BoreOfWhabylon · 31/12/2022 19:36

Aww JD, have you been hanging out in Hotel California MN all day? Grin

I'm telling you now, it's a hard habit to break!

BoreOfWhabylon · 31/12/2022 19:38

Happy New Year to you too! You might as well pass your agent another gin, I think your next book might be a bit delayed Grin

@ImustLearn2Cook No, as far as I know, I’m definitely me. I got an email pointing me to this conversation and couldn’t resist joining in. :)

@BlackeyedSusan You could always use this if you wanted some more inspiration: link.jdkirk.com/insultme

@BertaHoon Oh God, you found me!

🤣 @JDKirk the feckin Christmas I've had! I only went shopping. Bunch of eejits! Fed Bob through a straw. Fuck all wrong with him but convinced the powers that be to wire his jaw just in case.
Cabbage soup for the whiny old bastard. Shame can't wire his arse shut.
Happy New Year!

Ostrich jizz!!!

Ban · 01/01/2023 11:20

Has anyone else downloaded one of the books? @JDKirk have you noticed in a spike in kindle orders since this thread?

JDKirk · 01/01/2023 14:40

@Ban I haven’t checked, actually! My dad’s in hospital at the moment and found out yesterday that he’s caught Covid in there, so haven’t had a minute to really think about work stuff.

PritiPatelsMaker · 01/01/2023 14:48

Sorry to hear about your DF JDKirk. Hope he's comfortable Flowers

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/01/2023 16:32

I'm also sorry to hear that @JDKirk

Best wishes to you and him Flowers

(We may not do hugs and hearts but we do offer flowers)

Oh that's rubbish, I hope he makes a swift recovery Flowers

Twinsmummy1812 · 02/01/2023 04:18

Hope your dad is on the mend @JDKirk . I have all of your audiobooks from the Logan/Hoon series and I absolutely love them. The humour makes me laugh out loud. Compliments also to Angus King for his narration, he is the voice of Sinead, Jack, Hoon, Tyler etc for me. Although I’m sure you are throwing in other characters with accents (West Country landlady) just to make his job harder 😂😂😂.

keep writing x

ImustLearn2Cook · 02/01/2023 04:55

Sorry to hear about your dad @JDKirk hope he gets better soon 💐

HotelBloedel · 02/01/2023 06:55

JD Kirk and David J Gatward books have been a highlight of a very bumpy year for me. Delighted to see @JDKirk on here. Looking forward to Hoon perusing AIBU in the next book.

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/01/2023 07:42

Ha... oh dear, busted by the vipers of Mumsnet. We only use the vomit emote in seriousness. The flowers may or may not be used sarcastically. The biscuit emote is always dripping with sarcasm.

Btw..

Sinead - doesn't bother with any of it, it's all a waste of time.

Boyband - couldn't work out any of it, still had a MySpace page last he looked. If pushed, thinks Mumsnet and Netmums are the same place.

Hamza - Reddit. Possibly edits Wikipedia occasionally but wouldn't tell anyone.

Ben, Jack, unaware of its existance.

Hoon - would launch it all into space with a rocket up its ringer in a heartbeat, if he ever found out it existed.

Berta - secretly has a Mumsnet account but only uses it for AIBU when very bored. Will kill you if you tell anyone.

Iris - 4chan.

I introduced my DP to Hoon via the audio books, he is gutted there isn't more and has been swearing far more profusely since, is there a cure for this?

uncomplicatedish · 02/01/2023 09:21

I've just downloaded the audiobook of the first in the series... have been looking for my next listen after a poor choice for my current one which I am not enjoying but will see through.

I now have high hopes @JDKirk

Dablikeacrap · 02/01/2023 10:30

Hope your Dad recovers swiftly!

I’m looking forward to starting the Hoon books once I’ve finished making my way through the pile of remaining Logan books I have to go. Started A Death Most Monumental last night

I can imagine Hoon handing everyone’s arses to them on a plate in AIBU once he finished cursing the existence of mumsnet in the first place. He would quite enjoy it!

Thanks, everyone. He’s stable at the moment, and we’re hoping he’s going to start improving from here.

@Twinsmummy1812 you’re so right! I make a point of throwing in at least one difficult accent in every book. In the latest Hoon I had two heavy accented Liverpudlian men arguing with one another just to torture Angus.

@HotelBloedel have you tried Alex Smith? The three of us are secretly writing in a little shared universe, with some hints and crossovers popping up in various books.

@WiddlinDiddlin I reckon that’s bang on. Hamza secretly editing Wikipedia made me laugh. I bet you’re right. I might even mention that in the next book, although that would mean I’d have to actually research how to edit stuff on Wikipedia, and we all know my track record with that sort of thing…

Has your DP tried the Hoon insult generator? link.jdkirk.com/insultme

@uncomplicatedish Thank you, and welcome aboard!

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 02/01/2023 10:50

All the best for your dad’s recovery, JD.

You’ve handled this with grace and humour. If that’s reflected in your novels, I’m off to try them.

I could do with a new series to start the year and my Dad’s borrowed the rest of my St Mary’s novels, which was my original plan for January.

HotelBloedel · 02/01/2023 10:53

@JDKirk yes I’ve read all the Alex Smith books now. I’m currently in that limbo state of waiting for one of you three to publish the next book. I believe you’re next up in February. I think I’d like to see Grimm trying to decipher Mumsnet.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/01/2023 11:38

Nothing very graceful about that Insult Generator! Have to say I'm shocked, @JDKirk, shocked I tell you. You seemed such a nice boy too.

(Really JD, I hope this thread has provided a bit of welcome distraction for you. Hopefully your DF has turned a corner and will continue to improve now).

Was nobody else thinking “A scrunchie?!” and expecting JDK to go off on one Berger style and dump us all by Post-It?!
