The Aegean Sea has high standards

They were Pret tomatoes, picked out of a sandwich apparently. Very low class.

Piggywaspushed · 10/02/2023 18:49

Got to love the vox pop constituent on local news just now, who said:

'Realistically, it would have been best if Nadine had told her constituents first, rather than both the viewers of Talk TV'

Chapeau.

Last night's events in Knowsley is what happens when politicians spout their rhetoric of hate and division Angry

Lonelycrab · 11/02/2023 11:16

Saddened but not surprised Duncin. This is where all the hateful rhetoric by the govt and (some parts of) the press leads toSad

Zonder · 11/02/2023 11:20

I hadn't heard about Knowsley so I had a look. I'm sickened that this has happened here. Awful.

Notonthestairs · 11/02/2023 11:52

Just reading the coverage in the Times - they've tiptoed around who was involved.
Comment section is full of mistruths and pretty bizarre hatred of RNLI.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2023 10:33

If anyone ahs a hard copy oft today's Times, I'm rather intrigued by the huge white space and terrible layout of the story about the hotel. Methinks there was a sudden change of headline... changed the editorial angle?

Notonthestairs · 12/02/2023 11:11

I only have online access - the Knowsley story doesn't feature at all.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2023 11:15

Interesting.

Notonthestairs · 12/02/2023 11:45

It is interesting - there's no trace online.

Difficult to print criticisms of Prevent focusing too much on right wing violence & also print stories about right wing violence I suppose.

Looks like Richard Sharp will have to go. I suppose his appointment is just the top of the iceberg - we've no idea how many other Johnson facilitators have been given plum jobs elsewhere.

NEW 🚨 Richard Sharp damaged faith in the BBC by “serious” failure to reveal role in Boris Johnson loan of up to £800k

That is extraordinary verdict of DCMS select committee of MPs who had approved his appointment

Today they say: we didn’t have the facts

Sounds like some racist hysteria whipped up online to be honest

Notonthestairs · 12/02/2023 12:12

Which is exactly why Prevent has to focus (in part) on those groups.

Yes agree. I was horrified by news reports saying about the redirection of prevent back to Islamist terrorism, given the rise in far right and incel violence.

It's almost like white men get free pass to be violent 😕

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2023 13:06

The MN Right Wing have come out to play on two separate threads today, both of which ask whether MN/ the UK has become perilously right wing. They are having such lovely fun. It's like a day trip.

Has the Home Secretary been refered to the Prevent programme yet?

She should be on a tag and very closely monitored 👀

itsgettingweird · 12/02/2023 13:56

No sadly she's swanning around town doing her photo opportunities whilst half her FB page is full of people leaving for reform because apparently she isn't right wing enough 😳

read a couple of pages of that thread before deciding it was too vomit inducing.

mibbelucieachwell · 12/02/2023 14:59

@Notonthestairs Yes! How is it that all the heat is on Richard Sharp and none of it on the people who appointed him Hmm

In think you are being terribly unfair. How was Boris supposed to know that appointing someone who is giving him money is not allowed. The poor Boris doesn't even know when he is at his own birthday party.

What interests me in those threads is that nobody seems to acknowledge that we've had 13 years of Conservative government. The state of the country (good and bad) isn't due to woke or left leaning policies - it's down to the Government they keep voting for.

mibbelucieachwell · 12/02/2023 16:21

@jgw1 You make a fair point. Now I feel bad for being so judgmental of Mr Johnson who was after all, very busy having to deal with fickle ethics advisors flouncing off in a huff over nothing.

A man's got to eat, its tiring work looking after the pot plants all day.

I doubt he can even tend to them properly!
