How delayed is everyone's post or parcel deliveries?
Especially if you live in North Cornwall.
I have been waiting for something that was posted over a week ago, said it was estimated by Monday but I know there have been loads of strikes. I don't want to chase the seller yet as I know it's likely to be a RM issue. If I had spotted at the time they were posting with RM then I probably would have ordered from someone else.
We've had 1 lot of post in the last week which seems insane!

I had three items arrive today all posted from different places on the 24/11 first class, so 15 days to arrive.

speakout · 08/12/2022 17:57

I run a small business from home- 100% of my orders are sent via Royal Mail.
This is normally my busiest time- I have decided to close up shop until after christmas.
This past week I have sent dozens of replacements and refunds for non arrival.
I can't take the stress, despite the financial losses- this is my livelihood, so losing a month's income.

justgettingthroughtheday · 08/12/2022 18:00

I'm waiting for a parcel that was apparently posted 9 working days ago. I need said item for tomorrow and it isn't going to be here. I can't afford to replace it. So I'm pretty pissed off. The website I ordered from made no mention of using Royal Mail when I ordered. They must have known the strikes were happening so why no use an alternative?

Tulipvase · 08/12/2022 18:03

I’ve ordered 2 things this week which have both been delivered on time with Royal Mail. One was tracked but the other wasn’t. I’m in Oxfordshire.

Clevs · 08/12/2022 18:03

I received something today that was posted on 28th Nov. I also had a card through the letterbox telling me to collect a parcel from the sorting office. If it's what I think it is then that was posted on the 25th.

piedbeauty · 08/12/2022 18:04

We're getting parcels about once a week. Last week parcels were from up to two weeks earlier 🙄 No parcels this week yet.

ShakeYourFeathers · 08/12/2022 18:04

Not North Cornwall but West Cornwall. The post has been really slow. Especially last week. Things took much longer than normal to get here. That could be time of year and what I had ordered I know. But it's places which were usually quite quick last time. Still have some things to arrive and no idea when

speakout · 08/12/2022 18:10

justgettingthroughtheday the alternatives are struggling too.
Companies like DPD Evri etc have delays and backlogs as suppliers switch from Royal Mail.
Many of the courier companies are not accepting items from new customers- focussing instead on existing and high volume users.
For many businesses just switching to a courier is not a solution.

needthiswilderness · 08/12/2022 18:17

I think RM are in meltdown and seems especially bad in parcel hubs in the north.. I’m waiting on two extremely delayed parcels - trackers saying both stationary for days at RM hubs. I’ve had no response from any RM help services.. very frustrating and I’m definitely not ordering anything else pre Xmas from anywhere using RM. Good news for Amazon! (Which is obvs not really good news)

needthiswilderness · 08/12/2022 18:17

(I’m in the south west if that’s relevant)

user1634987 · 08/12/2022 18:24

I bought a present to be sent by RM, I returned it this week to M&S and bought something else from Amazon instead which was delivered to the recipient in one day by Amazon Prime

healthadvice123 · 08/12/2022 18:39

My parcels have arrived yesterday and today both about a week late

Quveas · 08/12/2022 19:04

Yorkshire- almost no delay. A day or two at worst. But late dispatches being blamed on them! I support them, so if there was a delay I'd be fine.

Loobyloo68 · 08/12/2022 19:17

Parcels take priority over letters. Managers telling posties to leave post and concentrate on parcels. It's impossible to catch up.

not4profit · 08/12/2022 19:19

I'm in a London Borough and have had no postal deliveries at all for a week now, apparently due to sickness. It was my child's birthday yesterday and no sign of a single card yet. Royal Mail are signing their own death warrant

Zingy123 · 08/12/2022 19:26

@AutumnDragon We have to keep fighting. The changes RM want to impose will lose us a lot more money. I personally will be over £2400 worse off doing the exact same job I do now. Why should we be worse off? Their 9% pay offer is no such thing. Please do your research before you criticise.

speakout · 08/12/2022 19:40

Zingy123 I have lost approx £2400 because of the strike.

speakout · 08/12/2022 20:35

Small businesses and personal customers are being used as bargaining chips in this dispute.
I don't doubt that RM employees have valid grievances, but thousands of small businesses are struggling and don't have vocal unions to speak up for them.

Zingy123 · 08/12/2022 20:45

@speakout So we should just accept a pay cut and changes to our working hours? The changes mean many will have to find other jobs or pay for childcare as they want us to work later in the day.

AutumnDragon · 08/12/2022 20:52

@Zingy123 my business will likely fail due to the strikes, a business I began in 2011 and have worked really hard to build up. Today I am beyond devastated, so no, I do not have any sympathy for the people who have caused this with legalised blackmail.

My local collection postie has told me that he can’t break the strike as the union rep in the office has threatened to “shank” anyone who tries to. This was backed up by another postie from the same branch. Both of them want to stop the strikes. They’re down best part of a month’s wage and can’t afford living.

Also, it is my son’s birthday tomorrow and his main present has been stuck in a “super hub” since the 28th.

speakout · 08/12/2022 20:58

Zingy123 many of us are in a similar position though.
This strike is very harmful to small businesses.
As I say I understand your valid grievances, but this strike is causing hardship to many sole traders, small businesses.
The fat cats are not the ones affected by this- it is people like me, already worried about rising power and food bills. I am not your enemy here, yet it is me and similar who are feeling the effects of the strike most acutely.
It is causing most hardship to those of us already hit by the recession.
My daughter is a nurse. The type of industrial action she can take is limited. Hospitals can't close.

Mummapenguin20 · 08/12/2022 20:59

Parcel posted saterday recived today

I suggest you read your bosses open letter and stop listening to the CWU propaganda.

www.royalmail.com/latest-news

it clearly states that if you are not already contracted to work Sunday then you won’t need to, and they are looking at family friendly hours for existing employees.

ichundich · 08/12/2022 17:13

Last week I waited 4 days for a letter that was posted locally with first class. Then yesterday I read in the news that we'll likely be stuck at passport control on our way back to England after Christmas because the UK border force are also planning to walk out. Fed up with the whole world striking!

Poor you!
Imagine not being able to jet off for Christmas and having to stay here and strike for a living wage and to retain the terms and conditions in your job contract?

Why don't you use a courier service? Some of them are very competitive with pricing
