Bin day. Never used to think about it really. Now I’m proper obsessed with bin day and what to leave out when…

garden birds and feeding them.

it was like a switch flipped and now I’m buying high quality fat balls and ground feeding mixes….

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles I have a Deenkee 4in1 robot hoover and I'm 99.9% sure it would work great on cat hair! I have dogs with soft hair (granted not as soft as a cats fluff!) But the little fella picks up everything! I expected him to just do a basic clean but he's very thorough, cleans under the skirting boards and the kitchen units if your kick boards aren't secure... 🫣 (Also have the Vax Air Lift 2 Pet+ hoover, picks hair up amazingly but is so damn heavy, clunky and unstable, I can't decide if I love it or hate it yet!)

I'm almost 40. My new habits are decluttering and wanting things to be more organised...
I've bought fancy glasses, cutlery, dessert bowls... Things that will only be used on 'special occasions'...
Also expensive luxuries. £45(?) on some Laura Mercier body souffle. Once over I'd begrudge more than £3 on a body moisturiser but this one will last ages, smells amazing and the scent lasts for hours and the glass jar looks far better than the plastic bottles.

😂😂 @Velda I like your style! I've accidentally set off a 'wrong bin' chain of reaction before, felt bad being the one who had the right bin out (eventually) after influencing the others with the wrong bin 🤭

Plingston · 02/01/2023 19:31

I'm in my early/mid thirties and have been an older person for at least a decade going by these responses. I put it down to having my first child in my late teens so I 'matured' very quickly.

Feeding birds, bin day, litter in the street, complaints to the council, jigsaws, knitting, gardening... All standard activities over here. I think I was only young and wild for about a year before I morphed into my true self :D

Clarabe1 · 02/01/2023 19:32

Litter- it drives me nuts. I can rant forever about it.
loud kids - are they getting louder or do you get more intolerant with age?
big light on- I have a meltdown
she/her they/ them etc… all bollocks.

Getting sick and the state of the NHS.

Falling over. I have dyspraxia and have always fallen over, but it seems to get worse as I get older and my varifocal lenses distort things and make me more prone to falling over as well.

The garden and feeding the birds. I worry about individual plants and how they're doing. The birds see me arriving home in my car and rush to the back to be fed.

The state of the country and how awful things are and what if I fall over one day and basically just have to stay there because it'll be impossible to get up.

Mostly about falling over.

User1785498 · 02/01/2023 19:41

The bins, because we pay for the garden waste I like to make sure something goes in it each fortnight, even through the winter
Seeing where everyone cars are parked up the road and gawping at any not recognised ones
organising the washing
feeding the birds, hedgehogs etc

TimeToLose8 · 02/01/2023 20:00

@pifflesticks 10pm is the witching hour for me too, and I can get a bit stressed if there's 5 minutes to go in any program we are watching.

It Must run in my family as my sister told me today that she had guests for dinner on New Year's Eve, and she told them that her bedtime was 10pm !

arghtriffid · 02/01/2023 20:11

The squirrels having enough food over winter. They’re wild animals but I find myself hiding nuts to keep them ‘occupied’ it’s ridiculous

I did this last year. 🤗

dropthevipers · 02/01/2023 20:23

Trans stuff, queen theory and gender woo in general. Mostly wondering how the hell this bollocks (which is at least as batshit as flat earth believers) ever gained any traction whatsoever. I also wonder how to get into amateur dry cleaning.

echt · 02/01/2023 21:09

Not sure it's about getting older, but my local council changed garden bin collection to weekly last year. I know! Now I'm obsessed with filling the huge bin up every week instead of the fortnightly rush to do the same.

The shit that's coming down on women; all the advances being chipped away at.

Soothsayer1 · 02/01/2023 21:18

my teeth & my feet
hoping my hair will go white quickly so I can be a platinum-blonde-bombshell old lady😂

Soothsayer1 · 02/01/2023 21:19

jam making also seems very compelling these days😄

AnnieSnap · 02/01/2023 21:25

I’m 63 and no longer recognise the UK after 12 years of (this brand of) Tory Government. The country is broken. The NHS, schools, any kind of community services, including Libraries, youth clubs are either gone or on their way. I worry about that.

CorvusPurpureus · 02/01/2023 21:27

Women's rights.

Cookery pottering. I'm much more likely to cook adventurously now - which I love to do - now that dc are teens so amenable to new stuff.

mrsdolittle · 02/01/2023 21:42

Me:
Bin day and having too much recycling (won't fit in designated bags)
The weather
Getting washing dry
How my roses are coping in the cold weather
On street parking in our road
Potholes
Ventilating the house
The price of gas
The health of D cat

DH:
Women's rights
Global warming and climate change
Racial equality

Sweet Jesus I feel old and boring!!!!

WhiskersPete · 02/01/2023 21:46

Storage solutions.

MsVestibule · 02/01/2023 22:32

I'm pleased to see so many are concerned about womens rights and safeguarding of women and children! Although this is MN, so...

But onto more important things:

  • condensation levels in the bathroom - I clear the sash window at least twice a day with the Karcher window vacuum and obsessively check how much I've collected.
  • washing different items at the correct temperature. I have A System.
Haven't got into gardening yet, not sure if that will ever happen. I'm now in my 50s so think if it was going, it would have happened by now 😢.
LouLou198 · 02/01/2023 22:41

Also making sure the birds are well fed! Especially in winter.
Gardening
Drying off the condensation from the windows in the morning.
Having a well stocked pantry.

justcallmebozo · 02/01/2023 22:47

@Favouritefruits @arghtriffid - no, it's not ridiculous, it's just wonderful.

My new "thing" is humidity (actual humidity/relative humidity/dew point)
not an obsession yet but heading that way.

gillys · 02/01/2023 23:22

I feel at peace with the bins.
However, getting washing dried is a new obsession.
Like to feed the birds but mostly get magpies, who are bastards.
State of the potholes.
Condensation in the bathroom.
I aim to organise the cupboard under the kitchen sink soon.

babysgotthespends · 02/01/2023 23:33

Dog poo on the streets.

Choccolatte · 02/01/2023 23:35

How old are you bin obsessives? I'm 48 and have lived here for 15 years yet have no idea if bin day is Wednesday or Thursday as they changed it several years ago! I just put it out when the neighbours do. Is this something else to look forward to? I am becoming obsessed with birds is that the gateway obsession?

mathanxiety · 02/01/2023 23:42

Birds - birdsong and feeding them, the welfare of trees, potted plants, spup, crochet, bringing my scarf with me wherever I go in case it gets windy,

mathanxiety · 02/01/2023 23:43

Spup = soup
