last night we cleaned him out and my daughter didn’t close the lid and he must of escaped over night, we’ve checked everywhere no doors were left open. I’ve literally searched every room cupboard? Any tips

Ours was missing about 3 days iirc

How long should I give before I presume the worst?

Don’t worry at all. They are survivors and will scavenge anything for food. He will turn up sooner rather than later

Bowbellsx · 21/01/2023 18:19

il set up camp tonight in the quiet and listen around and off course leave water and food

Three days after the escape it turned up in the bath, stuck unable to get out.

Deebeedore · 21/01/2023 18:19

Ours escaped without us realising, I was sat in the living room drinking a cup of coffee at about 6 am when it ran into the room, I was very quiet and still, thought it was a mouse! Maybe try that in the morning and just have a lamp on for light so it's not too bright

ToooOldForThis · 21/01/2023 18:19

I came on to say about the bucket trick. Build stairs up to it with books! Trail of food. Good luck!!

When my hamster did a bunk, it turned up in the cereal cupboard.

BiteyShark · 21/01/2023 18:21

Ours was behind the tumble dryer once and another time I did set up camp for the evening and she came out about 11pm, don’t give up hope yet!!

KnittedCardi · 21/01/2023 18:25

We lost one once for a week or so. Found in my brother's chest if drawers. Had made a nest from chewed socks, and precious photos. My brother was NOT pleased 🤣

steppingcarefully · 21/01/2023 18:28

I had one go missing for 3 weeks when I was a child. Turned up in the bathroom and looked like she had been under the floorboards or somewhere similar as she had black paws and nose.

Christmascracker0 · 21/01/2023 18:28

Put flour or cornstarch around his food bowl so you can see if he’s come out to have a snack in the night!

Hellocatshome · 21/01/2023 18:32

Can you borrow a dog? Our dog found our missing hamster and has since been recruited to find my friends missing hamster as well.

MonkeyMindAllOverAround · 21/01/2023 18:32

I know of one who went into a washer, and another one who was found walking with her groceries from the kitchen to a nest she had built under a bed… 3 months after vanishing!

Cantbelievethis1 · 21/01/2023 18:34

Ours was in a kitchen drawer, 2 days after he went missing opened it and he was curled up all cosey in our tea towel drawer.

Soubriquet · 21/01/2023 18:35

I just remembered a story a friend told me about her hamster….I’ll Urm…tell you when you’ve found yours

Walterwhiteswifey · 21/01/2023 18:41

You will hear it pottering about in the early hours when it's quiet! As others have said leave food in a room with doors closed. It will get thirsty and hungry so will search for food soon enough. This is assuming it's a Syrian hamster? If it's a Russian/Chinese hamster they can squeeze through the tiniest of gaps! So it could be anywhere.

One of ours escaped and ended up NEXT DOOR! It sauntered across their lounge floor while they were watching tv one night 😂 True story!

Ohhh that is too cute and made me smile!

Set up the bucket rap where you think it is. Also, sprinkle some of his favourite bits from his food in each room. You'll soon find out which room he's in. Then set up the bucket trap in there. Mine chewed its way into the inside of the settee and set up home in there! Little blighter. I loved her so much. 🐹❤

IwishIwasSupermum · 21/01/2023 18:45

Found ours in one of DDs clothes drawers, we were tidying her room out, I’d picked up a sweatshirt which had holes in, then another and another, couldn’t work out why all her clothes were ruined, then realised hamster wasn’t in his cage, he was in the drawer, they can do an awful lots of damage in a short space of time…..

quietnightmare · 21/01/2023 18:47

Chocolate

Bowbellsx · 21/01/2023 18:48

Will he be able to smell the food?

OP posts:
Walterwhiteswifey · 21/01/2023 18:50

Yes but normal kibble may not entice him. Treats or fresh veg will. Hopefully!
