And it's true, we're Don’t know the circumstances. But it's still strange, if that ever did happen and fair on pp for asking why.

FraggleRok · 20/01/2023 08:39

I think the authorities are concerned he’s having a mental health crisis, or they are locked in a folie à deux. They have behaved so erratically. There must be concerns that as clearly desperate and erratic that he will harm another member of the public, the baby and/or Constance or all three of them. He has shown he’s capable of heinous crimes. Likely drugs involved too and perhaps the baby is withdrawing. Obviously none of this would be published because it’s confidential medical information.

Do you really think nannies and boarding school is in anyway appropriate for children who will have suffered trauma, neglect and likely have attachment difficulties?

The question still stands: why did the family let her children go into care (supposedly)? That's no way to treat traumatised children either who have better outcomes with other family members

We don't know that they did

  • they might be living with extended family members
  • they might have wanted to raise the children but weren't considered suitable by social services. I don't know about the rest of the family, but Napier Marten has a history of abandoning his kids to go to Australia, and to this day is posting conspiracy theories about chemtrails and vaccines on his Facebook page, which I'm sure would raise eyebrows.
  • they may simply not have wanted to raise three+ children but have been happy with the idea of them going to a loving adoptive family. It's not their responsibility to raise a string of their relative's traumatised children, probably giving up a great deal to do so.

If they aren't with extended family, I doubt they're bouncing around the foster care system. A loving permanent adoptive family who really do want to be parents is not the worst option.

kittykutty · 20/01/2023 12:54

I know that, I just said. But IF they didn't, that is interesting.

LaTangerina · 20/01/2023 18:54

She appears very happy from her Facebook, I know usually social media is how you want things to appear, but it's very sad I hope they'll be OK & show up soon.

You have no idea whether the LA has placed the other kids with family or with a foster carer. Often Local Authorities place children in Kinship care - ie with their family. But the fact that the LA has formally removed them means that the parents cannot simply take them back

kittykutty · 20/01/2023 19:07

Yes I know we have no idea. My initial post made that perfectly clear 👍

Tamarindtree · 20/01/2023 19:22

He actually got 40 years but was sent back to the U.K. after serving half! We should never have let him back in!

Do you have a source for that 'fact' as presumably we don't actually know that's the case either? It's the assumption but people need to stop talking like it's fact

So why are you speculating that they might be in local authority care?

He is British. Where else is he supposed to go?

I didn’t realise he was British. He was only 14 when he committed the crime. He must have moved to the US with family. I’ve little sympathy but he essentially was sent to a country he had never lived in as an adult.

Seeing as he committed his crime a few months after he moved to the US aged 14, when he was deported back to the UK he hadn't lived anywhere as a free adult, and arguably had more ties to the UK than the US outside the prison system.

We're very happy to deport foreign criminals from the UK to their country of origin so we can hardly be surprised when we get our own citizens deported back to us.

SpinningFloppa · 19/01/2023 13:02

I don’t think putting out he is a SO is going to get the results they wanted (hoping people turn on them) just been reading the comments on the daily Mail (yeah I know 🙄) and most people are still in support of them and think they should be left alone given the crime happened when he was 14 and in America where we know has much harsher sentencing, most people seem to be of the opinion on there that he has served his time and should be left alone he’s not wanted for any other crime.

Are people that thick that they think that a child is in danger or removed by the courts solely because of a criminal history of the parent?

Lots of sex offenders of adults have the care of or contact with their children.

One of her pictures is clearly a police shot, she has had 3 children already removed, in short succession. This is clearly a case where neglectful or dangerous parenting is involved. That might be related to him, her or both of them. The baby could very well be withdrawing.

SpinningFloppa · 20/01/2023 21:29

Honestly the comments are crazy I’ve seen a lot of support for him 🤦🏻 “they’ve been together 6 years leave them alone”
“she’s an adult let her make her own choices” I just don’t think people read just like this thread shows, people also asking why he was “allowed” into the U.K. when the article literally explains why!

Theres no hope for society. Remember these people have the vote!!!

I don't think that picture of Constance is a police mug shot..it looks like a passport photo tbh

vinoandbrie · 20/01/2023 21:50

Oh no, the Telegraph is reporting that she gave birth in the car. Bless her and the baby.

Quote:

“The mother from an aristocratic family who disappeared with her rapist boyfriend gave birth in the back of their car, The Telegraph can reveal.

Constance Marten, 35, and Mark Gordon, 48, disappeared two weeks ago after they had apparently concealed her pregnancy for five months.

Their car was discovered on Jan 5 abandoned and on fire on the M61 near Bolton.

Shortly afterwards, Ms Marten, was caught on CCTV carrying the baby who was only a few days old, as they made their way to Liverpool, Harwich, Colchester and then East Ham, in east London.

Sources connected to the investigation, which has involved three separate police forces, have revealed that emergency service staff called to the car fire spotted placenta in the back seat.”

….. Further quote:

“Greater Manchester Police was called at 6.33pm by motorists who reported seeing the car alight on the hard shoulder. When emergency workers arrived they found the front engine alight but inspected the front and rear of the vehicle to ensure no one was inside.

The source said it was then the crews spotted placenta and other signs of childbirth in the back seat. It is believed the baby was born in the car one or two days earlier.

The car was bought for cash shortly before it was found. Detectives do not believe the couple set the car alight, but it instead burst into flames after suffering a mechanical failure.

The discovery of the placenta means they went to great lengths to try to hide the birth as well as avoid getting essential medical attention, a move that could have revealed their whereabouts.”

This is just so sad.

Apologies if I shouldn’t have quoted.

Utterlyexhausted · 20/01/2023 21:51

Someone upthread mentioned Constance's dad's Facebook posts (Napier Marten)...I just had a look & he's posting loads of weird conspiracy theory stuff and making jokey comments..all very recently (like yesterday!) all while his daughter & grandchild are on the run..so odd and rather sad tbh.

It sounds like the car fire may have been a way to hide evidence of the baby existing, as opposed to being accidental? I mean surely otherwise you’d dispose of a placenta?? After a concealed pregnancy

What a mess. Poor baby.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/01/2023 22:10

I keep thinking about this story. Poor baby. I hope they are found safe and well.

Mikogirl · 20/01/2023 22:41

How do people know that she’s had children before? I can’t find that in any articles

Police appear to believe otherwise. I've also seen reposts that state the baby is known to be a bot which I found odd in the circumstances

On her Facebook, lots of photos...

Overthegardenfence · 20/01/2023 23:55

If she concealed her pregnancy for 5 months was the born prematurely?
