How delayed is everyone's post or parcel deliveries?
Especially if you live in North Cornwall.
I have been waiting for something that was posted over a week ago, said it was estimated by Monday but I know there have been loads of strikes. I don't want to chase the seller yet as I know it's likely to be a RM issue. If I had spotted at the time they were posting with RM then I probably would have ordered from someone else.
We've had 1 lot of post in the last week which seems insane!

I'm waiting for a parcel that was posted 19th November and suspect it is at the bottom of a huge pile somewhere!
No post delivered since last Saturday (3rd Dec).

BertiesShoes · 08/12/2022 15:41

2 parcels posted 1st class Monday morning in Cheshire, to Yorkshire and Lincs.

The Yorkshire one arrived yesterday, was in touch with relative for something else and they thanked me for it!

Yet some of DS birthday cards posted 1st class around 26th, only just arriving this week! I have posted my Christmas cards but not expecting lots back before Christmas itself!

We had a period in December last year when no post was delivered for a week or so (DH eventually asked when picking up a parcel at sorting office and was handed a large bundle!), so I think this year will be even worse.

LIZS · 08/12/2022 15:48

Very erratic. DN birthday cards took almost a week, first class, but today I got a Christmas card posted second class yesterday!

user1634987 · 08/12/2022 15:54

Some is OK, my eBay and Hotel Chocolat parcels arrived within the normal timescale, taking out the 2 strike days but DH's birthday cards took a lot longer, 2 with 1st class stamps took a week and 10 days to arrive

user1634987 · 08/12/2022 15:56

I do wonder if they are tossing all the cards to one side as they were what took a long time with us.

alloalloallo · 08/12/2022 16:00

Our postie (we have the same one at home and at work) is lovely and super helpful and parcels seem to be arriving fine, but I’m not getting any letters through.

I’m waiting for a letter to arrive that was posted 1st class on 28th November - I’ve ended up asking for them to print me another copy and went and picked it up. It is to apply for a disability bus pass for my daughter which are currently taking ages to process so I wanted to get the application in ASAP, plus they won’t accept emailed copies so I needed the original

We haven’t had any letters at home or at work this week.

Some of our suppliers still send invoices and statements out by post and none have arrived yet. I’ve had to get them to email me copies so I can pay them (I don’t know why they don’t just email in the first place, I’ve asked a million times)

BamBamBilla · 08/12/2022 16:02

Everything is arriving on time for us. Couple of parcels from companies. I've sent some cards first class. I've also arranged for a parcel collection from my home and its all on time when expected.

jicora · 08/12/2022 16:02

I paid for something important to be sent on Friday 24 hour delivery. It still hasn't updated in their systems tracking and it's going to be a massive inconvenience. Can't be ordered elsewhere at all. Sad

jicora · 08/12/2022 16:04

Why they hell they thought it was a good idea to use Royal Mail for premium delivery at the moment I've no idea.

It won't be here tomorrow either as isn't that another strike day?

PestorPeston · 08/12/2022 16:12

We are finding that first class small packets are taking about three days, the odd one has taken longer.

DPD has descended into a nightmare of "it will be delivered tomorrow" on repeat for two weeks or more.

ThePug · 08/12/2022 16:19

I've got two parcels that I bought from AliExpress that are showing arrived at my local delivery depot on 24th and 26th November and haven't been delivered yet - significantly faster to get from China to UK than less than 2 miles from the sorting office to my home! Again, Christmas presents so hope they turn up soon.

AriettyHomily · 08/12/2022 16:56

Fucked. 24 hour signed for sent on 01/12. No one knows where it is.

AutumnDragon · 08/12/2022 16:59

The reason that some people are getting stuff on time and others are waiting weeks is down to the route it takes. On the RM help pages you can see which mail hubs are backed up - approx 10-12 of them. If your post goes through ones of these it will be delayed as the post that is collected today, is put on top of the post that arrived yesterday, which in turn is on top of the backlog from the day before etc. all the way back to the 28th from what I can tell in our local one.

I have worked this out as I am a small business that sells predominantly small items that go large letter. If I want to send these via any other courier (cheapest is Evri) I will need to add an additional £2 to the cost - which on a £4 item isn't going to happen. Nothing I have posted has been delivered since the 28th.

Today I have had to make the very painful decision to close until the posties go back to normal working. As I sell via Amazon and EBay, I may never reopen as every person that complains about their order being missing is a black mark against my unblemished record. Amazon especially, will suspend my account after just a few complaints. Ebay are at least trying to be supportive of the sellers.

The only people who can resolve this are the posties. They voted to strike after being goaded by CWU. CWU won't back down, RM can't back down as they are running at a loss (ignore the propaganda about CEO salaries etc, this is coming from their profitable arm GLS). So the only people who can solve this are the posties who must be a months wages down by now.

Feelallright · 08/12/2022 17:03

Dreadful. My supposedly 48-hour tracked delivery took ten days…

Same. Friday anyway.

I'm trying to remain sympathetic to the strike and remind myself that they're worse off striking, and why. But it's trying.

Last week I waited 4 days for a letter that was posted locally with first class. Then yesterday I read in the news that we'll likely be stuck at passport control on our way back to England after Christmas because the UK border force are also planning to walk out. Fed up with the whole world striking!

Mine were a couple of days late but nothing major.

However I did have a 4 hour window for postie to collect a parcel and I'm still waiting

He came an hour and 10 minutes late and was lovely.
I've sent it on a 48 hour service. I'll let you know when it arrives.

Only £2.85 to send a parcel the size of one of the bigger Amazon boxes and automatically insured up to £100 so can't grumble.

Off to check their prohibited least and decide what I 'sent' in case it does go awol 🤫

kernowpicklepie · 08/12/2022 17:29

What I was waiting for has actually turned up today, thankfully. It was the only post we had today though and the last time we received anything was beginning of last week

I have been waiting on a parcel for a Christmas present for over a week. It's currently stuck at the Milton Keynes hub. There's still time.

I sent a letter to a friend of the family on Saturday from London to Warwick by ordinary 2nd class post and I heard she got it on Monday. I was amazed!

My husband is a postie so I'm very aware if the delays, strikes, and all the reasons why...I've done most of my Christmas shopping at actual shops and not bothered to send cards this year.

Pythonese · 08/12/2022 17:48

I had to wait 10 days for a delivery. I simply will not use Royal Mail or buy from anybody who cannot offer an alternative. Amazon must be loving it.
