Anyone else have a child clearly struggling to sleep with the excitement?

DS is 5 and just wide awake still (usually asleep by 6.30pm).

I'm glad it's not just me.

I really really hate the stress of overexcited children who won't sleep. I don't think it's cute or sweet or magical I think it's really really really fucking annoying. I want a proper night's sleep so I have a decent day.

We had one Christmas when eldest was 7 when he did not sleep all night. Not a wink. It was the most horrible Christmas I have ever had.

8 year old is fast asleep. 3 year old wants to stay up to feed the reindeer and still going strong 3 hours past her bedtime

MrsT84 · 24/12/2022 22:20

8 month old will not settle... 8 year old appears to be asleep in his room, but so is DH who seems to have fallen asleep putting 8 year old to bed! He's meant to be showering and helping me play Santa! Still got bits to wrap, and bits to do in the kitchen and myself to shower yet... It's going to be a long night!

I'm sitting here waiting for 9 yr old to go to sleep... his 19 yr old brother has been a godsend and being v quiet 🤫 I'm going to put out all the presents and stockings in a minute

declutteringmymind · 24/12/2022 22:24

Mine (12 and 9) are currently waiting up to catch us out filling their stocking. My mum heard them plotting earlier.

I've set my alarm for 4:30am. Wish me luck - my my has the creakiest house ever.

Montague22 · 24/12/2022 22:26

Age 5 still awake.
9 and 12 still awake, but that’s slightly more acceptable.
I would love to go to bed.

Kanaloa · 24/12/2022 22:27

He’s usually asleep by half past six? I mean to be fair that’s so early, it’s basically dinner time. If this is a one off I’d thank my lucky stars - what time is he usually up?

DownInTheDumpster · 24/12/2022 22:28

You poor things! My brother was the same- never slept on Christmas Eve even as a teen!

Strawberry0909 · 24/12/2022 22:32

Was expecting ds 4 to be up for ages but went up at 8:30 and for the first time ever didn't want one of us to sit with him whilst he fell asleep

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 24/12/2022 22:32

My other tip is to tell the kids that FC won’t come if they are awake but they could pretend - lie in bed still with eyes closed - hopefully they will fall asleep

Shutupyoutart · 24/12/2022 22:37

I smiled when I read your title op cos Ive said that several times in my head and maybe once or twice under my breath tonight lol. Two littlest ones were full of beans going to sleep took ages to settle, asleep now thankfully just the eldest awake In her room

chewys · 24/12/2022 21:56

Hahaha well I didn't expect the shitty comments about my kids bedtime 😂 as I've said, he usually goes to sleep around 6.30pm, sometimes around 7pm. He's never forced, he likes going to bed, and he gets the recommended hours each night. Some of you are way too desperate to shove your opinions in everywhere. 'Poor child' for what his bedtime hours are Confused

Yeah. It almost like some people can't get there head around other peoples children being different from their own.

BrownJenkins · 24/12/2022 22:43

OP, your 5 year old goes to bed at the right time. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
Merry Christmas.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 24/12/2022 22:44

My 8yo is still awake......I so want to go to bed sob

vinoandbrie · 24/12/2022 22:46

My eight year old is not yet asleep. I am literally in the bed with her trying to settle her. She is autistic. Her father has gone to bed when he could be downstairs putting presents under the tree. I hate him right now. I’ll still be up for ages and he’s snoring away.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 24/12/2022 22:49

Seven year old here still bloody awake. I want to go and open the port and chat to my dad and best mate and do the stockings!

WimbyAce · 24/12/2022 22:51

Mime is still awake too. I'm normally tucked up by 1030 😮‍💨

Logicalreasoning · 24/12/2022 22:53

Mine went to bed at 9, waiting for a bit longer just Tao make sure they are in a deep sleep... although dd has a cough and has done nothing but non stop wee the last 3 days, hoping she doesn’t come out whilst I’m knee deep in presents 🤭

WimbyAce · 24/12/2022 22:53

To be fair anything beats the Christmas Eve we spent at an emergency clinic with DD and not getting back til 2am Christmas Day still with wrapping to do 😬

LunaLoveFood · 24/12/2022 22:54

10 year old fast asleep by 9pm. 9 Yr old still wide awake, pretending to be asleep even after 3 hours of charging around the park today. I'm so tired trying not to fall asleep. Dh is downstairs sorting presents while I'm on guard duty.

qazxc · 24/12/2022 22:54

Poked head round door to check all clear gorgeous stocking stuffing. Little head immediately sprang off pillow "Santa?".

Eggsley · 24/12/2022 22:56

11yo is asleep. 6yo still awake, has been downstairs once but was intercepted in the hall before he made it into the living room. Good job, as the presents have been put out already. I had plans to watch a film and drink baileys but I'm having a cup of tea and going to bed shortly.

LaurelGrove · 24/12/2022 22:56

I remember one hideous year. First year post divorce, recovering from flu. Small children. One was awake until 3am. I whipped in to their rooms, switched the stockings and went to bed. Ten minutes later the other two arrived shrieking excitedly that Father Christmas had been. And that was the start of the day.

Tomorrow they are all under strict instructions to be up by 10 so they are ungrumpified by the time their grandparents arrive. Times change.

mummabear2023 · 24/12/2022 23:00

Thought I was doing well tonight 3yo was in bed asleep for 7pm, just got into bed and she's up with a raging temperature complaining of a sore head, I am praying after some nurofen she'll be right as rain! ☹️ merry Christmas to us
