Where is the absolute best beach in the U.K.?

and why is it the best?

Would like some ideas for where I’ve missed and where I must go. A bucket and spade list.
( Children grown and flown. Got some dogs. Camping good. Like quiet and big skies and peace)

I have a very soft spot and fond memories of Oxwich bay. sand dunes. BBQs and sleeping out. Shooting stars. Miles of empty sand.

Witterings, West Sussex or Margate.

Beaches in Northumberland are stunning my favourite is Bamburgh and Embleton.

Peckhaminn · 08/02/2023 21:29

West wittering. So lucky I live so close.

TotteringByGenteely · 08/02/2023 21:30

Beaches in Northumberland and The Outer Hebrides.

Randomuser9876 · 08/02/2023 21:31

Cattersty sands or Hunamby gap are the best in Yorkshire.

Just don't tell anyone else.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 08/02/2023 21:31

Ross Sands (Northumberland) and Kiloran Bay (Colonsay, Inner Hebrides)

pktechgirl · 08/02/2023 21:31

Saltburn

averylongtimeago · 08/02/2023 21:31

Fidden Farm, Isle of Mull. Absolute perfection- and because of the constant sea breeze , no midges!

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 08/02/2023 21:32

Tynemouth and Saltburn

Rhosilli

chocolateisavegetable · 08/02/2023 21:33

West Wittering or the beaches of Pembrokeshire

Riverlee · 08/02/2023 21:34

Sand or stones?

You could do a tour of Kent -

sandy - Camber sands, Joss bay, Margate, Dymchurch etc - all have very different vibes

stone - Whistable, etc

Badbudgeter · 08/02/2023 21:34

Harris on the outer Hebrides, so beautiful, I wild camped there but there is a proper campsite if you want.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/02/2023 21:35

Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris is meant to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It's on my bucket list.

The Northumberland coast is dreadful, yiu don't want to waste your time going there, especially not Low Newton

napody · 08/02/2023 21:37

Mull, Harris, Barra or Northumberland for beauty.

But they're all feckin cold!
So Gower, Pembrokeshire or lamorna in Cornwall.

gldd · 08/02/2023 21:39

Great shout Ethelfromnumber73 for Ross Sands. Lovely walk in, Holy Island and Lindisfarne to the left, Bamburgh Castle to the right, empty white sand for miles. Even better than Bamburgh (which in itself is fabulous).

But there's one that's even better: Sandwood Bay, Sutherland. Breathtaking

Justonedayatatime11 · 08/02/2023 21:39

Holkham

BathNotBath · 08/02/2023 21:39

Bamburgh is top of my list. Was almost there a few years back but family emergency called me back. Also Uhtred.

sand looks best but I really do prefer stones.

Traigh Mhòr on the Isle of Lewis. Huge, beautiful, perfect sand, hardly any people.

Perenporth - my absolute happy place
