And also on the days I'm not worrying about the bathroom, which is clearly a displacement activity, I worry about loneliness in old age and ill health on my own. I recently divorced at 47 and have no kids. No family nearby. My now DP is very much a casual arrangement, even though I want more. The I worry that I only want more to try and counteract the loneliness worries. You know when they tell you to only worry about the things you can do something about? I need to tell myself that firmly!

Storage solutions.

Oh god yes. Specifically herbs and spices and how can I store them. Easily.

AnnieSnap · 03/01/2023 14:01

@AutumnCrow I think I quoted the wrong poster. I should have quoted the poster who said their worry was getting older.

I can't do anything to help with bird obsessions (cheepy annoying little fuckers who scare my cat) but for those fretting about womens rights, please take heart that not all the younger generation are on board with throwing our rights away, and lots of them are starting to wake up, change their views and fight back. I really do think the tide is turning. A couple of years ago my DCs were eyerolly and embarrassed about my phobic non inclusive views, now their eyes are fully open. To the point that one of my DDs was thrown out of a bar last week for protesting about men looking over the cubicles in the unisex toilet Hmm She managed to peak quite a few people on her way out Smile

Good on your DD and all those who are shouting out about the lived reality of this.

Leaking roofs. We had a couple of minor leaks appeared this winter, it really is only a little amount, but neither we nor the builder can pin down what's causing it. So every day there's a new theory. First it looked like a dodgy gutter. Fixed that.Dry damp patches with a hair dryer so I can tell if new water is coming in or not. Wait for rain to see if it's resolved. It's not resolved. Repeat endlessly with different solutions non of which work. Check obsessively every hour for much water is coming in. Think constantly about possible causes. It's especially funny as my gran was a renowned worrier for which I would laugh at her as a teenager and I specifically remember her saying she was loosing sleep because the roof was leaking and me thinking 'how on earth can something as daft as that keep you up at night'. Now here I am doing just that.

Recycling

I keep different collection 'bins' for different types, ensure everything is broken down properly and even feel guilty if I've peeled a label off and left the 'sticky' on an item before throwing it a bin

Soft plastics get taken to Aldi, M&S or Tesco, batteries go to Aldi, foil pot lids get collected and wrapped in a big bit of foil before being thrown in the recycling, anything with names and or addresses get shredded, the plastic windows in envelopes get cut out and put in soft plastics and I'm always looking for ways of not throwing something away.

As it stands, I throw away about half a bin of General Waste a month.

Still looking for a way of getting rid of LED spotlights, water filters and old spectacles, now my local Tesco has stopped taking them and the optician closed down

Women’s rights and the safeguarding of children.
If you’re not angry you’re not paying attention.

Or you're not a transphobe because actually know some real trans people.

Ambient lighting. I HATE putting the "big light" on so spend the late afternoon turning on all the various lamps/wall lights to create a cozy atmosphere.

Me too!

I think about this often.

I spend my life turning off lights in empty rooms ..

How old are you bin obsessives? I'm 48 and have lived here for 15 years yet have no idea if bin day is Wednesday or Thursday as they changed it several years ago! I just put it out when the neighbours do. Is this something else to look forward to? I am becoming obsessed with birds is that the gateway obsession?

I'm in my 40s, but was more preoccupied in the bins when younger because I lived in a place where general waste was only collected once every two weeks and I had to keep it all inside for that time. It became a real worry.
Now I have a balcony and twice weekly general waste collections so I'm trying to relax a bit!

Our bin arrangements have been the same for a long while, I don't obsess about them.

But ... randomly I've grown to love a peaceful half hour with a cup of tea and a jigsaw 😁 So calming and restful.

BarrelOfOtters · 21/04/2023 07:15

I’m now obsessed with the fact that our bin arrangements went from weekly to fortnightly months ago, amid much local uproar and upset, and our neighbour still hopefully put theirs out every week……

Agree with this

I am so worried about the future for women and children. How on earth have supposedly rational people allowed this to happen?

annielou55 · 23/04/2023 12:31

Rotating perfumes so they all get used equally.

All the herb and spice jars must be facing forwards in the spice rack, I have to check if DH has used and not done this!

Classic Corrie in ITV3 when I’m off on Fridays (much better than modern Corrie).

LearnerCook · 23/04/2023 12:41

Women's rights. We have more protections now than when I was young, but it doesn't really feel like it. And I worry for my niece; what sort of life will she have? What challenges will she encounter? I do obsess about it.

Comfy shoes. I do try my hardest to find ones that aren't completely fuddy-duddy, but it's not easy. And I've even started wearing slippers, for the first time in my life! Ugh.

QueefQueen80s · 23/04/2023 13:08

Beesandhoney123 · 26/04/2023 20:46

Gardening. ENJOYING and going to garden centres.

State of the nation

Not worrying if my underwear doesn't match. I wonder where fussy me went.

Dc being obsessed with phones and missing out on life when left home, preferring to sit indoors with virtual buddies and games.

BarrelOfOtters · 27/04/2023 07:14

Yes, comfy shoes. Can’t remember the last time I wore heels. And wondering if it’s too soon to treat myself to new slippers.
