Just that really. Do you have a special meal on Christmas Eve or standard 'everyday' food? What are you having this year? Looking for inspiration Smile

Probably a "picky tea" , a right mixture of all our favourites.

AdelaideLane · 20/12/2022 22:37

Butcher made steak pie and homemade mushy peas!

jocktamsonsbairn · 20/12/2022 22:38

We usually do T bone steaks but DS will be out and DD wants Chinese...

We are having a full english breakfast as my mum usually comes to us Christmas morning for one but can’t this year so we’re making it for her when she’s round Christmas Eve.

SisyphusDad · 20/12/2022 22:45

Spice-crusted steak with whisky sauce. Easy, quick, knock-out taste. I can do it with my eyes closed and the DSs get to set fire to the whisky, sending flames up to the ceiling 🔥!

Whipmuncher · 20/12/2022 22:46

Massive cheeseboard, warm baguettes, pickles and ham. With red wine and then chocolate panettone.

Yarrawonga · 20/12/2022 22:47

I hadn’t really thought about it until now but I fancy something south east asian for the evening meal. No takeaways near here so my husband is going to be busy.

Blendandmix · 20/12/2022 22:50

We usually order a Chinese but we've got a ding dong ding sun subscription which was a Xmas present from last year so have ordered from
There

Always something with home fried chips because I can remember my mum doing chips one year and it was just a wonderful Christmas.

When we was just us, it was filet steak and all the bits. After children it became bangers, chips, egg and beans.

Now they are older we will prob revert back to steak when they are ready which isnt this year because I asked earlier whet they wanted and it was sausage again..

bad editing sorry I do know grammar

afaloren · 20/12/2022 23:07

Picnic in the living room. Always pork pie and silver skin pickled onions.

MissPoldark · 20/12/2022 23:14

another party tea here. Just seems to have become a Christmas Eve tradition.

Dobbycraft · 20/12/2022 23:15

Roasted joint of ham, nice breads, pate, prawn and egg salad

mrsbyers · 20/12/2022 23:19

Steak and thrice cooked chips with peas and peppercorn sauce , hubby sorting it for me and mam while we are at church christingle thing

soupmaker · 20/12/2022 23:34

We made a tradition of going out to the cinema or theatre on Christmas Eve. So lunch at our favourite pizza joint, cinema, then home for a tea of cured meats, cheese, and olives.

JulesJules · 20/12/2022 23:37

Fish pie and green beans, and something veggie for me, probably harissa roast veg with couscous

MrsMiddleMother · 20/12/2022 23:43

We're going out for Italian this year on Christmas eve

808Kate1 · 20/12/2022 23:45

@MontageOfHeck Would love to hear more about your soup - do you have a good recipe? And do you use pre-packed chestnuts or roast and peel them yourself?

Logicalreasoning · 20/12/2022 23:45

Chinese takeaway... no chance I’m throwing a meal together after all the prep I’ll be doing that day and all the cooking the next day. Been having Chinese the last 17 years.

Amybelle88 · 20/12/2022 23:55

We always have a picky dim sum but I'm thinking of changing it up this year. Things have been hectic this last week so I really just want a nice meal with some nice veg! I'm thinking salmon en croute with new potatoes, carrots and tenderstem after taking the kids to the pics in the day.

We were going out to a smokehouse but I really can't be arsed, nice relax in a recliner watching Matilda followed by something nice to eat for tea sounds like bliss 😍😍😍

BabyFour2023 · 20/12/2022 23:56

We always have a Chinese on Christmas Eve.

pizzaHeart · 21/12/2022 00:10

@LimeSupper it’s my plan too, with homemade bread and lots of butter. I’ve got smoked salmon already.
the other possible option is fresh pasta with smoked salmon, avocado and Italian style salad.

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 21/12/2022 00:14

I've realised that I don't want a big rich meal on Christmas Eve as it impacts my enjoyment of dinner on Christmas Day.

This year we're trying a new Christmas Eve meal: baked seabass, new potatoes, green veg, roasted tomatoes.

Pudding will be fruit and/or mince pies.

ShaunaTheSheep · 21/12/2022 00:18

Crispy duck
Maybe some other Chinese dishes from the supermarket.
