Do You Know Many People Who Still Haven't Had Covid?

DH and I have had all vaccinations and boosters. We're both over sixty and we live in a small, remote Scottish village. I believe that this is probably the reason that neither of us has caught Covid (yet).

The DC live in London and three of them have had it (two of them, twice).

Whilst there have been countless cases of Covid in our village, we have escaped.

Does anyone else know people who still haven't had it?

yes, myself and yet my dd2 has had it twice, once before the vaccination was available and I didn't catch it either time

Oblomov22 · 24/11/2022 10:20

I know loads. I never even felt ill. I was then part of a survey from guys hospital in London and their results came back, but they too didn't think I'd had it.

CambsAlways · 24/11/2022 10:21

Not vaccinated , extremely vunerable, not had so much as a sniffle or anything else in last 3 years, looked after family member who had it, my Dh fully vaccinated not had anything either,

Based on the answers in here though I don’t think being vaccinated or not has any affect on whether or not you get it or the severity

so why did unvaccinated people getting covid lead to far more deaths from covid than when the vaccination started and less deaths occurred?

It's interesting to see how many people who either work in healthcare or retail industries (or travel on the Tube) have never had it.

I do wonder if some people just have a genetic component which precludes their catching Covid.

I wonder this too. I keep hearing about certain vitamin deficiencies that can make you more susceptible. Time and research will tell I suppose.

Dh, even though I had it in June. My dmum as well, even though loads in her flats have.

Because by the time the vaccine was developed the worst strain was already running its course and become weaker. That’s what viruses do.

Everyone in my household except me caught it earlier on this year. This was despite sharing the same bed as DH who was quite poorly with it. I even shared a 4 hour round car trip with DH and DD and still didn’t catch it.

There is a possibility I may have had Covid very early on (relentless chronic cough which resulted in internal bleeding/shortness of breath/low oxygen levels and a week in hospital) but I’ll never know for sure because it was a couple of weeks before the official first cases of Covid were being reported in this country.

Perhaps antibodies played a part?

Whiskers4 · 24/11/2022 10:24

Oue heating engineer doesn't think he's had it. Some people are lucky and don't have symptoms. My friend only found out she had it through work testing. Second time around she tested as her DH tested positive - he's a nurse so still work testing

Newcatbrowntail · 24/11/2022 10:25

Me and DH , haven’t had Covid. We live in the south east. We go into London regularly, theatre, cafes, trains, tubes art galleries etc. all places with lots of people.
Ive had 5 and DH 4 vaccinations, still not had it.
I’ve had a cough/cold combo for 3weeks though and tested several times but not Covid.

TiredButAlive · 24/11/2022 10:26

I thought I was going to get away with it. Had my three vaccinations and was due my booster. I booked it at the earliest opportunity for my age group but it was ten months after the last jab. Then, 2.5 years after the official start of the pandemic, after never catching it despite being with people who did, bam! .... I got it and I was really poorly for two weeks. Still recovering a month later. It's not as bad as proper 'flu in the acute phase but Covid really drags on. I don't want to get this again!!!

MintJulia · 24/11/2022 10:26

Neither I nor my ds have tested positive yet. We live in the Home Counties, he's at secondary school, I'm currently sat on a commuter train.

I think some people have natural immunity.

RudolphTheGreat · 24/11/2022 10:27

4/5 in our house haven't had it (yet). One of us came down with it this week. They are the only unvaccinated one in the house which may or may not be relevant.

RoseOud · 24/11/2022 10:27

I've never had covid. Had the vaccine and boosters though.

I've never had flu either. Had a few head colds and that's it. I don't seem to be susceptible to viruses. I'm in my 60's.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/11/2022 10:28

Never had it, neither have my adult kids. Residents I look after some have had it, all staff have but not me.

viques · 24/11/2022 10:29

Me and dd. But neither of us have had flu or heavy colds for years either.

Have I dodged Covid and what does it mean?

We think we may have had it before it was widely recognised in early February - we had something that left us very ill - even MIL who is never ill never even had common childhood viruses - there is a mechanism for this through DH workplace and we were a location hit hard and early once it was recognised but t could easily have been another virus.

They also think it may have been here earlier than once thought:

Fergus Walsh: Was coronavirus here earlier than we thought?

My sibling who worked in care sector and was fully vaccinated as early as they could be - had covid 4 times sometimes only picked up by daily testing other times very ill.

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/11/2022 10:31

My DH and 2 children haven't had it (that we know of).

However we haven't tested for months so maybe they have

I've had it once.

We live in a Scottish city.

HarvestThyme · 24/11/2022 10:32

I suspect many of us have had it but don't know, especially after a vaccination or 4! I was picked up on a routine test for travel - would never have known otherwise as asymptomatic. Now I would not have found out as the requirement to test is gone.

TheOceanClub · 24/11/2022 10:34

Me. And I’m not vaccinated. All throughout lockdowns I was working, taking a bus twice a day, mixing with colleges, went good shopping etc, just living my normal life.
Maybe I’ve had it who knows but then I was totally asymptomatic.

Greyarea12 · 24/11/2022 10:34

But you don't know that you haven't had it. Some people show no symptoms. My daughter had it and at that time I had to test twice a week for my work and used to test my daughter aswell. If it wasn't for those tests, I would be saying my daughter has never had it. She had no symptoms at all. I could say my Mum has never had it, but she maybe has had it and was asymptomatic.

skippy67 · 24/11/2022 10:36

Neither me or DH have had it. Both mid 50s fully vaccinated and live in London. DS has had it though. Also fully vaccinated.

HarvestThyme · 24/11/2022 10:38

There was a study in April that said 70% of people in the UK had contracted Covid at least once. I imagine it's higher 6 months on.

Always4Brenner · 24/11/2022 10:39

Not had it either.

WarmBeerAndSandwiches · 24/11/2022 10:40

Neither DH or I have had it so far unless we've been completely asymptomatic. Both worked during the whole thing, we are self-employed so could choose what level of contact with other people we had and were quite careful as I have other health issues. Most people we know have had it though.
