I've just had a healthy and nourishing lunch of crisps and Stilton, with a light dessert of stollen bites and rose and violet cream chocolates. What bizarre combinations are you eating in this weird, drifting week?

@Bookworm333
Use panettone instead of sponge in trifle.
Toast it and eat with pâté, it will be similar to brioche.
Briefly fry slices in butter, then serve scattered with fruit and a spoon of mascarpone /cream etc for a quick pudding.

Yum, will try that too. Thank you.

Why did you not refuse them?

DH accepted the groceries. Was a bit bemused by the avalanche of panettone but was scared to refuse it lest I get cross at him for ruining some Christmas recipe I'd planned! I was out with DC at the time - probably will make sure I'm around next year though....

Hedjwitch · 29/12/2022 15:36

Handful of Roses chocolates and a slice of toast.

Heronatemygoldfish · 29/12/2022 15:41

Breakfast/brunch was a Brussels pate and sage and onion stuffing toastie.

I contemplated adding Stilton but might try it in a toastie with stuffing tomorrow.

QuicheQuoche · 29/12/2022 15:42

Lunch today was Kettle Chips and the legs of a Lindt Teddy Bear. Forgot how nice Lindt chocolate is.

Roominmyhouse · 29/12/2022 15:49

For breakfast I had a Brie, cranberry and pancetta baguette. Washed down with 3 cups of tea and most of a box of roses! Just had a late lunch of leftover crisps and mozzarella sticks. Going to a friends for dinner tonight so may well eat a proper meal later!

MillenialAvocado · 29/12/2022 15:52

Nothing in the cupboard now we're home, so for lunch I had some noodles, mixed with tinned tomatoes and beef stock and gravy granules. It was a sort of makeshift beef and tomato pot noodle. Probably sounds grim but I enjoyed it Grin

itssquidstella · 29/12/2022 16:08

I’ve been living on Lindt.

Weightlossanne · 29/12/2022 16:14

Breakfast was the last of the panettone, lunch was stuffing followed by Christmas pudding. I’m having a cheese free day today but will be back on it tomorrow.

catsnthat · 29/12/2022 16:19

I had apple and mincemeat crumble with double cream for breakfast yesterday.

Deathraystare · 29/12/2022 16:25

@SqueakyDinosaur

Stollen bites and Rose and Violet creams? Damn you! I feel a murderous rage coming on!

Sorry guys- broccoli and Stilton soup plus a handful of dates and figs

Rainbow1901 · 29/12/2022 16:34

Started off okay this morning with toast and a yoghurt. Since then had numerous glasses of fizz pop, slices of gammon ham, cheese, crisps, slice of Xmas cake and thinking of a mince pie with cream next!!
I can eat like this as DH is having a medical procedure tomorrow so can't eat from 1 pm today - no need to prepare a meal or pretend to to any rate!! 😉

artant · 29/12/2022 16:36

I’m baffled by the concept of leftover roast potatoes! How is such a thing possible?

I have taken the precaution of finishing the crisps in case anyone else realised there was another half a bag I was too mean to share on Christmas Day. The fridge remains quite cheese heavy but I can take my time over that as there’s no real competition (the weirdos).

My Christmas nut roast is providing many quick meals (slice nut roast, put on plate, add cheese).

Thus thread has reminded me that there are still some After Eights (and Matchmakers as I went a bit retro with chocolate this year). Must remedy that.

artant · 29/12/2022 16:38

And I’m impressed by the idea of an accidental panettone mountain. It sounds like such a good thing to have about the place at this time of year!

Speedweed · 29/12/2022 16:39

I'm reaching the dangerous stage of being nearly out of crackers but still a ton of leftover bits of different cheeses (if anyone has any good recipes for using up lots of small bits of different cheese, please suggest it!). It means I start eating cheese like quality street.

Tonight though, I will be raiding the freezer to try and use up the remaining frozen canapes - a toss up between asian style lollipops and mini chicken kievs, I think.

Have just finished the last of the chocolate as a warm up.

Dragonskin · 29/12/2022 16:41

I had Christmas cake for breakfast and crackers with Brie for lunch

SingingSands · 29/12/2022 16:43

Lunch today was 3 crackers and cheese, a bag of crisps and a very generous slice of my Mother's home made Christmas cake. Washed down with a mug of tea and a Bailey's chaser.

PinkBuffalo · 29/12/2022 16:43

I am living off chocolate and Pringles at the moment. With a few “proper” meals thrown in for extra measure

Whichwhatnow · 29/12/2022 16:45

I actually went to my sister's for Christmas so she's the one who's ended up with a massive surplus of After Eights, Roses, Matchmakers, cheese, crackers, Yule log and trifle. However I live within 2 minutes of several corner shops and have thus far consumed an average of 200g of chocolate, plus at least 1kg of grapes every day since the 25th. I am kidding myself that the grapes are healthy and balance out the chocolate.

Fluffluff · 29/12/2022 16:48

Started well...toast but real butter
Home from a walk and a cream yum yum
Lunch was hummus and pitta bread I skipped the veg
Snack time... Crisps..followed by air fried cheesy chilli hash brown fries
I'm thinking a sandwich for tea

Blueberrycreampie · 29/12/2022 16:51

@Bookworm333 Ah! My DH would be the same - fear over logic🤣.

Jewelanemone · 29/12/2022 16:53

Duck pâté on toast for breakfast. Chaource with fig and pear chutney on crackers and pickled onions for lunch. Indian takeaway later for dinner. Lots of After Eights, Turkish Delight and nougat in between. Oh, and a bowl of trifle. And some cheese and onion crisps. Peanuts. Christ, when will it ever end?

exhaustedbeans · 29/12/2022 16:54

Quality street for breakfast, and has been all week!

Lunch was patty food samosas, a crumpet with jam, some steamed dumplings and some cheese and onion crisps.

Tonight will be left over cheese, more bloody samosas and probably the rest of the ham and cheese croquettes. I'm so fed up of bloody party food now! I can't wait to actually eat an actual vegetable. Grin
