For me it's Celine Dion - Think Twice. Don't know what it is about that song but even as a fairly young child it always got me!

God only knows -The Beach Boys
The Scientist-Coldplay
Amsterdam-Coldplay
wings -Birdy (the accoustic version )
The Winner Takes it All -ABBA
Against all Odds -Phil Collins

all guaranteed to reduce me to a snivelling wailing pile of snot

Seasons in the Sun.

I remember being on a swing in the 70s and the lyrics were going through my young head and they suddenly hit me and I realised for the first time that my parents would die and they wouldn't live forever. I cried all night and it's making me tear up now, as my parents are near the end of their lives.

The Scientist by Coldplay.

Yes I always forget about this - great song

Coconutbutt · 22/02/2023 23:25

Nothing compares 2 u by Sinead O'connor and also Let it be by the Beatles as it was the song being played as the coffin was being carried in at the first funeral I had ever been to and now I can only associate it with that experience

mrstea301 · 22/02/2023 23:32

@Username721 both to be honest, but primarily Celtic for me because I live in Glasgow!

Mistymornin · 22/02/2023 23:33

I dreamed a dream from Les Mis..my Mums favourite musical. We had it at her funeral when Mummy was brought into the crematorium…still cry when I hear it.

That’s the correct answer. 😆

Yes I've heard it but I much prefer Dire Straits version. It's such a personal song, I don't think anyone else covering it does it justice.

(For anyone that doesn't know, Mark Knopfler wrote this after he was dumped)

For the one I lost

Goodnight, Travel Well- The Killers

“Stay, don't leave me
The stars can wait for your sign
Don't signal now

There's nothing I can say
There's nothing we can do now
There's nothing I can say
There's nothing we can do now”

Enya-Exile

“I'll wait the signs to come.
I'll find a way
I will wait the time to come.
I'll find a way home.
My light shall be the moon
And my path - the ocean.
My guide the morning star
As I sail home to you.”

Whatineed · 23/02/2023 00:20

Breathe Me by Sia.

I heard that song at a time when I felt completely broken and just wanted someone to pick me up and think for me.

It's such a raw song. It gets me every time.

To Zion by Lauren Hill.

When I found myself pregnant by my ex and his subsequent reaction, I knew I'd be doing it alone. And I went against all rational thoughts on my career and went with my heart.

My son is 18 now, and it's been a journey, but the right decision, but that song still takes me back to those early days.

salsmum · 23/02/2023 00:22

Through the barricades SB.
Don't Give up by Kate Bush and Peter Gabrielle.
Love of my Life by queen ( I chose this for my husbands funeral).

Supermarket flowers... Not a sobber but they just make me go aaaawwww 🤔

insomniac1 · 23/02/2023 00:23

Imagine

aSofaNearYou · 23/02/2023 09:51

Was going to say this too. His Mum is credited as a co-writer of the song. I think I read that she said to him as he was dying that he should close his eyes because they were going to go flying together that night. Heartbreaking.

Gosh that really puts the chorus line into context, so devastating.

FizzyStream · 23/02/2023 09:54

Bright eyes - Simon and Garfunkel
Just the association with Watership Down sets me off.
