And at what point do you put the heating on?
Feels like I’ve run up a small fortune on my gas this week, trying to encourage everyone to wear jumpers, fluffy socks etc but still nippy!

DH decided now would a good time of the day to drain the radiators, so currently about 15. I need to keep it at 18 to maintain any semblance of comfort so if it dips below that, it's coming on. However my personal preference is 20 because at 18, it just doesn't feel warm enough. I'm compromising..it's thoroughly depressing stalking the thermostat and smart meter all day!

MissyB1 · 11/12/2022 17:43

Our heating is on full blast, thermostat says 17.5 our house is bloody difficult to heat up 🙄

NotMyDayJob · 11/12/2022 17:44

In OHs office (which has a smart themostat thingy on the radiator and we don't bother to heat it at weekends) it's 14.5. the rest of the downstairs is 16.6, upstairs is 18.3. heating kicks in at 1830 🥶

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 11/12/2022 17:44

16.3

Spliffle · 11/12/2022 17:45

7C but I'm perfectly content having just eaten a roast dinner. I'll put it on about 7pm

Aramox · 11/12/2022 17:46
  1. Heating been on at full blast since 7:30. 17-18 is my ideal but condensing boiler struggles at low temperatures.
SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 11/12/2022 17:46

Why do we see a new version of this thread every day or so?

Yes. It's cold. It's winter. Fuel is expensive. Some are struggling. Some are just cutting back.

Spliffle · 11/12/2022 17:46

& yes, that's not a typo, it's 7 degrees, I dress well

Jellykat · 11/12/2022 17:48

Bloody freezing, no mains gas or central heating here, my bedroom is 9, and i can see my breath in every room.. i've been in tears most of the day, as my road is totally iced up so i cant even get to work tomorrow to warm up.

Chicca1970 · 11/12/2022 17:49

11.5 in hallway - probably about 14/15 in living room and 14 upstairs. The heating is only on for an hour in the morning and 2 hours in the evening with the temp set at 18 - kind of used to it - dressing gowns on over clothes and house stays warm for quite a while after heating has been on for an hour or so.

Rosie22xx · 11/12/2022 17:50

In the mornings my thermostat gets to 10 degrees and its horrible. This winter is grim. Trying not to use the heating so much, my bill racked up so high last month for 4 hours a day use. Trying just 2 hours a say now, 1 hour in morning, 1 hour before bed. And wrap up warm plus hot water bottle saves the day. But it's still grim to think this is how we are having to live this winter.

TiAmoTiAmo · 11/12/2022 17:53

21c horribly hot ugh but dh loves it hot. He's wearing thermals and fleece and still likes it hot. Normally I have it on 18. he also cooked us a roast so hot oven as well.... hate heat.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 11/12/2022 17:54

Just checked the thermostat and its 17, heating not on. We are a first floor flat so benefit from the heat rising from downstairs.

One room gets very cold as it's an end terrace but we have a Dyson hot & cool fan in there.

birdsandthewasps · 11/12/2022 17:55

21 but I’m ill, usually 19/20

RavenT · 11/12/2022 17:57

18, had heating on since 7am and set thermostat to 18. It will go off at 7.

Heating is on, set to 13, thermostat in the hall. Sitting room gets up to 16 with the door shut.

KatnissNeverdone · 11/12/2022 18:00

16.8. Thermostat is set to 18 but it's not reached that all day.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 11/12/2022 18:00

Thermostat is set for 19 degrees, it’s in the hall.

The front room is a bit cooler than that.

The kitchen / dining room a bit warmer as the oven is on at the moment.

All curtains have been closed since mid afternoon, that makes a real difference.

BooksAndHooks · 11/12/2022 18:01

We had it on 16 but it was coming on too much so it’s been on 15 last few days.

Athenen0ctua · 11/12/2022 18:02

It's timed to be on 5:30 to 7:30 but I've manually put it on in the day when we have been home this weekend. Hate to think of what that will cost me but it would have dropped to single digits otherwise. In the week I don't heat in the morning.

blueflagflyhigh · 11/12/2022 18:22

It's 19 feels warm enough now but just letting it go to 20 or above before turning it off for the evening.

It has taken most of the day to get to that temperature after being 13.5 this morning when we got up 😮 think we will need to put it back on timer so that it comes on during the night if it dips below 16. It's too bloody cold for hours and hours in the morning just now as the barely above freezing all day.

wonkylegs · 11/12/2022 18:26

Our house is on smart thermostats and is technically never 'off'
Rooms are heated to different temperatures depending on what time / day it is to match usage and can be boosted if necessary.
One of my kids is always hot so tends set his room at 10degrees, the other one is colder so is set for 21degrees however due to the differing ages the time they come on is timed so it's warm for getting changed later for the older one. Same for bathrooms, they heat up for showers/ baths but are cooler the rest of the day.
Whole house is frost protected so if it drops below a certain temp it gets a little boost (conservatory is just on frost protection at this time of year as we don't use it)
Snap shot of some of our rooms right now ...
it's very clever and due to the way we use our house/type of house it was worth doing, won't be worth it for all houses though.

What temperature is your house right now?
caringcarer · 11/12/2022 18:30

21.5 we are all warm and toasty.

Parky04 · 11/12/2022 18:30

It was down to 8 earlier! Heating been on for the past couple of hours and it's lovely!

Hmmph · 11/12/2022 18:32

Currently somewhere around 11.4 and 12.7 according to the two thermometers. The heating is on, but it struggles to heat up and we are worried about bills. I am wearing 2 jumpers and sitting next to radiator.
