Coke on nights out

I don't know if my life has been a bit sheltered but is it quite common for people to have coke on nights out/house parties?

They're all in their 40's, successful, have dc etc.

I'm quite shocked tbh, I thought it wouldn't be a thing anymore and it's tainted what was a good night up to the point I realised what most were disappearing off to do. I don't want to be around it.

My thoughts are possibly clouded due to a family member who had a drugs problem. Maybe it's not the massive deal, that I'm thinking it is.

Not with the people i go out with.

But i do know others that do

Newusernameaug · 11/12/2022 19:50

As an ex coke addict myself - it is a big deal, they will make out like everyone does it, and everyone they socialise with will do it, but there’s one toy of people out there who wouldn’t think of it.

I won’t be friends with anyone who does coke or thinks that normal (anymore)

Aquamarine1029 · 11/12/2022 19:50

I wouldn't spend time with people who do coke. Total deal breaker for me.

roarfeckingroarr · 11/12/2022 19:51

It's common, yes. More so in some places than others. In London, especially nice bits, it's everywhere.

Squeakyegg22 · 11/12/2022 19:51

I do think it's not that unusual, yes. And when people say none of their friends/people they associate do it - well I'd say that's being naive. A lot of people are just good at hiding it! I've worked with people you would never suspect of doing it but they do.

MolesOnPoles · 11/12/2022 19:52

I know people who do, and they’re all dicks.

mondaytosunday · 11/12/2022 19:52

Not in my crowd. I was in publishing in the 80s and 90s never saw it then either.

Emberness · 11/12/2022 19:52

Deal breaker for me. Destruction all the way along

LizzieSiddal · 11/12/2022 19:53

I’d ask them if they understood the horror which is caused in the making and distribution of this drug.

Then I’d go home.

PollyAmour · 11/12/2022 19:53

No it's not normal and you would be wise to distance yourself from these people.

Mañanarama · 11/12/2022 19:53

More people do it than you think, with their other friends / colleagues.

Murasakispillowbook · 11/12/2022 19:53

It seems very common.

Not my bag any more. I grew into an adult. 🤷🏻‍♀️

pinkstripeycat · 11/12/2022 19:55

None of my friends do it. I wouldn’t like it either

MajorCarolDanvers · 11/12/2022 19:55

I'm sure it's common among some circles but I've never come across it

Dartmoorcheffy · 11/12/2022 19:55

It's very usual.

WunWun · 11/12/2022 19:55

I think there are people who have problems or will develop them, but there are some people who just do it occasionally and have otherwise normal lives.

Do you not want to be around it because of how they act on it? Or just don't want to be around drugs in general? Either is fair enough. Although I suppose it means finding different friends or hanging around with others.

Claudia84 · 11/12/2022 19:56

Not at 40 no.
I'm stunned looking back at what I used to get up to.
I'd be terrified to do it now! And I'd probably need at least a week to get over the late night.

Sarahcoggles · 11/12/2022 19:56

I went to a university reunion in the summer - we're all medics - had a pleasant evening in a restaurant. I was horrified to learn afterwards that loads of people were taking coke in the toilets. I had no idea.
Personally I think it's a bit pathetic when proper adults with jobs and kids and responsibilities take recreational drugs. Time to grow up really. And especially shocking when it's doctors doing it.

MumtoBR · 11/12/2022 19:56

Not amongst my friends.

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 11/12/2022 19:57

Really normal, I don't associate with people who do it. They all tend to be massive dickheads.

Climbles · 11/12/2022 19:58

Not often these days (in our 40’s)
there was quite a bit of it in our 20’s and 30’s. Lots of people take a bit of coke on a night out and it isn’t a big deal. For some people it ruins their life.

Climbles · 11/12/2022 19:59

Also it’s shit and a total waste of money so even if it doesn’t ruin your life you’re still a muppet for doing it.

AngelontopoftheTree · 11/12/2022 19:59

Not anywhere in my friendship groups. But maybe in naive 🤔

FairyLightAddict · 11/12/2022 19:59

I'm from North London and nearly everyone I know does it (mixed bag of professions). I don't.

DramaAlpaca · 11/12/2022 20:01

It doesn't happen in my circles. I wouldn't want to mix with people who do.
