How often do your kids shower?

Just wondering after a conversation with my eldest, I used to have a bath twice a week (born in early 80s) and my two 9&10 shower or bath every other day, sometimes go an extra day if we've got a lot on but certainly more regular than I did. How often do yours get clean?

Pre teen every other day

Teen Every day

Er.. awkward. Usually about once a week age 4. He hates it so even that's an achievement. If he gets really muddy or dirty though we do an extra one. There will be screaming.

Que the angry mob... 😳🤦‍♀️

When my daughter was a baby, washing her hair was a nightmare. She'd scream nonstop all the way through doing it. I just has to psych myself up, take a big breath and go for it. Still hates washing her hair many years later Grin

Children aged 8 and 11, shower or bath every day. Have done since about 6 weeks old. Once a week really isn't enough, IMO.

Agreed.

Dd (2) has a daily bath or shower. I just plonk her in with me.
Once or twice a week isn't enough I don't think. Especially for older children and definitely for teens. The amount of sweat, pee and poo etc, needs a full body water running rinse. Not just a sink job.

What do people wash with in the sink?

Chasedbythechaser · 19/01/2023 13:49

Obviously do what you want with your own children but it is incorrect to state that people who don’t do as you do are dirty. It is untrue.

From the American Academy of Dermatology.

Children ages 6 to 11: Guidelines for bathing
If your child is in this age group, taking a daily bath is fine. However, children in this age group may not need a daily bath. Children aged 6 to 11 need a bath:

At least once or twice a week
When they get dirty, such as playing in the mud
After being in a pool, lake, ocean, or other body of water
When they get sweaty or have body odor
As often as directed by a dermatologist if getting treated for a skin disease

How often do you bathe them?

my youngest has also got eczema and I have been washing her every other day and putting cream, but the exzema although better hasn’t gone away so wondering if I should wash her less.

Mine has eczema. We have specific creams / emollients for baths and showers and for applying afterwards too. Have always showered mine daily and never been told to do less or otherwise .

JammiDodgers · 19/01/2023 13:51

Mine both shower daily. Without fail.

WaddleAway · 19/01/2023 13:51

The 9 and 7 year olds shower 4 nights a week. The other 3 nights they’re at a hobby that finishes late and there’s no time when they get home.
4 year old has a bath or a shower every night, mainly because he’s autistic and really loves water.

My Dad still does this… he uses a flannel!! 😁🥴

Quornflakegirl · 19/01/2023 13:55

Everyday and have always done.

smileladiesplease · 19/01/2023 13:58

Every day all of my kids and now grandchildren. I had a friend who only bathed her kids twice a week (yeuk) even in the summer.

JustFrustrated · 19/01/2023 13:59

Teen, every day ... occasionally slips up and misses a day. She is efficient in the shower.

Pre-teen, battle to get in and out of the shower. But 3 times a week.

Jomummy1013 · 19/01/2023 14:00

Mine have all showered or bathed every day since being babies x

Ricco12 · 19/01/2023 14:09

2 times a week , sometimes 3.

Boys age 6 and 8

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 19/01/2023 14:10

Daily but he's a bit older now

ViscountBiscuit · 19/01/2023 14:24

Every other day until puberty, then up to daily because of sweat etc.

EileenAdler · 19/01/2023 14:31

Every day. 3 kids, late-mid teens.

Handbagsandgladrags81 · 19/01/2023 14:31

Daily, usually before bed. 2 minute shower or longer if a bath.

Flannel and or sponge

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/01/2023 14:59

Surely it's more faff to flannel wash down than just get in a shower for 2mins.

Right?! Flannel wash is a faff, doesn’t get you as clean, means you have to use the same bit of cloth on both armpits and genitals, water runs down onto the floor/your clothes…

MaverickGooseGoose · 19/01/2023 15:00

After they have been at the stables twice a week and on a Sunday for school. They're 11, not stinky apart from stables, they are also eczema prone and too much washing aggravates it. One of them loves to bath for fun so might have that on a Saturday if bored.

DuchessofSandwich · 19/01/2023 15:00

Once or twice a week depending on how bad her eczema is.
