The same risk of falling down stairs 🙄

I love Chris Whitty trying to "manage" bojo. You can tell he wants to say "that article is bollocks"

itsgettingweird · 03/03/2023 07:29

I heard that but Jeremy Corbyn sent birthday cake into Downing Street disguised as a pot plant which then only revealed itself as a cake when Boris watered it, causing him to have to have a party.

🤣🤣

I'm just listening to IO on BBC breakfast news. Good grief, her and little Matty Hancock do not get on. That much is clear. He's getting a big taste of medicine isn't he... never trust the likes of IO.

In case anyone wants to read the latest DT article, I have archived it to give access, as it's behind a paywall. The whatsapps are pretty shocking.

archive.ph/5aoRY

I have to say it sickens me to read some of the horrible whatsapps between them all. Especially Simon Case (who I cannot stand) mocking those in quarantine hotels, treating it like a huge joke. I know someone who spent 10days in one, she had no option, she'd been abroad to see a dying relative.

I honestly think the likes of Hancock was just power hungry, he loved those daily press conferences, he got off on the power.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 03/03/2023 08:07

I'm genuinely surprised to see that Hancock understood people not being able to meet up outside pushed socialising indoors. That's more than I thought him capable of at the time.

This joy in people's suffering is so damaging for the Tories though.

DuncinToffee · 03/03/2023 09:06

Thanks for that link Roussette, I have to find some time later to read it all.

Just read this thread ShockAngry

Buried in WhatsApp conversations between then-prime minister Boris Johnson, his scientific advisers and Dominic Cummings, is an exchange which is arguably even more worrying than this headline-grabbing stories.
Johnson's fundamental maths mistake...

That is scary Duncin. Such basics. No wonder the Govt were flip flopping all over the place. Which they were, I remember distinctly.

L1ttledrummergirl · 03/03/2023 09:36

Those WhatsApp messages seem to have some good thinking about their concerns and worries but there is a definite undertone of arsery and twattism. They didn't have a clue, but we knew that already.

This is why people shouldn't use WhatsApp for work.

borntobequiet · 03/03/2023 09:44

It’s shocking, but it will pass many people (and much of the media) by because they don’t understand basic maths either.
Look at the way inflation falling is routinely mistaken for prices falling (though I see the BBC has recently started including an explanation when reporting on inflation).

Matt Hancock appears to have been saying that he thought the police should be used much more, presumably to do things like stopping people groping their mistresses in offices and having birthday parties and calling it work?

We have known for a long time what the current crop of Tories are like. What absolutely staggers me that anyone would think it appropriate to have work conversations on Whatsapp and not on the work messaging systems. Deeply inappropriate.

Notonthestairs · 03/03/2023 10:01

It does make you think how a different cabinet might have approached things - I dont see the likes of Ken Clarke, Hague, Gauke, Grieve etc behaving in a similar fashion towards the electorate.
I suspect they had a better grasp of issues and maths!

As the twitter comments point out percentages and fractions are year 7 maths - many 11 year olds would be able to explain the difference, I know mine can.

the80sweregreat · 03/03/2023 10:21

The police didn't stop the parties did they. Stood outside for most of those carry ons

I think they had to have the parties indoors, because one was banned from exercising outside.

the80sweregreat · 03/03/2023 10:30

The police must have heard the one that was outside when the little boys swing was broken !
Anyway , a few people were fined over lockdown, but the police couldn't be everywhere!
Not enough for every road.

Notonthestairs · 03/03/2023 10:58

👀

NEW: Understand the privileges committee COULD publish evidence it has received about Downing Street parties as soon as this morning. The timetable has been under discussion

The lack of police is because but Jeremy Corbyn wants to defund them.

Why aren’t we all delighted that they used WhatsApp so extensively? I know I am, it’s an absolute joy to see them telling us themselves exactly how fucking appalling they are. I haven’t enjoyed myself so much since Truss resigned.

BREAKING:

Breaches of coronavirus guidance would have been 'obvious' to Boris Johnson at several events he attended, privileges committee says

It has highlighted several events where Johnson was present without social distancing and published pictures

just reading through the Twitter thread, it seems very 'trumpy' the way they had to put everything into simple terms so that Johnson could understand, but he still held onto what he wanted to be true rather than what was true.
The forelock tugging public see Johnson as intellectual because of his confidence and his upper class accent but that's just a veneer that he uses to fool people.
