Anyone else have a child clearly struggling to sleep with the excitement?

DS is 5 and just wide awake still (usually asleep by 6.30pm).

I’ve been Googling how much caffeine is in Coke Zero. DD1 (8) had a can earlier today from her grandparents and is literally just about asleep now.

She was panicking that she wouldn’t be able to sleep in time for Santa to come god love her. However I seem to remember the same craic last year minus the coke so I think it’s more excitement than caffeine🙈

This is where the Santa Tracker (NORAD or Google versions available online) are wonderful. Tell the child(ren) that Santa is near and they have to be asleep for him to visit. Show them where he is on the map.
Lights out.
Leave them to get to sleep.

Genius!

DS1 (10) was out like a light about 9 (an hour past his usual time as he’s an ultimate lark who is up and doing by 5:30, thank heavens he’s now self entertaining). DS2 (6) was still awake 15 minutes ago…

The 15 year old had just asked if he can sit downstairs with us which never ever happens so obviously didn't say no but even though he is obviously a non believer I dont feel like I can put his present under the tree while he is there. And I'm so tired. Why couldn't he want to sit with us at 7 not bloomin 11 at night.

WimbyAce · 24/12/2022 23:16

Just checked on mine and she says she's too excited to sleep 😑 Luckily everything is wrapped so may just have to bring it in quietly.

IndeedDanielJackson · 24/12/2022 23:24

Dd2 (9) is sleeping thankfully. Dd1 (14) just took herself off to bed. Ds1 (19) and ds2 (17) have agreed to go to bed before midnight and we will all pretend they believe so they can have their stockings still!! At this point we are all doing this largely for the 9 year olds benefit 😀

LunaLoveFood · 24/12/2022 23:40

Ds2 had just dropped off, I remembered I needed to put the ham into the fridge as it had finally cooled down enough and I dropped the fucking pan on the floor with an almighty crash...now everyone is awake! I am kicking myself!

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 24/12/2022 23:43

And this is why I love teens, FC has already been and filled the stockings!

FortSalem86 · 24/12/2022 23:49

That is quite an earlybedtime for a 5 year old. Mine isn't asleep normally until nearly 8!

Bemyclementine · 25/12/2022 00:05

Theyre asleep and I've done rhe wrapping. Bloody hell.

TheHappiestChristmasTree · 25/12/2022 00:24

My 3 year old is in bed with us now. Luckily we have sorted the presents!

WimbyAce · 25/12/2022 01:09

Mine is still awake and crying that she won't get a present as she can't sleep! We have had to crack on with putting it all out as we need sleep!

vinoandbrie · 25/12/2022 01:23

I’ve now put it all out, she fell asleep about half past midnight and I’m just getting (back) into bed now. What a palaver, my husband has done precisely nothing. I want it to be Boxing Day to be honest. Lots of cooking for me to do tomorrow (later today really). I feel properly unseen, making everything nice for everyone else. Rant over, Merry Christmas all!

WimbyAce · 25/12/2022 08:47

No idea what time mine went to sleep! Other half snuck the stockings in at silly o'clock. Still in bed now!
