How delayed is everyone's post or parcel deliveries?
Especially if you live in North Cornwall.
I have been waiting for something that was posted over a week ago, said it was estimated by Monday but I know there have been loads of strikes. I don't want to chase the seller yet as I know it's likely to be a RM issue. If I had spotted at the time they were posting with RM then I probably would have ordered from someone else.
We've had 1 lot of post in the last week which seems insane!

AutumnDragon I agree. It is upsetting to know my livelihood is at risk due to this strike.
My patience is wearing thin too.
This is normally my busiest time of year, instead I have shut my online shop.
I have spent the last week refunding buyers who have been waiting for orders I posted two weeks ago. Staying open may see me make a loss in the run up to christmas. I can't afford to stay open until the strike is over- which means zero income, in fact less than that as I am still refunding and have to keep paying fees to host my web site, Amazon etc.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 08/12/2022 21:04

Why don't you use a courier service? Some of them are very competitive with pricing

Sugarplumfairy65 that's no solution. Private courier companies are struggling now too because of RM, with delays and backlogs. Many are not taking new customers.

yahpahha · 08/12/2022 21:12

@AutumnDragon the open letter also said no compulsory redundancies but on the official Royal Mail workplace app only yesterday he said "until March". He also likes to post quite a lot of lies such as pictures of clear mail centres... these pictures have been proven to have been taken years ago. So works both ways don't believe everything union tells you but don't believe everything from ST either.

Zingy123 · 08/12/2022 21:14

@AutumnDragon our beloved CEO could not lie straight in bed. If you read the details they contradict everything he says. I do already work Sunday's which they want to pay us the standard rate for instead of our current contracted pay.

Because there is no viable alternative for large letter size.

speakout · 08/12/2022 21:17

Same here AutumnDragon- 70% of my items are LL, low cost and flat!
Using a courier would not be viable.

daffodilandtulip · 08/12/2022 21:22

I've been waiting on a 48hr delivery parcel since November.

I've also noticed that since all this began, we have two posties, instead of one, dropped off in our street each day (that there aren't strikes) who seem to overlap and both walk the same route. Makes no sense.

speakout · 08/12/2022 21:34

I feel for all those small businesses.
One example- 83% of sellers on Etsy are women.
Often home workers, often with caring roles of children or other family members, Etsy provides an opportunity for women to start up small businesses, while still having flexibility to fit around children and family.
Esty and other online platforms are a lifeline particularly for women. Etsy has 83,000 sellers in the UK, and there are many others using ebay, Amazon, direct selling through web sites and other platforms.
This run up to christmas gives these women much needed income during hard times.
Thousands of women and small businesses being shafted.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/12/2022 21:41

The guy threatened with a ‘shanking’ needs to go to the police.

Strike or don’t strike. But threatening people with violence is ridiculous - no one should care that much about post.

Epicstorm · 08/12/2022 21:47

I posted a birthday card a week last Monday. It still hasn’t arrived and the birthday was two days ago. Posted it first class and at the sorting office. We’re in the north.

Justcheckingimnotmad · 08/12/2022 21:52

Posties worked all through Covid lockdowns ensuring everyone got their letters and parcels and sometimes the only bit of human contact that some had. They put their health on the line, as other front line services did too. Many ended up off with covid which caused delays but still the rest went in and worked overtime to clear it.

The conditions that all these posties are now working under is ridiculous, caused by Royal Mail bosses who only care about rewarding themselves and the shareholders at the detriment of the service everyone has come to expect. Any disruption we are noticing is intentional and shows what a fantastic service we all receive usually, and would again if the higher ups were not insistent on destroying Royal Mail.

Don't blame the strikers who are standing up for their rights and dignity.

speakout · 08/12/2022 21:57

Many people worked hard during lockdown.
Supermarket staff.
NHS staff-my DD is an intensive care nurse.
Power workers
Gas repair men.
Joiners and plumbers.
I had work done in my bathroom in the middle of lockdown- these guys put themselves at risk too.
Many many people worked during lockdown.

itsnevertolate · 08/12/2022 21:59

I'm an online seller, I'm currently waiting for some stock to arrive which is nearly 2 weeks late. I needed that stock listed and ready to sale at the start of December. I've lost £££ by it not being here. I'm also being forced to refund customers for missing items as they are not receiving them. I send a lot of large letters which are obviously not priority, I send them with tracking but most of the time the tracking says it will be updated when the item is delivered. A family friend is a postman and he reckons RM are about 12 days behind.

And the reading comprehension award goes to ⬆️⬆️⬆️. That is why I said "as other front line services did too".

I feel your frustration itsnevertolate.
It is heartbreaking, and also quite frightening. It is hard to stay afloat as a small business. I work hard all year, rarely even take a day off.
Even my days off I am researching, ordering stock, tidying supplies.
I have bought materials and made tons of stuff specifically for christmas- christmas theme type thing- which will be useless in January.

My reading comprehension is fine- I just don't know why you even mentioned covid. Millions of people had to work during lockdown. Not sure why you single out postal workers.

Rolypolyup · 08/12/2022 22:22

I know it's awful with them at the moment and it's difficult to support them if you're being personally affected but it's really important that they get all the support they can. The changes Royal Mail want to make are ridiculous and unfair. They need everyone's support. We are continuing to struggle through the missed days of pay to support the strikes and moral is starting to fall.

pimlicoanna · 08/12/2022 22:28

I'm in London. I haven't had any delays at all (so far)

Itchintobestitchin · 08/12/2022 22:34

My Mum's Christmas present was sent Royal Mail Tracked 24 and picked up on 1st December but it's still stuck in PSC Milton Keynes.

LoveBluey · 08/12/2022 22:49

Had a parcel today that I ordered over 2 weeks ago and it was labelled 48hrs!

Sent a birthday card first class and it took 10 days to arrive to recipient.

I agree.

Not receiving my parcel has been, and is going to be, inconvenient and disappointing, but that's nothing compared to the small businesses here. I am very sorry for them.

airwrapped · 09/12/2022 00:48

I'm waiting on 2 packages ordered over Black Friday (so now 3? weeks ago) for DHs birthday this weekend, both sent on 48h delivery, no sign of them or tracking available. Both ordered from small businesses so trying to be understanding because this is way more impacting on them than it is me, but it's bloody annoying.

ichundich · 09/12/2022 03:22

Loobyloo68 · 08/12/2022 19:17

Parcels take priority over letters. Managers telling posties to leave post and concentrate on parcels. It's impossible to catch up.

That's what my postie told me too. I find it annoying because letters can often be more important.

noideabutstilltrying · 09/12/2022 06:09

NippyWoowoo · 08/12/2022 13:27

Can anyone explain to me why they are so shit? They've been privatised, is this what the NHS would look like if it's privatised as well?

I stood 10 minutes in a queue this morning at the delivery office only to be told they just hadn't gotten round to sorting out the post, said they were understaffed and just 🤷🏽‍♀️

I only receive post about once every 2 weeks as well.

My husband is a postie and they are being treated appallingly by management.

They are on strike to protect their current terms and conditions. Not to get an improvement on much other than salary.

Royal Mail are looking to move toward the Evri business model. Owner drivers, moving from 500 calls a day to 1200.

Working Sundays as standard rather than being voluntary

Reduction of paid sick leave. So when postal workers need to have operations or treatment on joints they've injured at work they'd be on SSP.

Tinywaffle · 09/12/2022 07:20

Still haven’t received several parcels from November for my DC birthday. Think I’m going to have to switch to Amazon to try and get something to replace, which is such a shame.

I am lucky that we have an excellent Evri driver now so no problems there!
