How often do you wash your hair?!

I saw a video earlier, I believe it may have been students at a pretty well known hair stylists (although I can’t for the life of me remember which now) being asked how often they wash their hair. Most said once a week, quite a few once a month. There seemed to be a bit of shock when a couple said they washed theirs everyday or every other day.

How often do you wash yours? Any one know how often you are supposed to? I only ask as I wash mine every other day and by then it’s feeling pretty oily and looking like crap… maybe I’m washing it too often?! Dry shampoo does nothing for me though…

Once a week for me…..unless the wind’s been blowing the wrong way when I’ve been throwing manure on the heap😬🙈😷😂

Ironfloor269 · 01/12/2022 19:54

Every 3 days so twice a week. I follow the Curly Girl method so don't use shampoo. When I used to wash more often and did use shampoo, I had a terrible itchy/peeling scalp/dandruff issue to the point it was embarrassing. Now I only use conditioner to clean my scalp twice a week, that problem is non existent.

Every other day.

I washed it every day for years (with a mild frequent use shampoo), my hair is fine (although I have a lot of it) so it dries quickly, 7=8 minutes for an 90% dry finish. I went through a period of not using shampoo to try and get out of the habit and now I am down to every second day - feels fine on the second day - but by the third - not pleasant!

I'm thinking of not washing for a week or two and getting down to every third day - but no idea if it will work!

I have Mediterranean hair, long wavy and thick. It takes me an hour in the shower to shampoo, condition, rinse, repeat, comb through the fixative. Then another bloody hour if I decide to blow dry it. There's no chance of me doing that every day.

I do that once every 2-3 weeks. When my hair starts to look rubbish I wear a pony tail or braid.

FuckFuckGo · 01/12/2022 19:55

Every other day, but it’s always greasy on the second day. Sometimes by the end of the first. Can’t be bothered to do it every day though. I have oily skin too.

Fufumcgoo · 01/12/2022 19:57

With wfh for the last 3 years I tried stretching to one or twice a week max because I hate washing it. But I have long hair and find it EVEN MORE of a nightmare to wash and comb through if I leave it that long. My hair felt dirtier all the time and it made me feel like shite.

So I'm back to every other day. Ready to shave the damn stuff off.

Jellykat · 01/12/2022 19:57

Twice a week, mainly because its very fine so goes flat at the roots very quickly

MaryMollyPolly · 01/12/2022 20:00

maybe every three weeks. Washing my hair just wrecks it. It is lots better and looks much nicer the less it’s washed.

butterfliedtwo · 01/12/2022 20:00

I'm peri. It has thinned and it breaks so easily. Twice a week.

glamourousindierockandroll · 01/12/2022 20:00

Every other day. I try to leave it longer when I'm not in work. Would love to get it to 1-2 per week.

JaninaDuszejko · 01/12/2022 20:01

I swim every morning and have short hair so wash my hair every day. I can't imagine only washing it once a week, it's something I don't like about long hair, that people wash it far less than they would short hair.

DramaAlpaca · 01/12/2022 20:02

Every morning in the shower. It's short and fine, and it looks awful if not freshly washed.

fairtrauchled · 01/12/2022 20:04

Every 3 or 4 days .

Peppermint81 · 01/12/2022 20:05

Every day! I have oily hair and just feel dirty and rank if I don't wash it in the mornings!

WTF475878237NC · 01/12/2022 20:09

My hair is very fine but I have a lot of it so to look at it you might say it's thick hair. I used to wash it every other day and my hairdresser said I was making it greasier and to wean down. I did. For the last seven or eight years I only needed to wash it once a week and it's not greasy. It took about six months to get to there.

defi · 01/12/2022 20:10

One or twice a week, I have curly hair though

user374698 · 01/12/2022 20:10

Every 1-2 days, if I leave it more than 2 days I get a weird hurting feeling at the crown, I have short curly hair so it's no bother to wash it in the shower as it doesn't need styling.

idonotmind · 01/12/2022 20:11

I should wash it every day. It's more like EOD - looks like I've dipped my head in vaseline on he second day tbh

idonotmind · 01/12/2022 20:11

*the second day, not he

Purplemagnolias · 01/12/2022 20:13

Once a week.

I hate washing and drying my hair, especially now when it's so cold

Summerishere123 · 01/12/2022 20:13

Used to be every other day but I decided to train it in lockdown so its not every 3 or 4.

NatalieH2220 · 01/12/2022 20:14

Twice a week generally

Applepie18 · 01/12/2022 20:15

Usually twice a week but since being pregnant once a week. I think it's because my hairs thicker or maybe dryer?

ohsotired2022 · 01/12/2022 20:16

Every day.
I sometimes go in the shower and think right I'm not going to wash it but once in the shower it feels nice to wash it.
