Is anyone going to more effort tonight for a Valentines Dinner?

What are you having?

I'm going old school with a prawn cocktail, lamb, veg and smashed potatoes and I need to decide on a healthy dessert. I'm thinking of baked bananas and honey instead of cake and ice cream.

I had planned some lovely sole but I’m husband is recovering from a stomach bug and really doesn’t want fish.
Any ideas anyone???
I guess something spicy or cheesy probably won’t tickle his pickle either.
mom sure he will manage the champagne and cheesecake though 🤦🏻‍♀️

(Typing one handed doesn’t work)
spelling mistakes 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😅

DH got us steak and creme brulee when he did the shopping at the weekend. Which is the usual valentine for us. Never go out on Valentine's... both of us agree it's probably the worst night of the year for going out....

Andsoforth · 14/02/2023 13:12

Steak for dh, bearnaise sauce and garlic potatoes. We hardly ever have steak these days as I’ve gone right off it since peri-m hit, and dh is watching his waist. I’ll do salmon for myself.

MaverickGooseGoose · 14/02/2023 13:14

DH is in charge, I wont be home until late. Likely chicken and chips from the freezer but I'm a cynical old bag about valentines day.

merlotlover · 14/02/2023 13:19

We're off to ikea for tea 😅 super romantic

PandaG · 14/02/2023 13:20

Was intending on a treat meal tomorrow as adult son is out on Wednesday evenings, menu tbc, but as I came down with Covid at the weekend and feel like poo nice meal will be pushed back until I am feeling better.

OldTinHat · 14/02/2023 13:25

It's my wedding anniversary today so I shall be celebrating with a load of other divorced friends in our local Spoons!

FindingMyselfIn2023 · 14/02/2023 13:34

Prawn cocktail
Steam/triple cooked chips/veg/creamy mushroom sauce
Gu dessert pot
Maybe a couple of vodkas to wash it all down

😋 whether the kids will stay quiet in bed long enough for us to eat it is another matter!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/02/2023 13:44

Probably boil a beetroot, shape it a little and then add some penne pasta and make it look like a heart. Then serve it in a red wine jus.

👀(not part of the recipe I just can't seem to delete these eyes!)

antipodeancanary · 14/02/2023 13:45

Yes we are getting in a kebab!

BodyShapeWoes · 14/02/2023 13:45

As per normal I completely forgot ignored Valentine’s Day!

I am hankering after a jacket potato so will probably have those for tea 🤷‍♀️

We don’t really bother with it and never have guess neither of us are overly romantic 😂

We make more of an effort for our wedding anniversary and birthdays

xogossipgirlxo · 14/02/2023 13:47

We're getting sushi tonight. If we didn't order takeaway, I would probably cook something nicer than usual.

TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2023 13:48

Probably not!
We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day so just a normal night for us. Dh does the cooking so I’ll be eating (along with 2 of the dc!) whatever he makes. It will be delicious though, it’s always very tasty and he does put a lot of effort into our dinners anyway so no complaints here.

AliasGrape · 14/02/2023 13:48

Last few days have been a bit hectic and I’ve not been too well so it’s not going to be tons of effort and home cooking, but we are having a slightly nicer meal than a standard Tuesday night tea!

Making a curry (home made but fairly easy version) and have bought some nice sides to go with it from M&S.
DH also picked up a lotus biscoff cheesecake for desert.

We generally eat early with DD, so it’s not going to be super romantic, but I might make a supreme effort to clear all the arts/ crafts/ assorted toddler detritus off the table and maybe even stick a cloth on for extra ambiance.

Chooba · 14/02/2023 13:51

We're having the Co-Op Valentine's meal deal. DP has a late meeting, so it's something to whack in the oven that isn't the normal stuff I do.

Seasidemumma77 · 14/02/2023 13:54

Cooking bf's favourite Lasagne

lazarusb · 14/02/2023 14:02

DH is vegetarian and I am on holiday this week so have planned Artichoke Bruschetta, Mushrooms in a cream sauce with fresh pasta, raspberry and champagne possets with heart shaped shortbread biscuits. I have a nice bottle of wine in the fridge as well as the rest of the champagne. Table set with candlelit lanterns and fresh white rose petals ❤️

GiltEdges · 14/02/2023 14:07

We’ve got the M&S dine in deal. Steak, chips, some kind of veg and a Heston Blumenthal dessert IIRC. Champagne on ice for me, bottle of red for DH ☺️

Rosio · 14/02/2023 14:23

We've got a gousto box due today, might do the valentines Sriracha Chicken Burger from that

TaRaDeBumDeAy · 14/02/2023 14:28

You know what, I'm having a proper pudding, diets aren't for high days and holidays 😄

OP posts:
BrendaWearingBaffies · 14/02/2023 14:30

Nope. It's just an evening meal like any other.

EmotionallyUnavailableGuacamole · 14/02/2023 14:30

DH out tonight, so I’m hoping he leaves me some cash for a takeaway 😀

Lottapianos · 14/02/2023 14:40

'It's my wedding anniversary today so I shall be celebrating with a load of other divorced friends in our local Spoons!'

Good for you! Hope you all have a great evening 👍
