Actors who seem to play themselves in movies?

Are there any actors who always seem to play themselves in movies? I don't necessarily mean that they aren't talented just that for one reason or another its hard to disassociate the actor from the role?

I have a hard time seeing George Clooney as anyone besides GC.

Jennifer Coolidge. Plays similar characters and seems just like them in interviews

Timothee Chalamet always seems to be Timothee Chalamet to me

I feel a bit like that with Olivia Coleman even though she’s highly rated.

Yes I was thinking this when I heard an interview with her after she won an award!

Bill Nighy.

Hugh Grant, Anne Hathaway and Kiera Knightley. Always play Hugh Grant, Anne Hathaway and Kiera Knightley.

Nimo12 · 20/01/2023 19:15

Jason Statham definitely always just plays every character as though they are the same, so I assume he just plays them all as himself

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2023 19:16

Olivia Colman is definitely not in this bracket. She's very nuanced in what she does.

Nicholas Cage however ...

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 20/01/2023 19:17

Jeff Goldblum.

Andanotherone01 · 20/01/2023 19:17

Bill Nighy.

Came here to say this

I also have to add Jack Nicholson and also Al Pacino once he really got started on the scenery chewing. He was so incredible in Dog Day Afternoon and The Godfather and Godfather 2 before he turned into a parody of himself. It's painful to remember how good he can be.

Gerard Butler. Same man dumped in different situations and ages

Tamarindtree · 20/01/2023 19:19

Aniston.

DewinDwl · 20/01/2023 19:20

Yy to Jack Nicholson
Tom Cruise
Julia Roberts

Sunbird24 · 20/01/2023 19:21

Jim Carrey. Sometimes he’s Jim Carrey pretending to be someone else (eg the Grinch, Lemony Snicket’s Count Olaf and then the various people CO pretends to be) but he’s still Jim Carrey to me

PaperwhiteTheGhost · 20/01/2023 19:21

Paul Rudd

Pearfacebanana · 20/01/2023 19:21

Sean Bean.

I agree apart from when she played Queen Anne.

PrescriptionOnlyMedicine · 20/01/2023 19:21

Ryan Reynolds (who I love) only seems to have one character.
