Is anyone going to more effort tonight for a Valentines Dinner?

What are you having?

I'm going old school with a prawn cocktail, lamb, veg and smashed potatoes and I need to decide on a healthy dessert. I'm thinking of baked bananas and honey instead of cake and ice cream.

Ranch steaks with garlic butter, breaded garlic mushrooms, triple cooked chips & petitpois. I never have room for pud & DH is happy with a yogurt.

Deadringer · 14/02/2023 15:54

No i didnt even think about it, just having a roast. I did make a cake though.

Ohifyouinsist · 14/02/2023 15:56

No, no extra effort here. I wonder how many men's forums have threads about what special meal they're cooking tonight?

DH is working late all week so we're having a special meal on Saturday when he's off instead.

We ordered the £15 deal from Morrisons so we have scallop and prawn Thermidor gratins to start, rump steak with peppercorn butter, triple cooked chunky chips and ciabatta garlic breadsticks for main (I have veg to add on the side too which wasn't in the deal but I haven't decided what I'll cook yet), caramel profiteroles for dessert, and a bottle of Prosecco to enjoy alongside it all.

We also went out last Friday for a boozy lunch in a different town to where we live and didn't get home until 10pm.

Galadriel90 · 14/02/2023 15:58

Yep I am. Making roast duck either plum sauce and celeriac gratin. Followed by chocolate cherry pudding. Washed down with Champagne 🥂

Pigwidzeon · 14/02/2023 15:59

will probably stop into the supermarket for a couple of Gu puddings but other than that it's left over roast dinner tonight

Elerandooo · 14/02/2023 16:01

Starter will be baked Brie wrapped in prosciutto with a bacon and honey glaze.
Main will be fillet steak, blue cheese sauce, roasted carrots and hasselback baby potatoes.
We never bother with a dessert, so will be wine instead.
And I will sit on my lazy arse while partner makes the lot 😁

Wallabyone · 14/02/2023 16:04

Lots of delicious sounding meals! We're having lasagne, with chocolate brownies and double cream for pudding. Us and the children!

TheDogsMother · 14/02/2023 16:10

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 14/02/2023 16:24

Sort of, but not really.

I got some meals from Waitrose. DH is vegetarian. I have one DS with sensory processing disorder around fod so his eating is hit or miss- mainly miss.

Starter -

DH- mushroom pate with salad
Me and DS2 - Salmon terrine with caviar and salad
DS1 - plain prawns with iceberg lettuce and baguette

Main

DH- mushroom pie with root vegetable gratin and peas
DS 2 and Me- chicken pie with vegetable gratin and peas
DS1 - chicken pie with sweetcorn

Dessert

DH- pecan pie
DS2 and Me - pecan pie
DS1- vanilla icecream

So, slightly different but I am just heating it all up so no stress.

Sounds great Grin enjoy

God, tbh I'd prefer this!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 14/02/2023 16:34

Takeaway for us tonight.

Alwaysworryingoversomething · 14/02/2023 16:38

We went out last night and a lovely dinner by the sea, lots of fish and seafood and some nice wine (for me, DH was driving).

Tonight I'm just making chicken + cauliflower satay. No puddings or wine tonight.

Spottypaperdoll · 14/02/2023 16:48

All this talk of steaks is bringing my heart burn on 😅

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 14/02/2023 16:50

M&S Dine In - Tempura Prawns, Rump Steak with Peppercorn Sauce, Chunky Chips, and Profiteroles, with a bottle of Pinot Blush.

gogohmm · 14/02/2023 16:52

Dp is away on business so I get to please myself - pan fried scallops with lemon and capers on sourdough

MangoBiscuit · 14/02/2023 16:55

I've thrown a bunch of veg that needs using up into the slow cooker, with rice, chopped tomatoes, stock, and a bunch of spices. It smells nice enough. But no, no extra effort involved.

LBOCS2 · 14/02/2023 17:02

Dim sum and champagne here - any excuse for a bit of a celebration frankly 😂

caringcarer · 14/02/2023 17:03

I feel bad but not going to any extra effort tonight. A car crashed into me a few days ago now I am having to drive hated hire car. I'm feeling very stressed as my feet don't reach pedals very well. Have a terrible headache from concentrating so hard. Child needs driving to karate this evening. DH very busy with work as colleague off sick for 3 weeks now and deadlines looming. Meal out will have to be at weekend.

caringcarer · 14/02/2023 17:08

After reading all the effort others are going to I feel worse.

caringcarer · 14/02/2023 17:08

Maybe manage a takeaway.

'Putting a bit more effort in to a weeknight dinner is hardly 'making a big deal' Confused'

Some people love to get sniffy about Valentine's day. I completely get that lots of people find it awful, and it does get shoved down your throat in the supermarket for weeks beforehand (like all of these 'days'), which is tiresome. But I enjoy it and I'm not ashamed! 😊 It's a nice opportunity for a slightly fancy dinner and a bottle of fizz on a weeknight

Yeah, we aren't doing anything more than a slightly nicer dinner tonight. When we woke up I said to DH happy card shop day, and that was it 😆

We're going out to a local Indian restaurant - even better its in walking distance, so ever so easy. I'm trying to get my work day finished while salivating over my potential dishes....

Looking forward to romantically rolling into bed tonight absolutely stuffed and all snoozy after an Irish coffee for dessert!
