Anyone else have a child clearly struggling to sleep with the excitement?

DS is 5 and just wide awake still (usually asleep by 6.30pm).

Mine are sat in the living room colouring.

There's no point in even attempting sleep yet in our house!

Thesearmsofmine · 24/12/2022 20:50

It’s too exciting to be asleep yet! Not expecting 6 year old to be asleep for another hour or so yet. Older two will be later.

2tired2bewitty · 24/12/2022 20:50

‘Santa only comes to children who are asleep in their own beds’ is on repeat here 😱.

My 8yo wouldn't normally go to bed until now, obviously she's going to be later tonight as excited. Trouble is I need her to go to sleep so I can get all the pressies down!!!

Dedontdodatderdode · 24/12/2022 20:53

read them a story Grin

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 24/12/2022 20:53

I have teenagers. There is still quite some time. Before they go to bed and we all pretend they can't hear us filling their stockings.

SpottyStripyDuvet · 24/12/2022 20:56

@2tired2bewitty I am about to go upstairs and deploy that line.

Beanbagtrap · 24/12/2022 20:56

Currently in a darkened room with 3yo thrashing about and randomly shouting about how magical Santa is because he can move a fireguard, forgetting that anyone can actually move a fireguard.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 24/12/2022 20:57

DD went up at 7.45pm as normal and asleep by 8pm. She's been asking all week how she'll be able to get to sleep because she'll be too excited and has been getting the same answer "well if you don't go to sleep you don't get presents because Santa can't come while you're awake, so you'll have to try hard won't you". She went off like a dream which to be honest I was a bit surprised about as really thought she'd play up a bit.

JelloFishy · 24/12/2022 20:59

We've had 2 Christmas books. No sign of sleep yet. At a relative's house so the kids are sharing a room, keeping each other up.

"Santa will not come if mummy and daddy are still up getting things ready for tomorrow."

That old chestnut is NOT working. Also left my drink in another room. Send help!

itsgettingweird · 24/12/2022 20:59

Mines 18.

But he was up at 6 (me too) for swim training and swam an 8k set.

He's shattered so I think he'll fall asleep soon 🤣🤣

Yep, our two will be up till 1am, 2am, 3am...

Meanwhile we are quite pissed and wondering (loudly) about filling stockings, putting presents around the tree and what to eat tomorrow when in fact, we're more excited than they are!

mumof3now2 · 24/12/2022 21:04

Non believers here (15 and 14)
One upstairs, one watching a film with DH. Stockings under tree as we usually go to bed before them

WaddleAway · 24/12/2022 21:05

Only just put mine to bed (9, 7 and 3). Older 2 will settle to sleep, 3 year old will be awake a while yet! I’ve still got loads of wrapping to do 😭

Closedlips · 24/12/2022 21:07

I'm very impressed your 5 year old is normally in bed at 6.30!

4 and 6 here and both still fighting sleep.

Beanbagtrap · 24/12/2022 21:10

After reminding 3yo he needs to sleep I've been told I'm annoying, not so annoying I'm allowed to leave the room though. Battery on 11% send help.

OrangePomander · 24/12/2022 21:11

First year here with both kids not believing. It’s awesome, I’ve asked them to leave a glass of wine and a chocolate instead of milk and cookies 😂Hope your kids get to sleep soon.

Keepgoing88 · 24/12/2022 21:12

Yes x 3 awake kids!!

GrannieD · 24/12/2022 21:12

5yo and 6yo old both asleep at 7.30. 6yo did say she was getting up at 1.00 tho!

Mylittlesandwich · 24/12/2022 21:13

3yo finally gave in the battle about 15 mins ago.

Lookingformymarbles · 24/12/2022 21:16

Oh goodness, I feel for you all trying to get small people to sleep and stay asleep-no doubt they'll be awake at some ungodly hour too!

After one Christmas where ds2 just did not go to sleep little sod we decided to change our routine and often arranged something to do to kill a few hours-panto/bowling/cinema with food thrown in if possible so we'd be out until about 9pm so we'd come home and they'd be tired enough to go to sleep fairly quickly.

BakewellGin1 · 24/12/2022 21:16

Youngest DS (3) gave in at 7.50 - usually in bed for 7...
Oldest DS (14) is upstairs on his playstation and chatting to friends - he will be up until midnight ish...
Luckily he's not a bit of bother so presents are out, I'm having a gin then will sort stockings and leave him to it.
Get some sleep while I can I'm thinking

APurpleSquirrel · 24/12/2022 21:16

4 yo was asleep by 7.30pm - earlier than normal. 8 yo was asleep about 8.30pm - nearly caught us frantically wrapping their presents but DH headed her off at the stairs.
We've half-arsed the wrapping by using Amazon gift bags (better for the environment & quicker too!).
Toblerone fudge left for Santa DH this year Grin

Beanbagtrap · 24/12/2022 21:16

I think the 3yo is asleep! 8yo definitely still awake though. Might have to have a coffee to get through this.

WimbyAce · 24/12/2022 21:16

2 year old is asleep as normal. 7 year old watching a film with us then hopefully will go to sleep quickly as I'm tired!
