How often do your kids shower?

Just wondering after a conversation with my eldest, I used to have a bath twice a week (born in early 80s) and my two 9&10 shower or bath every other day, sometimes go an extra day if we've got a lot on but certainly more regular than I did. How often do yours get clean?

Probably 3 or 4 times a week. Aged 8 and 3.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 19/01/2023 11:24

Every other day unless they are really sweaty or dirty.

Same as me and DP

Lordofthebutterfloofs · 19/01/2023 11:26

At the minute 3/4 times a week. A wash on other days.

As they get older it will need to be daily otherwise yuk.

Daily, have done since they started school.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 19/01/2023 11:31

Bath or shower every day

Whole · 19/01/2023 11:31

Mine everyday before bed. Fresh Pjs, undergarments everyday.

Is it normal or extra ?

StollenAway · 19/01/2023 11:32

Every day usually, it's just part of the routine. Ages 4, 6 and 9. The only time in my life (that I can remember) when I haven't showered/bathed daily was when I was seriously depressed.

Noonesperfect · 19/01/2023 11:34

Son teenager, twice a day and spends ages. Also spends ages cleaning his teeth. Daughter also teenager, autistic hates the feeling of water on her body so much less.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 19/01/2023 11:34

Never. He hates it. Instead, he has bath every night, since he was a baby, now a teen.

mightymam · 19/01/2023 11:34

Twice a week-twin preschoolers here- we have family history of severe eczema in the family and I don't want to dry their skin out unnecessarily. They have daily bottom washes so aren't filthy. In fact, I wash their bottoms every time they use the toilet.

Are you a child?

ItsNotReallyChaos · 19/01/2023 11:37

DD (nearly 6) has a bath or shower twice a week as standard plus will have more if she's got particularly grubby or in the summer I like to wash the sunscreen off in the evening.

Mycatisasleep · 19/01/2023 11:37

Er.. awkward. Usually about once a week age 4. He hates it so even that's an achievement. If he gets really muddy or dirty though we do an extra one. There will be screaming.

Que the angry mob... 😳🤦‍♀️

How often do you bathe them?

my youngest has also got eczema and I have been washing her every other day and putting cream, but the exzema although better hasn’t gone away so wondering if I should wash her less.

thinkponk48 · 19/01/2023 11:39

Winter every other day. In the summer normally every day. They enjoy it though

IreneJones · 19/01/2023 11:39

They've always had a bath or shower daily.

euff · 19/01/2023 11:41

They don't need it every day but it's easier to keep that routine as things slip more when we don't.

Beginningless · 19/01/2023 11:44

Only once or twice a week for us, more in summer if totally minging.

Flowersonthewall123 · 19/01/2023 11:44

Daily it’s part of the bed time routine. Hoping it will drum in good habits ready for when we hit the teenage years.

HippeePrincess · 19/01/2023 11:45

Every other day, DS just getting to the age where he’s gonna need a shower every day. DD gets a hair wash every 4 days, it’s long and in much better condition now we wash it less.
At their Dads they rarely wash and if I send them Friday after having last had a wash on Thursday pm, they won’t have had a shower or bath by Sunday night return, and they do often smell by then.

TicTac80 · 19/01/2023 11:45

Teenage DC1 will shower everyday. Primary aged DC2 will shower 3-4 times a week at home, plus showers after her swimming lesson.

TrollMunter · 19/01/2023 11:46

Once a week or after muddy sport. Or if there’s been some kind of acute messy situation! Imagine it will increase as they get to teens

CPHB2021 · 19/01/2023 11:48

Daily, always. It's part of their bedtime routine. I also shower and wash my hair every day. DH, every other day. I am a bit hygiene obsessed though and can't relax in the evenings until I'm clean, fresh pjs etc.

CeeJay81 · 19/01/2023 11:48

dd8 every other day. ds13 has just started having one every morning, puberty hitting I guess.

mightymam · 19/01/2023 11:49

@LongStoryShorty - I don't bath them. It's a 5 minute shower with a shampoo and then they're out. No shower gels or anything else. I moisturise them with coconut oil and a thick cream like cetroban and then get them in their cotton pants/vests/pjs. I also have a humidifier running in their bedrooms year round to cut through any dryness in the air.

I've had nephews and Neice's admitted in hospitals with weeping, cracked, bleeding, infected skins, etc. and seeing them suffering has traumatised me. I don't use any flannels on my little ones, I ask them to wash their hands with an emollient wash before dinner/after the loo, wipe their faces clean using my hands and water and then dry them down with kitchen towels (less abrasive and germ-filled than towels) and that's it.
