Just that really. Do you have a special meal on Christmas Eve or standard 'everyday' food? What are you having this year? Looking for inspiration Smile

For us we normally do a bit of a party tea - lots of nice things we all like - Pringles, sausage rolls, fresh strawberries etc for the kids, fresh bread, cheese, pickles, ham etc for us.

H1Drangea · 20/12/2022 21:03

We’re having lasagne ( I’ve already made it , it’s in the freezer ) with garlic bread and salad

Baconand · 20/12/2022 21:03

Homemade pizzas I think this year, DD enjoys making them (she is 3) and she will need keeping busy!!

We used to get pissed and have a huge selection of party food before she was born.

I’d really like nice steak frites too but I can’t be arsed to cook it and pizza is cheaper.

I’d love a Chinese but live too rurally sadly!

Christmas Dinner for us too!
Christmas day much more laid back for our young kids that way, we eat aaaallll the leftovers and treats and people can eat as/ when they want. Might switch it back when they're older, but it works for us.

Allthingsbrightandugly · 20/12/2022 21:05

6 people and enough party food and snacks to feed the neighbourhood 😂

YewandOak · 20/12/2022 21:06

I'll be at work over dinner time,so nothing probably.I'll stop off at Tesco on the way home and see what takes my fancy for tea.

SuffolkUnicorn · 20/12/2022 21:07

son and partner having dominos I don’t eat that so will get some party food from sainsburys or m&s

MsSquiz · 20/12/2022 21:07

Toddler dd with probably have a picnic tea and DH and I will have party food once the girls are in bed. Easy just to pop in the oven after bath and bed time and we always make sure everything is done, other than putting the presents out

Newnamefor2021 · 20/12/2022 21:08

Christmas dinner this year for us and our Christmas Day will be more chilled out. Never done it before as my husband is usually working.

inappropriateraspberry · 20/12/2022 21:09

This is interesting! I think OP means dinner as in evening meal, but many are reading it as lunch.

JanesLittleGirl · 20/12/2022 21:10

Lancashire hotpot with pickled red cabbage. Hotpot in the oven just before we go to Mass and it is ready to eat when we get home.

HaggisWurst · 20/12/2022 21:10

DS is 2 and a half and loves lasagne, so I'm just doing that with some garlic bread!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 20/12/2022 21:11

Ham cooked in the slow cooker, mash potato and pickles/beetroot. We have it every year.

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/12/2022 21:11

Party food buffet

Ragwort · 20/12/2022 21:13

We've nearly always had a baked ham (evening meal) .... my mother used to do it, then I did when I hosted and this year we are going to my brother's .... I asked him what he was cooking ..l and he said baked ham Grin. It's quite straight forward. .. served with jacket potatoes and peas .. with plenty of leftovers for the next couple of days.
A Chinese sounds nice but we don't really have any good takeaways near us.

LimeSupper · 20/12/2022 21:14

Cheeseboard and usually cook a few pigs in blankets to have with mustard too.

Greatly · 20/12/2022 21:15

Venison sausage casserole and mash.

Softpebbles · 20/12/2022 21:15

Fish finger sandwiches! Easy, everyone’s happy!

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 20/12/2022 21:15

Pizza. No cooking, no dishes.

LimeSupper · 20/12/2022 21:16

Oh I read that wrong, we have the chessboard Christmas night.

Christmas Eve we have smoked salmon and eggs. Really light!

LeopardPrintHo · 20/12/2022 21:17

Fish pie or a dirty kebab depending how long I've been in pub

Wolfcub · 20/12/2022 21:19

Steak, chips, salad, scallops and black pudding

1ittlegreen · 20/12/2022 21:20

We have brodo (thin broth) with veal ravioli, gulyas, mushroom stew with semmel knodel (bread dumplings), chocolate salami and pfeffernuss biscuits (dp is half German, half Italian). We always finish with a shed load of Italian cheeses and Baileys then feel sick.

lessthanathirdofanacre · 20/12/2022 21:21

We will have a selection of starters, followed by Italian sausage and tortellini soup (a family favourite), then crispy chicken. I may stop eating after the soup TBH, because I actually prefer the starters and soup to the main course.

Eyesopenwideawake · 20/12/2022 21:25

DP cooks duck a la orange with an insanely complicated sauce which tastes rather exactly like the one I make with marmalade and stock!
