Do You Know Many People Who Still Haven't Had Covid?

DH and I have had all vaccinations and boosters. We're both over sixty and we live in a small, remote Scottish village. I believe that this is probably the reason that neither of us has caught Covid (yet).

The DC live in London and three of them have had it (two of them, twice).

Whilst there have been countless cases of Covid in our village, we have escaped.

Does anyone else know people who still haven't had it?

Me, and my in laws...35 miles away from each other but we lead mostly quiet lives.

Quite a few of my colleagues and we work from home and avoid public transport.

Me!

I live in London and I have managed to avoid it so far.

My Dad and MiL have had all vaccinations and boosters available from the minute they became available. MiL has huge health anxiety so became a total recluse in the lockdowns and still wears a mask now. My dad wore a mask for when it was compulsory but hasn't for ages and went back to his volunteering as soon as it was allowed and refused to have food deliveries beyond May 2020. Neither of them have had COVID. We all live in commuter towns not far from London so not exactly remote.

My MiL I think was fastidious ( as we were) but I wonder if my dad might have some sort of natural immunity. He has never had flu even when highly exposed ( never had a flu jab either) and just doesn't seem to really get ill.

I’ve never had Covid and I’m not vaccinated

Billyhargrovesmullet · 24/11/2022 10:00

I haven’t & my parents haven’t even though my children have all had it

My parents haven't, thank god as my dad in particular is very vulnerable following lung cancer. They've taken a lot of precautions.

I, my DH, siblings, nieces and nephews and multiple friends have all had it. I'm on my second bout currently as is DH. We're fully vaccinated.

Oh, and my DH's parents haven't had it despite working in the community (teacher and volunteer hospital patient driver)

SaffronQuoda · 24/11/2022 10:02

My H and I haven't had it. Retired. Two nephews living with Mum and Dad who both had it twice have never had it!

TheShellBeach · 24/11/2022 10:03

It's interesting to see how many people who either work in healthcare or retail industries (or travel on the Tube) have never had it.

I do wonder if some people just have a genetic component which precludes their catching Covid.

I know two people who haven't had it. One is vulnerable, the other has worked a great deal with people who have covid. Both are vaccinated and boosted. I am unvaccinated and have had 3 or 4 times now. Each time milder than the last. I know people who are up to date with their jabs who've also had it 2 or 3 times.

containsnuts · 24/11/2022 10:07

Despite having school aged DCs we've never tested positive. We still test our colds because we have vulnerable family members - negative everytime. I don't believe we could all have been asymptomatic.

chatw0o0 · 24/11/2022 10:07

4x vaccinated and have not had COVID to my knowledge. WFH has also probably helped!

barskits · 24/11/2022 10:07

I've not had it, touch wood. Neither has DH, MIL or DD's boyfriend. DD is the only one in our family who has.

I'm actually struggling to think of anyone else we know who hasn't had it though.

loveisanopensore · 24/11/2022 10:09

I have but husband and two children didn't catch it.

MotherofPearl · 24/11/2022 10:10

Fully vaccinated and I've not had it and nor have my two DDs. Did plenty of tests - certainly tested with any possible symptoms and when we knew we'd had a close contact with a positive case.

DP and DS both had it though. We kept some distance from them but total separation wasn't practical.

Beautiful3 · 24/11/2022 10:11

One daughter had it. My other child, husband and myself never had it. I'm unvaccinated and have been around people with covid. We live in an over populated city.

AuntieMarys · 24/11/2022 10:12

I've not had it. Dh has..we still shared a bed, stayed in same room etc.

hugznotdrugz · 24/11/2022 10:13

My dh and kids haven't- I may or may not have had it (I was in hospital test neg day 1 positive day 2 and neg day 3 🤷‍♀️)

Retrievemysanity · 24/11/2022 10:13

My 14 year old DD has never had it. She’s in the vulnerable category so is fully vaccinated. Can’t believe she hasn’t to be honest! Apart from her, I’m not sure. Lots of my friends have had it for the first time over the past few months.

Vinorosso74 · 24/11/2022 10:15

I live in London and had it for the first time 3 weeks ago. Annoyingly, I was due to get my 5th jab that week.
I avoided it last Christmas when DP and DD both had it even with a reduced immune system having finished chemo 2 months earlier.
I was talking to someone in the gym recently who has avoided it.

PartyLikeItIs1999 · 24/11/2022 10:15

My mom hasn't had it and she's worked in a high risk job throughout. Fully vaccinated and tests everyday at work so it's unlikely she's had an asymptomatic infection. She's the only one I know though

Jaffacakeorisitabiscuit · 24/11/2022 10:16

Lots including DH and myself, adult DCs, DSiblings, but we have no school aged children in the family and many family members working from home - I think that's made the difference

containsnuts · 24/11/2022 10:16

I do wonder how accurate the tests are though. Odd that some people we've been in contact with have had covid 3 times but never a standard cold, where we've had about 8 colds since 2020 but never covid. We're around each other so you'd think we would have the same viruses?

LindorDoubleChoc · 24/11/2022 10:16

I live in London and live a far from isolated life and haven't had it - or at least not had symptoms and tested positive. My DH and DS had it right at the very start of the first lockdown - months before all vaccinations - and I shared a fairly cramped terraced house with them all through that time. I've been in close proximity to many people who were incubating it over the past two years and never had it. I've had to take quite a few lateral flow tests due to visiting CEV relative. I think I'm one of those dangerous types who don't show symptoms.

Saying all that I'll probably get it today!

KingJulien · 24/11/2022 10:19

Me, DH and our children haven’t. Unvaxed and live in a tourist hotspot. Our unvaxed friends haven’t either. Or maybe we have and had no symptoms. Our vaxxed friends and family have all had it multiple times, some quite bad and some complain of long covid.
Based on the answers in here though I don’t think being vaccinated or not has any affect on whether or not you get it or the severity. Like any cold or flu virus, you just have to try to stay healthy and hope for the best.
