Anyone else have a child clearly struggling to sleep with the excitement?

DS is 5 and just wide awake still (usually asleep by 6.30pm).

6yo and 10yo still up, we haven't even tried bed yet. Watching Home Alone 2 with them in the hope it unwinds them enough for an early bedtime...

LBOCS2 · 24/12/2022 21:17

*easy, bit early; it's almost 9.30!

LillyLeaf · 24/12/2022 21:18

DS 2.5 years, rolling around in bed, singing, clapping, asking where his batteries are in his head that makes his head wiggle?! Wouldn't nap today then fall asleep on me at 5.30pm so this was always going to happen. I'm shattered and hungry and would love a cup of tea. Please go to sleep.

I think the 5 year old has gone but the 9 year old is still shouting “night!” Every 5 mins.

I love the thought of all these little ones everywhere, so excited that they can’t get to sleep. It’s so heart warming.

Heyheyitsanotherday · 24/12/2022 21:20

It’s super heart warming and so lovely to hear of all the excited little ones. My 6yo is trying desperately to sleep but can hear her tossing and turning. I want my cheese board!!! 😂

LongLostTeacher · 24/12/2022 21:21

4yo is asleep.

8yo will be off soon.

10yo is very much awake and on excitement wee number 7. Previous excitement wee record is 23, so we could be here for a while. 🤣

chewys · 24/12/2022 21:21

I think DS may have eventually fallen asleep now but still have a bit of fear that he's pretending so putting off getting everything out yet Grin

I asked my 6yr old what time he was planning on waking up tomorrow. He said 2am! Said er..no. 5am? Again no. Then settled on 7am, which I thought was a bit more reasonable!

He's only just gone to bed now (still awake though) Even when I said, well if you plan on waking up early, you need to go to bed early. He didn't like that statement 😂

trilbydoll · 24/12/2022 21:22

9 and 7 here and trying SO HARD to go to sleep. It is a logistical nightmare for FC, his sleigh is stacked in order and if you miss your slot he is unlikely to have time to come back. Obviously he is magic and they have been very good this year, but it's not a risk worth taking 😉

sparkiesparkle · 24/12/2022 21:22

My youngest is doing a tour of the house every half hour or so. Teens are downstairs watching Christmas movies. And judging me for drinking.

DownInTheDumpster · 24/12/2022 21:22

Ah it’s lovely really that they’re so excited! Ours (5 and nearly 3) have been beside themselves all day (very much a day of highs and lows..!) but a loooong walk for a meal out and back and they both passed out not long after their usual time. I’m glad as I was flagging too although now I’m worried I’ll be too excited to sleep instead Grin

ofwarren · 24/12/2022 21:22

8 year old went straight to sleep. 6 year old is still awake and crying because he can't sleep 🙄
It's going to be a long night.

Phos · 24/12/2022 21:24

What universe is this where a 5yo is asleep by 6:30?

Mine is rarely asleep before 8 anyway - the good thing is during holidays she also sleeps late, teenage before her time I think.

chewys · 24/12/2022 21:24

@Phos I didn't realise it was abnormal! He tends to sleep between 6.30-7.30 to be fair and will wake at between 6.30-7.30 too!

4 year old had absolutely no issues falling asleep under the threat of Santa not leaving presents for him if he doesn't go to sleep.

10 year old almost certainly doesn't believe but will not admit it and she's still wide awake reading!

tillyandmilly · 24/12/2022 21:26

That’s a bit early 6.30pm for a 5 year old? Poor kid!

WimbyAce · 24/12/2022 21:26

Santa told mine she can't get up until 9 so she compromised with us for 8 😄 Happy days 🎅

3yo finally gave in the battle about 15 mins ago.

Think my 3yo has just nodded off but wouldn't like to say for sure! He's going to be knackered tomorrow bless him

Daisychainsandglitter · 24/12/2022 21:28

My 8 and 5 year olds went to sleep at 8 like a dream. Like PP's we've had Santa doesn't come to children who don't go to sleep on repeat all week and it appears to have worked.
I have a feeling it will be an early start tomorrow morning though.

Baublesandtinsel · 24/12/2022 21:28

Mine snoring away told her if your not asleep when santa comes you wont get your presents as he doesn't have time to come back once you are asleep worked a treat.

DinosApple · 24/12/2022 21:29

Mine have just had a face pack and informed me their alarm is set for 2.30. They are 12 & 13 though and sharing a room tonight through choice. Sleep probably won't descend until half 1 🙈.

Billyhargrovesmullet · 24/12/2022 21:29

I remember that well hope she goes off soon! 3 teens here (1 still believes as he has learning difficulties & I love he still does!) and an 11 year old who doesn’t believe this year and I thought I’d be disappointed she doesn’t but the believer goes to sleep soon as his head hits the pillow so I’m feeling relieved the pressure of putting all the presents downstairs without anyone hearing is gone!!

Notanotherone6 · 24/12/2022 21:29

6:30? Bloody hell. No wonder the poor child doesn't want to sleep. He spends most of his life in bed!! My 3 and 5 year olds are still up, and would normally still be up at this time when they don't have school the next day.

redredwineub40 · 24/12/2022 21:30

Wiggly 8 year old here, not looking like she's going anytime soon...

purpledalmation · 24/12/2022 21:32

Haha! So familiar. Waiting for them to stop pretending and actually sleep!
