Bin day. Never used to think about it really. Now I’m proper obsessed with bin day and what to leave out when…

garden birds and feeding them.

it was like a switch flipped and now I’m buying high quality fat balls and ground feeding mixes….

Pensions - never, ever did I think I would be so interested in the pensions and retirements board on MoneySavingExpert!

LadyHester · 02/01/2023 09:17

Labels. My Dymo label maker is probably my most treasured possession.
Also birds.

AlwaysGinPlease · 02/01/2023 09:19

Oh Op I could have written that! Both the bins and the birds 😂 hedgehogs too. I spend a fortune!

BarrelOfOtters · 02/01/2023 09:20

I used to roll my eyes at mums detailed descriptions of parking issues and bin day. I’d love her to be still here so we could have a thorough in depth chat about Trevor from next doors inconsiderate bin placement.

or gardening. Love it now. Pig in shit with a seed catalogue. Where it used to be detailed plans of how to get to Macchu pichu.

DH gave me a fruit tree for Christmas. I was absolutely thrilled.

uncomplicatedish · 02/01/2023 09:22

How bad the dog smell is in my house:

Favouritefruits · 02/01/2023 09:46

The squirrels having enough food over winter. They’re wild animals but I find myself hiding nuts to keep them ‘occupied’ it’s ridiculous!

SharksInTheTea · 02/01/2023 09:51
  1. What birds have been in the garden today
  2. What is the exact order and perfect date to start my seedlings.
  3. Is my allotment ok?
  4. The energy metres

Also, this. I have just bought a steam mop, and I hate cleaning.

Slippers.I always thought old people wore them as my grandparents did.
I now have 2 pairs put aside for when my current ones wear out.🤣
I think it is because I feel the cold.My excuse anyway.

I also always have new slippers in anticipation of the current ones wearing out 🤣

KangarooKenny · 02/01/2023 10:26

Reading the meters on the last day of the month, and seeing how much my credit goes down.

KangarooKenny · 02/01/2023 10:29

I’ve currently got a desire to put up some shelves in my garage, buy 3 of everything that wont go off ( cleaning stuff, dry goods) and rotate the shopping as it comes in. I think that would give my great inner peace.
‘It’s definitely a getting older thing.

picklemewalnuts · 02/01/2023 10:31

I wonder if some of us have an empty space in our brain from micromanaging the house and children. As they grow up, the house doesn't get as trashed and we need something else to obsess about feeding.

partystress · 02/01/2023 10:34

Definitely women’s rights. But also whether I’ve had a decent poo today.

BestIsWest · 02/01/2023 10:38

I love this thread.
Birds
Bin day
Jigsaws
Gardening. I had a five year gardening diary, gardeners world almanac, wellies and a hori hori for Christmas.

@TroysMammy the shopping route. Have you been to the new massive Lidl?

My gas and electricity readings. I have a spreadsheet with trend lines and forecasts.

BasketOffEggTopography · 02/01/2023 10:46

Bins, not mine, the bin shenanigans on my street.

House prices and house hunting in general. Checking out right move even though I'm not moving house.

In the last year, my skin and what sort of treatments/products I should use after never having any interest in beauty.

Health, or lack thereof.

Me too 😟. Constantly assessing what’s going on and if there’s anything to worry about….

chevvyroo · 02/01/2023 11:24

LearnerCook · 02/01/2023 09:04

Women's rights again. I worry so much for younger women and girls in the family and how the future might look for them. I feel so stupid when I think back to 20/30 years ago, when I naively believed women had equality.

I feel like this. Looking back to the late 80s and I remember seeing raised awareness of DV, low reporting of rape etc. I thought great, we are now living in progressive times!!

Now I see that nothing much has changed and in some areas, things have got worse. I mean look at the state of the police and the kind of people they are recruiting.

whatisforteamum · 02/01/2023 11:46

Where the loos are on any trip out of the house.
Shopping...loos
New job...loos
Walk.well you get my drift.

whatisforteamum · 02/01/2023 11:51

I agree about womens rights.
I was a bit of a feminist in the 80s.
Now I still work in a male dominated profession and see in some ways nothing has changed.
That said I refuse to get drawn into making my male boss coffee like the other women do or popping to the shops for bits for work just because I'm female.
Things are changing but the progress is slow.

DreamingOfAGreenChristmas · 02/01/2023 11:56

Recycling. I police our bins, cut paper labels off soft plastic bags before taking them to the co-op, put tiny handfuls of crumbs in the food waste, remove that stupid copper wire wraparound from wine bottles to recycle separately and bow never to buy said wine again even if it is 25% off in Tesco.

flapjackfairy · 02/01/2023 12:00

I find I am irrationally annoyed by noise now I am older. The slightest noise outside has me rushing to the window to check out what is going on ! I am turning into a bats batshit curtain twitcher as I age
