Lost hamster !

last night we cleaned him out and my daughter didn’t close the lid and he must of escaped over night, we’ve checked everywhere no doors were left open. I’ve literally searched every room cupboard? Any tips

He'll not be far away. He'll come out when it's dark and quiet to look for food. Leave food out and be ready to trap/ pounce.

Good luck finding the hamster I lost some gerbils years ago after 3 or 4 hrs no sign i was just breaking the news to my son and he pointed to the stairs and said there they are !

Ours was under a sofa!! Put some food out in his cage on the floor

Ours was IN the sofa. The fucker had chewed a tiny hole in the material underneath and climbed into it. The only way to get her out was to tip the sofa up sideways so she fell to the bottom, then cut the material the other end and tip the sofa slowly onto the opposite end so she fell out the hole. The lounge looked like a warzone by the time she was safely back in her cage.

If you have hardwood floors you can put flour down and see his footprint where his been Next might lay In waiting with food

Thanks everyone for the tips i appreciate it, once my daughter goes to sleep there’s only me in the house so Il try said suggestions and sit with a soft light on it’s my excuse to read a book in peace

One of ours escaped and made her way upstairs. Found her playing in my mum's handbag in her bedroom.

Another made his way onto the sofa and just lay there, head on cushion, until I found him!

We had one years ago that was an escape artist, I always found her under the fridge so I'd leave a trail of food to a pile in the middle of the room then grab her when she was stuffing her cheeks

(Anyone else remember the troll who said that her hamster in the kitchen and then said she found hair and bones in the veg stew that was simmering? I was only thinking about that this morning! She admitted it was bolocks after a very long thread).

Our hamster was always escaping, and I caught it every time in a humane mouse trap with some food in it.

I found mine under the fridge
Heard rustling, stood on a chair panicking it was a mouse and he popped out
Didn't even know he had got out!

I agree with everyone else, set a trap for tonight. Big pan he cant climb out of, food in bottom, ramp up.

Mine was white and it went behind the electric fireplace into the chimney breast. She came out black... Grin

No they vantage get the fridge. But the casing is usually open at the back and they can get in there.

Mine wandered in the bathroom when I was having a middle of the night wee - I hadn't even realised he had escaped so I was a bit freaked out at first.

Definitely can climb stairs.

Ok, since someone mentioned the stew, I will say what happened to a friends hamster.

It managed to escape and she turned the house upside down looking for it.

About 4 days later, she turned on the oven to cook her dinner and whilst it was preheating, she could smell cooking and then burning.

Yep, poor hammy had gotten into the oven and she had cooked it.

She never got another hamster after that. Bit too traumatised

I once had an escapee. Thought had lost him for good. 4 days later I was dying in the lounge having lunch watching tv. Put plate down on floor with a bit of sandwich on it, next thing saw the cheeky sod legging it across the lounge with my leftover sandwich!! Did catch him though. Threw the sandwich away 😆
