Is anyone going to more effort tonight for a Valentines Dinner?

What are you having?

I'm going old school with a prawn cocktail, lamb, veg and smashed potatoes and I need to decide on a healthy dessert. I'm thinking of baked bananas and honey instead of cake and ice cream.

I'll let dh pick which of the Hello Fresh dishes he prefers for tonight. That's it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/02/2023 11:49

Current plan is fish/cheese and chips and crème brûlée. But I’m not sure I’ve got all the ingredients for the latter in so might change.

Bruschetta, steak with hassleback potatoes etc and chocolate mousse.

homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream

I'm not going to a huge effort because our anniversary is coming up in a few days time and we make more of a thing of that (will make a three course meal and have champagne).

Tonight I'm making DH's favourite - steak and homemade chunky chips, with a peppercorn/brandy sauce and fried mushrooms and onions. Might add some roasted beetroot too, because there's some in the freezer that needs using.

Pudding will be individual 'trifles' (because we were ill over Christmas so DH didn't get his usual homemade trifle). I'll layer strawberry jelly, custard, double cream, and top with strawberry compote. Might add some dark choc curls as well.

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/02/2023 11:56

Nah, I'm making absolutely no effort at all. Hardly a romantic meal with a teenager around who guzzles everything in sight up. So probably chicken Kiev, baked beans and a jacket potato.

Netcam · 14/02/2023 12:05

DS1 (he's 18) is cooking sirloin steak and chips for me and him. DS2 and DH don't eat steak so they're having M&S gastropub fish and chips. And there will be veg to balance all of this out! And a Gail's bakery chocolate cake. And wine. So yes, splashing out quite a bit, maybe £35 total cost, but still much cheaper than eating out.

runwithme · 14/02/2023 12:14

Nope, it's just me and the kids tonight as DH is working, but if he wasn't then it would still be the same. A big bowl of pasta.

Sparkletastic · 14/02/2023 12:15

Waitrose dine in for two ❤️❤️

Ringmaster27 · 14/02/2023 12:18

I have no idea!
All I’ve been told is that I’m being taken somewhere private for dinner and to wear a nice dress 🤷🏻‍♀️👀
I’m a little nervous because my DP loves arty farty, posh food in restaurants where you get 3 bites arranged nicely on the plate and pay £££‘s while leaving hungry 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

We had a Valentine’s dinner party on Saturday night with fillet steak, peppercorn sauce etc, choc dipped strawberries, salted caramel tart and Champagne.

UsernameTaken76 · 14/02/2023 12:40

Waitrose dine in for two. It’s probably less effort than a normal meal as just needs to go in the oven.

TheFlis12345 · 14/02/2023 12:43

M&S dine in for two, Coquilles Saint-Jacques, steak and chips, chocolate fondants and a bottle of Malbec. I’m looking forward to it already!

HelloDaisy · 14/02/2023 12:45

We’ve been evicted from the kitchen by teenage dd so she can cook for her boyfriend so we’re off to the pub with our lovely friends for a few drinks and some cheeky chips!

SouperNoodle · 14/02/2023 12:45

We're gonna order a pizza and make googly eyes at each other over a glass of box-wine 😂

Lottapianos · 14/02/2023 12:48

Pizza and wine sounds great!

I'm making kale and mushroom lasagne, and Nigella's chocolate and tahini pudding. Bottle of prosecco to go with. Excited 😁

Walterwhiteswifey · 14/02/2023 12:48

Making our favourite fajitas, nom nom

Happysalley · 14/02/2023 12:49

Tesco £12 meal deal for me and the dc! I've celebrated Valentine's with them since they were tiny. I think they'd be quite upset if I ever find a boyfriend and want to spend it with him 🤣

Vebrithien · 14/02/2023 12:50

Sausage, mash and homemade Yorkshire puddings.
Not fancy, but DH's absolute favourite.

Going to feed the children first, and have it without them.

And cherry choux buns 😋

ODFOx · 14/02/2023 12:53

I've bought ready meals so we'll have time to watch a film together. Really looking forward to a lazy evening together.

BreviloquentBastard · 14/02/2023 12:55

We do the same thing every year, dim sum and cuddles on the sofa. To the extent that it's now called Dim Sum Day in our house instead of Valentine's Day.

Pinkglittery · 14/02/2023 12:55

I went for Asdas valentines meal deal, so Brie wedges to start, steaks with garlic butter, triple cooked chips, cauliflower cheese, some millionaires pudding thing and a bottle of wine for DP as I'm pregnant. The Brie things looked really nice and I want all six of them so I've supplemented with a tempura prawn starter thing that only DP will like and got garlic mushrooms, onion rings and peas to go with the main. If I can't drink, I'm at least going to enjoy the food!!

Kentlassie · 14/02/2023 12:57

DH is making carbonara. And I’m going to attempt to make a selection of brownies for a valentines present/ dessert…

RoyKent · 14/02/2023 13:00

Out for a surprise dinner. DP has said several times how posh the menu is!

autumn1610 · 14/02/2023 13:02

Totally forgot it was Valentine’s Day today when I left the house neither of us mentioned it! So on the effort for tonight we have jacket potatoes and tuna 😂
