I really can’t wait for ours tonight - toad in the hole with double cream mash, broccoli, cauliflower cheese ( just for me) & the most yummy sounding onion & red wine gravy.

Something with potatoes and turkey mince. Not sure what. Both need using up and big shop not coming until later, but I am feeling uninspired. Maybe some kind of cottage pie riff. Or does anyone have any better ideas?

Roterosen · 19/02/2023 14:10

What time to you make your 'tea'? Is it in the afternoon like 'Afternoon Tea'?

MyCatsSlave · 19/02/2023 14:10

Homemade chicken pie with mashed potato and green beans

DementedPanda · 19/02/2023 14:12

Roast leg of lamb, roasties, green beans, broccoli, carrots, sprouts, mashed swede and of course Yorkshire puddings and gravy.

We are also having toad in the hole, with roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and honey roasted carrots. Gravy is also essential.

We have a chocolate gateau for pudding, with squirty cream.

In some parts of the UK dinner, or your evening meal can be referred to as tea. I grew up calling it tea. I still feel awkward, like I'm trying to be posh if I call it dinner. I have heard people refer to it as supper as well.

Ilovetocrochet · 19/02/2023 14:23

I’m having bbq flavoured pork loin steaks with roast potatoes, carrots and green beans - also some homemade sausage and apple stuffing which I’ve made for the chicken tomorrow but can’t wait that long as I love it! I’ll be cooking the meat and potatoes in my air fryer.

No usually around 5pm to 8pm. Afternoon tea tends to be between 13.00-15.00 I would think 🤷‍♀️. I do know of farmers that will have "tea" which includes cakes, around 4pm, before milking the cows.

Thanks - I'm not from the Uk originally and have only thought of 'tea' as tea 🫖.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 19/02/2023 14:35

Full roast beef dinner. Been in the garden all day tidying it up and cannot wait for dinner and a glass of white.

OriGanOver · 19/02/2023 15:43

I'm well jell of some of these.

I'm having to use up a ton of courgettes and aubergines so am making a large pot of tomato sauce with the veg and will make a gnocchi pasta bake with it.

Decafflatteplease · 19/02/2023 15:46

All these meals sound lovely! We are having sausage roast dinner so sausages (honey and cranberry from the butcher's) roasties, Yorkshire's, carrots. And chocolate cake and cream for pudding. Then when dc asleep and having a glass of wine in the bath with my kindle and cant flipping wait!

bigbluebus · 19/02/2023 15:50

Roast pork and apple sauce with roast potatoes and parsnips, sprouts and carrots and lashings of gravy.

DillDanding · 19/02/2023 15:52

I think we know what the OP means by ‘tea’. We refer to our evening meal as dinner but
we’re not obtuse enough to feign confusion at those who call it tea.

We are having roast chicken and salad as we’ve been eating Keto since New Year and have all but forgotten about carbs.

FavouriteSlippers · 19/02/2023 15:52

Roast chicken

DesertRose64 · 19/02/2023 15:54

I had a steak with baked potato and sautéed garlicky Swiss chard. It was delicious.

MissMarplesbag · 19/02/2023 15:54

Minced meat burritos with red kidney beans, salsa and the works.

mamaduckbone · 19/02/2023 15:55

We had a roast at lunch time because ds1 has now gone to work.
Roast chicken, stuffing, pigs in blankets (leftover in the freezer from Christmas), roasted roots and green veg.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 19/02/2023 16:07

Knew somebody would have to question “ tea”! Does it really matter? You can say lunch or dinner & you can say tea or dinner!
