Comments on news reports are saying that five children/young teens have gone through ice into a lake and are in a critical condition.

Really hope that all involved make a full recovery

Oh, I've just seen the update. 3 boys couldn't be saved. One is still in critical condition. No word on the other 2 but divers are still there. What a tragedy.

Mentallycollapsed · 12/12/2022 11:25

Their poor families. Thoughts are with the school too, they're going to need a lot of support as they navigate their pupils through this.

Just coming on to say three have died, but I see it's already on here. The BBC news presenter nearly lost it RIP to the boys and what on earth can you say to the families?

Seeing the presenter battling to hold tears back actually really got me. Must be so hard to keep it together when they have only just heard themselves and are on live TV.

So sad, and I have a bad feeling some of the children will be siblings.

I had words to an adult standing with a toddler on the ice at the edge of an iced over London park pond a few years ago. Told him it was dangerous and he just laughed at me. It's not very deep for an adult maybe waist high, but if they'd gne through the child would have gone completely under the water. Can't blame young kids for fooling about on ice, kids just don't have a sense of danger but adults should know better.

This is just so awful. Sat here in tears.

MoonahSton · 12/12/2022 11:27

How utterly tragic. It would be awful at any time of year but 2 weeks before Christmas just seems doubly so.

Poor boys and their families. It doesn't bare thinking about 😪

It's just so awful, those poor poor boys - my sons have a 4 year age gap and at 6 would not be out playing alone unless he was with his brother so can only assume similar.

I really do hope schools across the country hold an assembly this week and warn of the dangers, push it home (I know many won't take it in, but still)

RealHousewifeOfPontypandy · 12/12/2022 11:28

No words. Sending so much love and strength to the family and friends. We'll all be hugging our children tight tonight.

Adventadventures · 12/12/2022 11:28

Devastating news I think we were all praying for a miracle .I can’t even begin to comprehend the devastation for the families and so close to Christmas. My thoughts are with the parents and those poor boys . I hope with all my heart the 6 year old boy pulls through as I am sure everyone in the UK is

QforCucumber · 12/12/2022 11:29

@Lockheart it's not hand wringing and speculation, it is mothers who can very well imagine their own families being in the same situation.

User57713 · 12/12/2022 11:32

I have 3 sons. I suspect you could give all the advice in the world but if the little one fell through the ice his big brothers would be in there after him.

Sending so much love to these families. How awful.

BringBackFoilWrappers · 12/12/2022 11:32

@Lockheart

Wind your neck in a bit, people are rightly horrified about the news and empathising with the families.
Sad that we can't speak our feelings about this without being accused of grief vulturing.

Seaweedandsalt · 12/12/2022 11:32

Just confirmed three boys are deceased.

Prayers to all involved. So very tragic.

watcherintherye · 12/12/2022 11:32

Oh God, the worst has happened.

electricmoccasins · 12/12/2022 11:34

Kingshurst/North Solihull is quite a deprived area. The community is going to need a lot of support.

Mentallycollapsed · 12/12/2022 11:34

The phrasing of the article "thoughts are with the family" not families suggests it's one household. Maybe I'm reading too much into this though?

Ooh I love the 'be Kind' crew that have a go at others like you. As a mother eh.

Monmouthy · 12/12/2022 11:35

Really awful to read the update. A tragic accident, they were just excited I guess as all kids are.

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 12/12/2022 00:23

My comment earlier was deleted, but just wanted to clarify that it was the Centre Parcs adults that I was referring to as thick as shit, not these poor poor children....I would never in a million years think that, let alone say it.
My heart breaks for everyone involved in todays tragic events.

@Haveyoubrushedyourteeth I read it, it was perfectly obvious you were referring to the CP parents & I have no idea why your post was deleted.

Figgygal · 12/12/2022 11:36

Awful news
Just awful
My 10 year old home from school today with a chest infection and just had a very stern water safety chat.
I can see how it could happen and its terrifying

Busybody2022 · 12/12/2022 11:36

This is just horrific. I have a 6 year old and an 8 year old, I can't fathom

Wetblanket78 · 12/12/2022 11:36

You would be surprised there was a horrific incident last year at a local music festival. Part of a ride had come off and hit a young lady. There was a video put up of her being treated at the scene. They didn't think she would survive but she did.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 12/12/2022 11:40

This morning we went for an early morning forest walk. Nature reserve right beside the house has a lake and I said to my boys no and explained why. Had no idea of this tragedy. Have just explained again why we didn't go to the lake this morning.
God rest those boys souls and strength and support to the family and friends impacted.
So very very sad.
