Weird but amusing!

@Igotjelly noodles hanging from ears is a Russian saying that means to tell lies or pull your leg.

Natsku · 03/03/2023 10:43

I just saw on twitter briefly (one of those annoying times that you see a tweet and just as you go to click on it it disappears) that was an explosion in the Moscow area, anyone else see this on twitter or elsewhere?

Oh that’s really interesting!

Thank you for that..

I was wondering if the gentleman in the image was simply a follower of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster but there was obviously something much more serious than that going on.

@ReleaseTheDucksOfWar

β€œFrance is considering the possibility of transferring Mirage fighters to Ukraine, – the head of the Ministry of Defense, SΓ©bastien Lecornu
According to him, Ukrainian pilots can undergo training in Poland. The fate of 12 Mirage fighters, decommissioned and transferred to storage in the summer of 2022, is still being discussed.”

Very much an ongoing discussion/debate.

I’m not sure supplying a dozen or so aircraft makes sense …

Longer article on the subject from a few days ago here:

Some quite interesting reports coming out of the G20 - from the Guardian, Josep Borrell has suggested some improvements in diplomatic engagement with Russia. For example Lavrov didn't leave the room when members criticised Russia (may seem insignificant but given the importance Russia place on symbolism I'd say its probably important).

Borrell also suggested that the EU would not support kicking Russia off bodies like the G20 because of the importance of diplomatic engagement at any possible level.

yes, and one about a fire at an air training facility. The moscow one seems to have fizzled out though.

shit, that's not good news.

Do you have a link? I couldn't find it on cnn.com.

It sounds to me more like Ukraine blew up the bridge after pulling out of that particular area. If the bridge was vital to their withdrawal it would have been defended.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 03/03/2023 16:37

kyivindependent.com/news-feed/cnn-reports-russian-hit-on-vital-bridge-to-bakhmut-as-wagner-leader-claims-city-is-practically-surrounded

Having said that, another set of people said it was the Ukrainians blew it up, as you say.

The Kyiv Independent is good but they report news early and so sometimes more accurate info becomes clear later. So it might not be accurate that it was the Russians.

@MissConductUS on their live stream. Think this is the link edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-news-03-3-23/h_2194d84ca2808eaf0836eece6e2bdf85

Igotjelly · 03/03/2023 16:45

Think it’s a different bridge.

MissConductUS · 03/03/2023 16:49

Igotjelly · 03/03/2023 16:40

Color me skeptical. I don't think an Iskander missile is accurate enough to take out a tiny bridge like that. The CEP (circular error probability) is listed as either 10-30 meters or 30 to 70 meters, depending on the variant. My disinformation antenna is twitching.

missiledefenseadvocacy.org/missile-threat-and-proliferation/todays-missile-threat/russia/iskander-m-ss-26/

And that's just a creek, a few meters wide. I doubt it would take the engineers long to put something temporary in its place.

Exactly this 🀣

notimagain · 03/03/2023 17:37

Vaguely relevant given the inability to easily verify some recent claims -

aviationweek.com/defense-space/budget-policy-operations/usaf-mobility-aircraft-operating-without-most-markings-tail

FWIW I know our American friends removed obvious tail numbers from one of their rarer and more sensitive aircraft types quite a few years ago after it became apparent that spotters (and others) could glean potentially useful information on certain aircraft deployments simply by making a note of markings.....

Wonder if ADS tracking will also end up being more cloaked.

Amispringy · 03/03/2023 18:19

I enjoyed that but he's so obstinate

They all are. Totally doubling down on their weak reasons for their atrocities.

@Amispringy it certainly takes a special sort of dickhead to continually spout rubbish you know nobody believes.

The perks must be good

@Igotjelly @MissConductUS that is quite a perk to be fair

Just listening to the latest battleground Ukraine podcast (worth a listen) and they mentioned that the Czech Republic are providing Ukraine with fake HIMAR props. Hadn’t even thought of that, what a good idea. Also explains how the Russians keep saying they’ve destroyed more than are actually in the field.

Previously they were wooden decoys. These latest HIMAR props could be inflatable. That's technological progress.

I don't think they even saw the decoys in most cases. There's a lot of pressure to report "good news", true or not. Putin says, "destroy the Himars!", the General says, "destroy the Himars!", the Major says "destroy the Himars!". If the Lieutenant doesn't; want to get assigned to ammo depot guard duty, he tells the Major that he destroyed a Himars.

MissConductUS, that makes sense. Just another example of how a murderous despot like Putin cannot get good information.
