How often do your kids shower?

Just wondering after a conversation with my eldest, I used to have a bath twice a week (born in early 80s) and my two 9&10 shower or bath every other day, sometimes go an extra day if we've got a lot on but certainly more regular than I did. How often do yours get clean?

Preteen - I insist on a proper soap-and-hot-water wash of one kind or another every day. I’d prefer them to have a daily bath or shower but they resist, so around 4 times a week, with a strip wash on the other days.

InvincibleInvisibility · 19/01/2023 12:17

8 and 11 year olds - daily shower.

Used to be evenings but since moving to a very hot humid country its mornings (so they smell ok at school) plus evenings if they've done sport.

Also after the beach or pool.

Children aged 8 and 11, shower or bath every day. Have done since about 6 weeks old. Once a week really isn't enough, IMO.

DS5 is bathed by me or his father 5 times a week depending on the day's activities, although it is very rare that his bloody father will actually do anything. Useless git. Laugh Out Loud. 😂The teenager DS17 is in a phase of either taking 45 minute long showers or refusing to shower for 6 days on the trot! I have found that encouragement does not work and instead it is more helpful to ring his Girl friend (20) and asking her to convince him! It's a hard life being a mum! Best of luck to the rest of you xx

Are you a child?

What an odd question

TeaCosyApplePie · 19/01/2023 12:22

Daily showers, both primary age. One core rule of the household- unless you are dying of flu, you get a wash, brush teeth and clean clothes every day.

SummerInSun · 19/01/2023 12:25

Daily, other than very occasionally missing a day if we are out late. Really don't understand people who don't teach their kids that you are supposed to wash daily. Apart from the fact that a warm bath or shower is a lovely way to either relax you at the end of the day or refresh you in the morning, teaching basic hygiene is super important and, yes, I do regard daily washing as basic hygiene. They get a wash every day.

Getting a wash doesn’t have to mean a shower though. I mean, I didn’t live in a house with a shower I could use until I was 27. When my Dc1 was a baby we didn’t have access to hot water in the house either.

Now we are lucky enough to have a house with a shower, one that we can all safely use with hot water and free of harassment/without putting ourselves in danger, my older ones shower maybe 5 days a week, but wash every day. My younger probably showers once a week, plus before and after swimming, but again, washes (or bathes) every day.

I’m assuming everyone saying it’s disgusting have lived their whole lives with free access to a safe, warm and private shower?

Lovetotravel123 · 19/01/2023 12:31

Daily bath or shower ever since he was a baby. It is just part of the bedtime routine.

SpinningOutWaitinForYa · 19/01/2023 12:31

3 times a week i would say

BelenaConhamHarter · 19/01/2023 12:33

Shower every morning - always has. Thankfully doesn't come in with me any more!

I was taught this growing up. I don't do it every day as an adult. 🤷🏻‍♀️

GetOffTheTableMabel · 19/01/2023 12:35

DD17 bath every night except for Sundays when she undertakes some incredibly lengthy hair washing routine with mask and serums and a lot of hot water!

BluIsTheColour · 19/01/2023 12:36

My 2 get bathed every night. They are 3 and 5. Occasionally we skip it if we have been out late etc but it's just part of our bedtime routine. We don't wash hair every night though a couple of times a week instead.

Suzi888 · 19/01/2023 12:40

Aged 6 bath every day. Hair washed every other.

motherofkevinnotperry · 19/01/2023 12:41

Teenager daily. 9 year old every other day but it's becoming daily as she gets older and more active.

Mariposista · 19/01/2023 12:42

Every morning. And one is a swimmer so on training days twice.

Waspsnbees · 19/01/2023 12:43

younger ones once, older ones twice.

DominoRules · 19/01/2023 12:45

Both DSs shower morning and evening - nearly 13 and 15, play a lot of sport and frankly both a bit stinky! They are good at being quick in shower though. Also found it’s helped DS1s spots, he was getting quite a few on his back but cleared up loads when he started showering before bed too

BethDuttonsTwin · 19/01/2023 12:46

Every day. We all do.

How often do you bathe them?

my youngest has also got eczema and I have been washing her every other day and putting cream, but the exzema although better hasn’t gone away so wondering if I should wash her less.

When my little one had excema I would just bathe him once a week. Bottom washing with a shower head mist days

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 19/01/2023 12:54

DS15 every morning before school, then maybe again on an evening if he's been out on his bike. DS11 three times a week, but no puberty yet, so expecting that to go up to daily when it happens. But! When I was a kid, we all had a bath once a week!! Sunday night was bath night. Surely that's not just me???

StaunchMomma · 19/01/2023 12:57

I try to stick to 2, Max 3, with washes in between, as more causes DS's eczema to flair up.

Phos · 19/01/2023 12:57

My 5 year old used to have a bath or shower every night as it was just part of her bedtime routine but now it's more like Sunday (with hair washed), Tuesday, Wednesday (hair washed after swimming), Friday. Sometimes changes a bit if she swims on Saturday as well.
