Just woke up to this news this morning. It's just so incredibly heartbreaking for all involved. Seems to be happening so much more than ever these days

17 attacks since beginning of 2020 whilst awful are hardly a large number. The poster is right that when you compare that with the number of dogs in the UK it is a very small number.

Fireworks probably injure more people than dogs even if they do not usually cause deaths and nothing is done about them

I don't think it is appropriate to say 17 people killed by dogs is a small number. One person, one child, suffering the horror of being savaged to death by a dog is one too many. I can't imagine the horror of the last moments of that child's life and I can't imagine how parents cope with that.

But it is a much smaller number than people killed in other ways - murdered by a relative, hit by a car etc.

I can't imagine how the parents cope either but, at the end of the day, they brought to the dog into the house and so are responsible for the child's death

It is totally avoidable though. We aren't going to do away with road traffic, catch all murderers before they commit murder but we could say no pet dogs or stricter rules on who can own a dog, what dogs are appropriate etc.

This child was killed in her own home but other children are killed by dogs that aren't their family pet. All children should have a right to be protected.

Another child attacked by a dog in London whilst at bus stop- police have restrained it, it looks to be a Staffy

Doesn't look like a staffy. It looks like an American Bully. Bloody idiot thugs and these American Bully dogs. A combination of idiots and ignorance on the part of the fearful will lead to more dogs being added to the list of dogs banned under BSL. Legislation which hasn't worked. The proof of this is seen now with the introduction of these American Bully dogs. They were bred from pitbulls originally. The idiots who are breeding these dogs will simply turn their attention to breeding other large powerful breeds to escape the legislation.

Meanwhile bull breed dogs include Pugs, Boston terriers, British Bulldog, English bull terrier and boxers.........you want them banned? and for what good reason?

ThisGirlNever · 06/02/2023 23:04

Pugs are inbred with horrendous health issues.
British bulldogs are inbred with horrendous health issues.
Boxers are another thug breed.
English bill terriers are inbred with horrendous health issues.
Boston terriers are probably ok, but if they're the only thing preventing a full ban of bull breeds, I'm happy to ban them too.

13 million dogs in the UK... 1 in 3 house holds have a dog.
How many fatal attacks compared to that? Get a grip!

8000 hospital admissions a year as a result of dog attacks

What is 8000 % from 13 million?

That isn't even remotely a SBT

Unfortunately for the SBT breed they are constantly misidentified which has been devastating for the breed since the days of the DDA

These dogs touted off as SBT are NOT SBT, they are SBT cross breeds and should be identified as bull breed mongrels.

A true SBT are only a max of 16" tall and weigh 17kg for a male, bitched are even smaller.

They are no bigger in size than the height of a cocker spaniel.

Misidentification of the breed has been devastating over the years for them

People need to be educated on what a SBT is , starting with rescue Center who label anything with a slight bull breed face as a SBT.

It's not it's a bull breed mix.

it is 8000 people seriously hurt, maybe scarred and traumatised that could have been avoided. The percentage is irrelevant!
