Anyone else have a child clearly struggling to sleep with the excitement?

DS is 5 and just wide awake still (usually asleep by 6.30pm).

DD7 was up around 6 as we were ordering Chinese. However took DH an hour to get through they were so busy. So DD decided to go bed instead of the prawn crackers she asked for as she wanted Xmas to come quick. Fell asleep for an hour snoring her head off then woke up when Chinese arrived. She was then in my room eating with me. She's back fast asleep now. She's been so excited today but shattered this evening.

Pinkflipflop85 · 24/12/2022 21:33

We've headed up to bed.

8 is tossing and turning like crazy and talking like mad.

3 keeps telling him to shush because santa needs to come right now!

Ellaone · 24/12/2022 21:34

4 & 7 yr olds here.
The excuses from our 4yo as to why she’s up again are great. Firstly She thought she saw Santa. 20 mins later she is sure she heard a crash on the roof. I’ve just been informed by her, that her bed is so uncomfortable ( it’s been fine for the last two years) and she’d sleep much better in her sleeping bag next to the Christmas tree - long night for me 😬

My 11 yo has just gone up but he's so excited I can't see him falling asleep just yet. I need to get his gifts out though. Hopefully it won't be too long!

Goingforplatinum · 24/12/2022 21:35

2 year old went down at 5.50, would be wonderful but I've got a hacking cough so will probably be up half the night.

Garman · 24/12/2022 21:36

Wow, my son is 5 and will easily be awake until 10pm if he’s let. If he was asleep by 6.30 he’d be up by 5am

MassiveSalad22 · 24/12/2022 21:37

7 year old usually the most tricky one to get down but he lay straight down at 7 and pretended to be asleep until he was 😄 he’s soooo excited. 5 year old lay in bed wide awake for ages with a giant smile on his face 😄 DD is 8 months so no clue what is going on. We will be up at 5 no doubt 😄

usernotfound0000 · 24/12/2022 21:37

Yep! DD is 7 and usually asleep by 8 at the latest and is still laid in bed wide awake! We're normally just going to bed now ourselves.

Strokethefurrywall · 24/12/2022 21:40

5 hours behind UK here (Caribbean) and we're about to drag kids out for a walk on the beach and then drug them whilst watching polar express.

11 year old doesn't believe but 8 year old is concocting a trap for Santa which, if I'm honest, may get the better of me later because I'm already tipsy.

BrewandBiscuit · 24/12/2022 21:40

4 year old went up at 8 (normally asleep by 7), went into the bathroom and projectile vomited all over me and the entire bathroom. We were all cleaned up and re showered and in bed by 9.
just hoping it’s a one off and not a bug!!!

Bemyclementine · 24/12/2022 21:44

5 and 7 in bed but still awake , and I haven't done the wrapping.

ListenLinda · 24/12/2022 21:49

5 yo and 3 yo went up to brush teeth at 7.50pm, into bed for 8. 3yo straight off, 5 yo was out of bed 3 times.
Just sent DH up to check if she is asleep so we can do the present sneak and she was.
I think it will be an early one though!
she tried to get up at 2am other day, she has been told in no uncertain terms she is not to get up before 6am and to not go downstairs without us!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/12/2022 21:50

This I'd the year that my (pre)teens (11,14) will put out stockings, but receive pillowcases (already filled).

icebearforpresident · 24/12/2022 21:52

8 & 7 year olds are still bouncing around. Everything is done. Literally just need them to fall asleep so everything can be put around the tree. Calling them down in about 10 minutes to get the milk & cookies and go to the toilet then into bed.

On the plus side they won’t wake until at least 7.30am tomorrow morning and I would rather a late Xmas eve than an early Xmas morning.

BogRollBOGOF · 24/12/2022 21:52

Mine are 12 & 9. I can't remember which year it was (8&5?) when one couldn't sleep until past 1am and the other was up at 5am. That was a tough combination!

chewys · 24/12/2022 21:56

Hahaha well I didn't expect the shitty comments about my kids bedtime 😂 as I've said, he usually goes to sleep around 6.30pm, sometimes around 7pm. He's never forced, he likes going to bed, and he gets the recommended hours each night. Some of you are way too desperate to shove your opinions in everywhere. 'Poor child' for what his bedtime hours are Confused

Same here! Just go to sleep DC!

Pickingmyselfup · 24/12/2022 22:01

All appears well here! 5 year old definitely asleep and the 7 year old also seems to be fast asleep so I took the risk and filled their stockings. I don't want to be late to bed and as it's already 10 I'm not messing around.

Itsokay2020 · 24/12/2022 22:01

Accept it as a sign of success that you created Christmas magic!! My teen is absolutely bouncing off the walls with excitement, she no longer believes but is now my best little helper! I am under strict instructions to text her if I wake during the night to see if she’s awake… I have had the god awful cough for 20 days (I’m not counting!) so it’s highly likely!

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 24/12/2022 22:05

Our elf brought a magic bathbomb last night

Straight from the North Pole with magic sleeping powers.

Had to get out of the bath because it was working and he needed to go to bed 😂

Suggestion is a powerful tool

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/12/2022 22:06

My 23yo went to the gym for most of the morning , watched "Wednesday" (Adams Family ) , scoffed his dinner and is now mooching about because he thinks I haven't bought him a present
I haven't 'bought' him anything, he;s getting a money transfer at midnight , he always asks for money instead of "things"

He'll be awake for hours no doubt .

DD(20yo) didn't wander downstairs till 10.30am this morning so who knows when she'll sleep.

Me- I;m off to bed very soon Xmas Grin

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 24/12/2022 22:07

Take him outside to look for Santa in the sky, my mum used to do this with me. The cool night air helps to lower their temp so they can settle into a cosy bed

sparkiesparkle · 24/12/2022 22:09

I've eaten santas cookies and the reindeers cakes. I've drank the elves wine, and eaten all of Rudolph's special sweets.

RobinRobinMouse · 24/12/2022 22:11

Don't worry @chewys , dd is 4.5 and her bedtime is between 6:30 and 7. She sleeps straight through and is grumpy otherwise so it seems like she needs it.

Tonight she was actually only 10 minutes later than normal, she pretended to be asleep then accidentally really fell asleep!

Ylvamoon · 24/12/2022 22:12

Mine are teens so hiding in their bedrooms and not coming out!

But when they were little, we used to take them on a midnight walk at around 8pm and then have a hot chocolate and bed. As everyone knows, Santa only comes when children are asleep...
