Where is the absolute best beach in the U.K.?

and why is it the best?

Would like some ideas for where I’ve missed and where I must go. A bucket and spade list.
( Children grown and flown. Got some dogs. Camping good. Like quiet and big skies and peace)

I have a very soft spot and fond memories of Oxwich bay. sand dunes. BBQs and sleeping out. Shooting stars. Miles of empty sand.

West Wittering is probably my fave.

Dingieshowe on Orkney... you can sometimes even take your coat off.

Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire. 10 minute walk across the cliffs from the car park. Totally peaceful and stunningly beautiful.

Notreallyawaitress · 08/02/2023 21:52

Newborough in Anglesey or any of the beautiful beaches on the Isles of Scilly.

Margrethe · 08/02/2023 21:52

Luskantyre
Uig Sands
Holkham
Bamburgh
Dustanburgh
Kynance Cove

mafsfan · 08/02/2023 21:52

Aberdovey ❤️

Shitfather · 08/02/2023 21:53

Holkham in Norfolk is beautiful, but the absolute best I’ve visited is Calgary on the Isle of Mull and there was one that resembled the Maldives on Iona. I think Scotland has the best.

themuminator · 08/02/2023 21:53

Sanna beach Ardnamurchan. I've never been anywhere so beautiful.

Shh, don't tell everyone!

Chocolation · 08/02/2023 21:54

I love Runswick Bay in North Yorkshire. It’s not huge but it’s set in a beautiful cove. Nice mix of sandy beach and rock pools

Alldrelaxzz · 08/02/2023 21:54

The Gower peninsula is horrible. It's like Blackpool on a bad day. Honest. Don't go.

MTIH · 08/02/2023 21:55

St Martins, Isles of Scilly.

Elie, Scotland

Pharos · 08/02/2023 21:55

If you like stones it has to be Chesil Beach

Not the places we’ve been going to for years - Caswell Bay is my absolute favourite.

JobSeekingMissile · 08/02/2023 21:56

Definitely Gower. Multiple amazing and dog friendly beaches. Rhosili Bay is out of this world, better access from Llangennith, and there is a dog friendly pub in Llangennith too (with rooms) as well as dog friendly self catering accommodation in the village.
Don't go peak season though as Gower is very busy in the holidays!

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 08/02/2023 21:57

Isles of Scilly.

Kitkatandcoffee · 08/02/2023 21:57

Achmelvich beach.

Airupnonsense · 08/02/2023 21:57

I love st ives and st martins on the isle of scilly. Would love to visit some of the Scotland beaches, Luskentyre etc but it’s such a trek up!!

Eddielizzard · 08/02/2023 21:57

I second Runswick bay. Best kept secret ever.

OhBollocks23 · 08/02/2023 21:59

Bamburgh. And not a beach as such, but the walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle is sublime. Does something special to my miserable, hardened soul.

FurAndFeathers · 08/02/2023 22:03

seilebost beach Isle of Harris. Nothing on the mainland comes close to the Western isles with the possible exception of sand wood bay
its not just the glorious fine sand, it’s the west facing for sunsets and the towering mountains around.

and yes I’ve been to Bamburgh etc

Teaandtoast3 · 08/02/2023 22:04

Far too many for different reasons I think. No one’s said it so I’ll add that I like the beaches at St Ives

hydroxyapatite · 08/02/2023 22:05

Marloes sands, Pembrokeshire

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 08/02/2023 22:05

Budleigh Salterton in Devon also great ot you like stones!
I also love Three Cliffs Bay
Newgale in Pembrokshire.
