Pre-ordered book 17... but its not out until 25th July what will I dooooooooooooo

Also @JDKirk ... whilst watching the super high-brow show Inside the Factory, featuring jam - an AMAZING idea occurred and as I know just how much I love it when people ram their amazing ideas for my work down my throat I clearly thought I'd tell you about it...

A murder... in a marmalade/jam vat. Boiling sugar and fruit... and a body.... puts Ben off his marmalade for life. No one fancies jam donuts for a while (except Hoon..)

Concerning that my first thought on seeing a vat of boiling jam was 'ooh the hatch on that vat is easily big enough to shove a body through'.... 'even if it was struggling'.

I'll go and have a word with myself now 😆

Aisling Bea is a great shout

ArticSaviour · 26/07/2023 22:18

Anyone read the new book yet?

I think it has one of my favourite Hoon lines ever: no spoilers, but it references Andre the Giant...

Twinsmummy1812 · 26/07/2023 23:09

No, bought the audiobook today but saving it for a holiday. Killing me!

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/07/2023 15:37

OOOOOOOOOh thankyou for the reminder... listening now! :D For I have zero self control and so will have to pause each time I have to deal with a work related thing.

hiredandsqueak · 27/07/2023 20:51

I bought it on Audible, I have a day off from doing childcare for dgs tomorrow, I can't wait to get started. It's the prospect of a day full of Logan that has kept me going this week as I've got a horrible virus and looking after dgs this week has been awful.

BertaHoon · 30/07/2023 21:50

I'm SO lucky. The stars surrendered and I was (still am!) child free for the new release by Captain @JDKirk .

Gutted. I've finished it. Brilliance reigns once again. I can't help but give a big smile and hear canned cheering when my fuckwit of a... Oops.

Thank you Captain.

BertaHoon · 30/07/2023 21:52

I've got to read some tatty old shite now 🙄

I sound like Terry Wogan in his heyday.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 31/07/2023 20:12

@JDKirk - could you see if Highland libraries will add the series to Borrowbox, please? There's little good stuff on there and I'd love to read your books.

BertaHoon · 02/08/2023 02:21

Congratulations @JDKirk #1 no less.

Very well deserved, and I thank you for many hours of reading pleasure.

And the laughs, mustn't forget those, sometimes few and far between. Thank you.

Can I go back to swearing now?

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/08/2023 04:56

Finished it yesterday... I was VERY worried there for a minute, I'd have gone RIGHT off you ...

I hear you! I felt your anxiety!

Did you do a little inner cheer at... paraphrasing here... I wouldn't normally ask but... 🤣

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/08/2023 04:44

Oh yes, absolutely (well it was audio book so, an actual cheer, out loud!)

awaynboilyurheid · 07/08/2023 07:56

Used the JD Kirk insult link and got …sweary word sweary word Jakey b*stard and realised JD is Scottish! I liked the insult so off to buy the books now!
( well handled replies JD)

Username change to share this - met @JDKirk at the weekend and was in the audience his event at a book festival.

He is just as funny in real life, and signed my book with a “gentle dig” and my family members who couldn’t be there! 😂

Anyone else read Dead Man Walking yet?

An absolutely belting Hoon line at the end

hiredandsqueak · 08/10/2023 21:30

I was a bit disappointed by Dead Man Walking tbh felt like it lacked the depth of previous books and the other characters seemed like caricatures. Hoon and Tyler and Tammy Jo and Heather partnerships should be interesting though.

BertaBobAndMeToo · 08/10/2023 21:35

Agreed - not my favourite one so far, it was a bit of a caricature and even the extreme characters - Tyler and TJ, were extreme.

i missed Ben and Hamza, Dave and Shona, and policing in the Highlands. It was all a little sitcom for me.

Oioicaptain · 08/10/2023 21:37

Who the hell comments on a two week old post that's inactive? That's what I want to know! Ridiculous.

Yes - like a Halloween special, almost

Then again, I laughed out loud more than once, and I am loving the idea of Heather and Tammy Jo

BertaHoon · 14/10/2023 22:17

Ooh. I've accidentally hit a spoiler!

It's making me chuckle so far. For that alone, well done Captain @JDKirk

You?

BertaHoon · 16/10/2023 09:48

Sorry @JDKirk but I'm struggling to finish one.

Normally I'd be excited and rinse in one read.

I'm a bit bored @JDKirk !

BertaBobAndMeToo · 16/10/2023 09:52

I did finish it, and there were moments of joy, but it didn’t deliver as strongly for me as some.

i prefer it when the gang is all together, this one felt like a watered down version, and the premise was a bit of a cliche for me.

Will I buy the next, and the next? Definitely! His writing is still hugely entertaining, and in a long series I’m surprised to find that this has been the first, for me, blip.
