No idea why I find this so funny but I do Grin

EXCL: Sue Gray has been appointed chief of staff to Labour leader Keir Starmer.

As a senior civil servant, the job offer will be subject to ACOBA process before formal confirmation.

Major coup for the Labour leader and part of an effort to prove the party is preparing for govt.

FOR THE FIRST TIME, Johnson admits (albeit mumbled) the Protocol was his fault. But in this section of his speech, he tries a remarkable bait-and-switch. Apparently, he was forced into a bad deal by "the surrender act" (HOW, with a majority of 60?), and the EU misled him.

Ah so we are now at the "my perfect Brexit has been ruined by other people" stage.
80 seat majority and still a victim.

tobee · 02/03/2023 15:48

On the electoral calculus thing can you put in a constituency name rather than a postcode? Can't see it.

Still laughing that MH thought IO could be trusted. Serves him right

And she wasn't even ashamed of it on radio 4 this morning!

And here we have it, @BorisJohnson’s role in the great #HerdImmunity scandal which I first reported on for @BylineTimes in March 2020 (soon after the @Peston) article. Often denied, now confirmed. Bad science driven by the Spectator cost lives

The same risk of falling down stairs 🙄

Yes it asks for a postcode but I think if you click on the interactive election maps and then find your particular constituency and click on that it shows 2019 results AND current forecasts.

Cue Boris fans crying 'witch hunt' whilst conveniently forgetting they lauded her as a model of fairness and impartiality

It does. I had to do it to make it work. I was rewarded by being told we have a 73% chance of turning red. This is Major’s old constituency which used to be the safest Tory seat in the country. Anyone giving cartwheel lessons to old biddies?

I kind of respect the bare faced cheek of anyone who claims the Tories didn't get off phenomenally lightly there, though.

Conservative MPs seem largely furious:
^^
@NadineDorries - "The Gray report was a stitch up"
^^
@cmackinlay - "Does this smell right?"
^^
@JamesDuddridge - "that explains a lot. We can now see which Party was investigated #partygate."

Tory MPs are clearly not bright enough to realise that for most of the public any mention of parties and cake just sets us all off remembering how awful Boris is and his lies. It is never going to reflect well on the Tories.
Which is why I came to the conclusion that the likes of Janine who kept defending Boris must have been Labour plants.

Notonthestairs · 02/03/2023 17:15

Partygate didn't bring Johnson down.

Johnson lying to his own MPs for months and then sending them out to troubleshoot on his behalf only to be shot down (sometimes mid interview!) is what brought Johnson down.

I thought Sue Grey ducked the ABBA party for no good reason and her report had been filleted.

Yes the EU did mislead him. They agree the protocol and the followed it. How was he supposed to know that they'd follow the laws they signed up to? Who even does that?

To be fair, it is a massive betrayal. But then what sort muppet would trust IO in the first place.

I think you are right, especially now partygate has been exposed as a labour plot Grin🍿

Hahaha, they are all throwing a right old strop.

Wonder if we will have any visitors to this thread spaffing on about Keir's beer, whitewash etc.

tobee · 02/03/2023 17:58

Thanks @Notonthestairs !

IClaudine · 02/03/2023 18:02

Who made the decision to appoint Gray to lead the partygate investigation? Was it Starmer. Or maybe Corbyn?

I reckon a few Tory MPs might expire from pure spite and anger, resulting in some by-elections. Top trolling from Starmer and Gray. 🤣🤣🤣

The thing that we all have to remember is that in Starmer promoting such an apparently competent women as we were led to believe Gray was when she was appointed to lead the Partygate investigation, it just further demonstrates that Starmer does not know what a woman is and what they are for.

tobee · 02/03/2023 18:05

Obviously the first rule of journalism is you don't reveal your sources, confidentially etc but not really feeling sympathetic towards MH.

Yes and most people i know felt the Tories got off extremely lightly from SG report.

It is theoretically possible I suppose that Keir Starmer is that much of a fiendish genius - a politician Moriarty - but somehow I doubt it

I heard that but Jeremy Corbyn sent birthday cake into Downing Street disguised as a pot plant which then only revealed itself as a cake when Boris watered it, causing him to have to have a party.
