.

I find myself bored doing errands rather than having some downtime to recharge. Doesn't help that my partner is always here so I can't be selfish and do something I'd like.. he just has pure shite on the tv like bargain hunt while he sits there on his phone.. and I can't relax! I'd love to sit and read a book but he's too noisy 😅

Keen to know how others spend their break! (And before anyone says yet, yes I know sometimes we're lucky to get one at all - that's an entirely different issue 😅)

I get 30mins and in the colder months I walk the dog and in the warmer months I do yoga or have a nap. DDog gets walked in the early morning when it’s warmer! I spend the whole day in front of a screen so it’s important to me I get a good screen break!

I usually WFH on a Monday and that's DH's day off, so we watch The Last Of Us and eat lunch in front of the TV. Yesterday he was at an appointment so I cleaned out the guinea pigs' cage instead. Fun.

I have been known to clean out the guinea pig cage too. A highlight of my working day.

I like a YouTube work out usually get fit with Ric

I don't stop. Work through like I tend to in the office. But I take breaks throughout the day more than I do when I'm in the office (put a wash on, hang it out, empty dishwasher, think about dinner). Probably doesn't add up to the half hour I'm supposed to get. Just got too much to do and not enough time. Finished at 6:30 tonight (paid until 5) 🙄

Most days I walk the dog. Today someone else did, so I filled the car with diesel.

It's not stop cock n roll here Grin

😅😅😅

Winter - soup, crisps & fruit in front of tv. Spring/summer - salad & fruit and a 30 minute walk around the block. Plus a walk before I start in the morning if it’s sunny. I wfh almost permanently and consolidate 5 days into 4 which means I get a 3 day weekend every week and then longer over bank holidays so we go away!

georgarina · 28/02/2023 19:28

Take a walk with my headphones in

280NeuerNamen · 28/02/2023 19:28

These all make me realise I need to get out at lunchtime. I am self employed so tend to work through, nobody is keeping an eye on me. I need to return to going for a short walk at lunchtime.

I do try and go to the gym with a friend a couple of mornings before we start work but that has slipped by the wayside. As well as being good for me it was great social company as wfh and being self employed can be a lonely life. Time to reinstate!

if DH is wfh we do sometimes lunch together but our timings rarely coincide.

Mandyjack · 28/02/2023 19:30

Even when I was in the office I used to come home for lunch as live fairly close. I have food and watch loose women and sometimes have a nap!

oldwhyno · 28/02/2023 19:31

WFH full time. At least once a week on average, on the days my other half isn’t working, we’ll have sex.

other days I’ll have a bite to eat and watch the news.

What work do you do if you don't mine me asking?
I'm considering changing jobs but want to continue to WFH

Hottubby · 28/02/2023 19:31

I am lucky if I get 30 mins. Put the kettle on, go to the loo, make a sandwich. Go back to my desk to eat and carry on. I think that’s pretty normal for most people?

Maternityleavelady · 28/02/2023 19:32

I cook something tasty or go out for lunch with DP or go swimming or do life admin, cooking or cleaning or watch Netflix. I enjoy the silence with my kids at nursery!

rocksonrocks · 28/02/2023 19:39

I have an hour, I’m usually sleeping during this time!

I use my “tea breaks” for laundry, dishwasher etc.

At the beginning of COVID we would occasionally have sex but the novelty has worn off I think, it makes me feel too guilty!

Wexone · 28/02/2023 19:41

depends. some days empty the dishwasher put a load of washing in quick hoover. but always have to walk dogs. sometimes I sit and watch TV while eating or meet someone for lunch but mostly eat when go back to my desk

jaundicedoutlook · 28/02/2023 19:42

Quick jaunt to the gym (at the bottom of the garden); cook & eat; quick kitchen tidy and sort anything that might need sorting for the evening; sit on kitchen sofa and scratch the cat’s chin/belly/tail base (depending on how accommodating he’s feeling); make coffee; back to work.

Santasjingleballs · 28/02/2023 19:44

Then go to the office if your bored working from home

Mummadeze · 28/02/2023 19:47

If my partner is hogging the TV I watch an episode of something in the bedroom on my phone with a lunch tray. I find it quite relaxing actually.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 28/02/2023 19:54

I play with my dogs - either take them out for a walk, do a little training or play a game with them. I like having a walk best, but it is raining heavily I dont. I always listen to a pod cast and have a bunch that come out on different days so I really look forward to listening to them while I am walking.

silentpool · 28/02/2023 19:56

I do some housework or sometimes run errands locally.

MissingMoominMamma · 28/02/2023 19:56

When I WFH, I walk the dogs on my lunch break.

TinklyLaughTime · 28/02/2023 20:03

I walk the dog. 2 minute drive to a big Country park, 1 hour off lead walk, 2 mins home and then usually 15 minutes to wash her down and towel and hairdry her as she's filthy. I take longer than my allowed 1 hour lunch but meh, no one notices as long as I get my work done.

My actual lunch I eat at my desk while I work.

bonzaitree · 28/02/2023 20:06

Shag my bf.

TheySeeMeRowling · 28/02/2023 20:09

I work through lunch and finish early

Soapnotshowergel · 28/02/2023 20:15

Today I read a magazine, put some washing on, prepped dinner, did the washing up, went out for a quick 15 minute walk round the block. Tomorrow I need to run some errands so I'll do that and grab a sandwich while I'm out.

If DH is home we'll often have a quickie and then a sandwich!
