Stupidly difficult work quiz

Seasons greetings!

The stupidly difficult work quiz is back for those of you that remember (@rosegoldwatcher).

Basically there are a series of very hard puzzles to solve - each puzzle solve gives you a password to move onto the next stage.

I've already managed to solve stage one myself (go me!) but I've ground to a halt as usual on the second stage (which consists of 8 individual puzzles to solve).

Here's a couple of puzzles i'm stuck on - any help much appreciated!

For the rainbow one, working out what 's' stands for is clearly key. I bring this not hugely helpful comment to the thread without being able to work out what on earth it is.

Is the Rainbow one something to do with the Olympic Rings?

Could the rainbow be anything to do with sexuality?

The first thing I thought with the stripes one was white stripes so counting up all the numbers on the white ones

Probably wrong but are the relevant numbers to do with these 2 "flags" highlighted

Could the rainbow one relate to weather warnings? It matches the colours so S could be Severe.
Green would be No but I can't make the rest of the letters fit!

That's very kind of you(!), but not really - it's just what randomly pops up in the old brain!

At any rate, geography is generally more 'clever' as a subject than board games!!
