Where is the absolute best beach in the U.K.?

and why is it the best?

Would like some ideas for where I’ve missed and where I must go. A bucket and spade list.
( Children grown and flown. Got some dogs. Camping good. Like quiet and big skies and peace)

I have a very soft spot and fond memories of Oxwich bay. sand dunes. BBQs and sleeping out. Shooting stars. Miles of empty sand.

My favourites are Sandbanks, Southwold, Woolacombe, Croyde, Bude, Crantock, and Porthminster or Porthmeor at St Ives.

My perfect beach has to have plenty of sand, little coves, a stream to dam, rock pools and decent waves. It also needs never to get too crowded and to have loos. Finally, it has to face west so you can watch the sun go down over the sea.

Sandymouth in North Cornwall ticks all the boxes.

The Gower peninsula is horrible. It's like Blackpool on a bad day. Honest. Don't go.

Are you sure you didn't go to Barry?

Brancaster Beach is our family happy place

Downhill and Murlough in Northern Ireland. Get the ferry to Larne.

Another vote for Rhossilli. But agree with others, stay away from the Gower you won’t enjoy it 😂

OldFan · 08/02/2023 22:25

It's maybe a weird one but I like the rock bit at the start of Trebarwith Strand. Great for a paddle and looks really dramatic.

Have to disagree with this, I'm also really confused at the comparison to Blackpool when there's hardly anything next to the majority of Gower beaches other than the odd pub or shop 🤔 obviously gets busy through the summer but the majority of beaches/ seaside areas do.

Three Cliffs is my favourite, does get busy peak summer but it's beautiful.

The pp was being sarcastic to try to put people off from going

Blue Point, Isle of Man - small dunes to camp in, nice fine sand, pebbles, beach grass, views of the Mull of Galloway, usually deserted. Nothing nearby to lure visitors in

Canthave2manycats · 08/02/2023 22:27

Portrush in North Antrim - in fact the whole coastline is spectacular.

Fundays12 · 08/02/2023 22:27

The Hebrides and the far north of Scotland.

Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire. 10 minute walk across the cliffs from the car park. Totally peaceful and stunningly beautiful.

An amazing beach, went there on a geography field trip and have never forgotten it.

Oh another one Mewslade Gower.

I love this beach, I remember the first time we found it, it was like a magical discovery clambering down a track, over and under rocks and then out onto this beautiful beach. Best at low tide.

EpicChaos · 08/02/2023 22:29

As others have said, anywhere in Northumberland but Seaton Carew has a great beach too, just don't try canoeing off to Panama :-/

Ruth98 · 08/02/2023 22:29

Northumbria (anywhere), the sand dunes around Robin Hoods Bay / Whitby are beautiful and North Norfolk (Holkham Bay).

St Andrews and the beach of Tentsmuir Forest. Both in Fife.

This isn't too far from me, again it's best at low tide so you can enjoy the beautiful sand. A lovely walk around East Head too.

Hayling Island is also lovely at low tide when you can walk right out in to the sand banks, but unfortunately has had lots of issues with sewage 🤢 (thanks Southern Water) and also they've closed most of the car park at one end.

longcoffeebreak · 08/02/2023 22:30

Jersey has an embarrassment of beaches

UnctuousUnicorns · 08/02/2023 22:31

Oh, come on, it was obvious Alldrelaxzz was trying to put people off so she could keep the GP beaches all to hergreedyself! 😅
