Where is the absolute best beach in the U.K.?

BathNotBath · 08/02/2023 21:26

and why is it the best?

Would like some ideas for where I’ve missed and where I must go. A bucket and spade list.
( Children grown and flown. Got some dogs. Camping good. Like quiet and big skies and peace)

I have a very soft spot and fond memories of Oxwich bay. sand dunes. BBQs and sleeping out. Shooting stars. Miles of empty sand.

Kynance Cove (as you like stone beaches) but it's not a beach per se. You'll also get the warm weather in the Summer which you probably won't get for the Northern beaches.

Tamarindtree · 08/02/2023 22:08

Whiteford Sands.

faffadoodledo · 08/02/2023 22:08

Kynance was sand last time I looked, when the tide was low. It's also become a victim of its own Instagram success in the summer. Lately the NT have been turning drivers away when the car park gets full in the holiday months.

I also like Robin Hoods Bay

The Gower peninsula is horrible. It's like Blackpool on a bad day. Honest. Don't go.

Have to disagree with this, I'm also really confused at the comparison to Blackpool when there's hardly anything next to the majority of Gower beaches other than the odd pub or shop 🤔 obviously gets busy through the summer but the majority of beaches/ seaside areas do.

Three Cliffs is my favourite, does get busy peak summer but it's beautiful.

Not the places we’ve been going to for years - Caswell Bay is my absolute favourite.

Shhhhhh. It's horrible. No one should ever go there apart from me. 😁

weegiemum · 08/02/2023 22:10

Any of the Harris beaches.

I lived there for 10 years and we still have a house there (we rent it out when we're not there ourselves). It has never got any less beautiful in the 25 years since we first moved there.

Saltburn has an amazing beach and a lovely pier. One of the most under rated places in the country.

My aunt lives there, and I remember James Arthur whinging on about his sad upbringing there and I just thought he was a spoiled cock. It's lovely!

My favourite minor beach is Levenswick, Shetland.

Dawlish Warren

emmathedilemma · 08/02/2023 22:12

you really need to be in NW Scotland or on an island!

Ipadannie · 08/02/2023 22:12

Luskentyre. Findhorn. Dunnet Bay.

faffadoodledo · 08/02/2023 22:13

Ooo @weegiemum you lucky duck! Harris is honestly one of the most beautiful places on this earth

Holkham in Norfolk is beautiful, but the absolute best I’ve visited is Calgary on the Isle of Mull and there was one that resembled the Maldives on Iona. I think Scotland has the best.

Yes Calgary Isle of Mull. Wow that white sand - stunning 😍

BethDuttonsTwin · 08/02/2023 22:14

Barmouth. Because it’s massive and never feels crowded. Lovely scenery and the best fish and chips ever, five minutes walk from the beach.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 08/02/2023 22:14

Uig Sands, Isle of Lewis. It’s huge, hardly anyone on it and simply beautiful…

scotstarstrikestwo · 08/02/2023 22:15

St Ninians in Shetland. Beautiful tombola beach

TinaYouFatLard · 08/02/2023 22:15

I have a feeling @Alldrelaxzz may be being a little disingenuous 😂

On that note, Lllangennith is probably the most beautiful beach I’ve seen in the U.K.

HopelesslyOptimistic · 08/02/2023 22:16

Oh another one Mewslade Gower.

Eskimokid · 08/02/2023 22:17

Whitesands in Pembrokeshire, Caswell, Rhossili.

Bamburgh is lovely too.

exLtEveDallas · 08/02/2023 22:18

I love Newquay - Great Western and Fistral Beaches.
Also St Ives Carbis Bay and Holyhead Treaddur Bay and Porthole Dafarch.

Trudij123 · 08/02/2023 22:19

Any of them in Cornwall. Special mentions for Porth Curno and Pedn Voudner as well as Kynance Cove on the south and Perranporth, Holywell and Crantock on the north coast. So so many though and mostly dog friendly.

The Gower peninsula is horrible. It's like Blackpool on a bad day. Honest. Don't go.

Really? How do you work that one out? Gower is a large area with many beaches and none with shops selling kiss me quick hats, bingo, a fairground or amusement park and no tower.

Pendower Beach in Cornwall. Stayed at the hotel there in the late 70s when I was a kid. It was magical. Hotel was right on the beach. One evening we spent watching whales in the bay. Returned mid 2000s, hotel still there but dont think it is open anymore
