I'm on holiday in Gran Canaria staying in Maspalomas.
The first few days was nice but I'm bored
Wake up have breakfast
Lie around the pool
Have lunch
Lie around pool
Then go get changed go for dinner
Next day same
We did a boat trip and have been to the beach but it's only sunbathing and pubs.
Three days left and I'm bored
The shops are all the same -fridge magnets ,key rings etc
Went to playa del Ingles -constantly approached to buy things off the sellers
Anyone else ?

What sorts of things do you like to do?

We like to visit historical places and keep really active looking round busy cities so I know a beach break would bore us all to tears!

Teadrinkingmumofone · 22/11/2022 19:33

Gosh, sounds awful 🤣
What did you expect, are there any other activities you can do?

Twospaniels · 22/11/2022 19:33

Can you book a day trip somewhere? Or hire a car and go on an explore?

We love holidaying in the Canaries, but we usually hire a car. Routine would be to go out and about in the car exploring the island in the morning, lunch, then pool or beach, then evening meal.
Get out somewehre different each morning / day

frozendaisy · 22/11/2022 19:33

Do you get in the pool? Maybe a swim would help a bit.

We are not sit around the pool types so tend to go places with something to see. So any local sites of interest? Tours even if it's just famous people stayed here, X was filmed here, type thing.

fairycupcakes · 22/11/2022 19:34

Oh dear OP, a hard life indeed 😂
Strange post indeed - you’ll get ripped apart on here for being ungrateful in the midst of a cost of living crisis!!

MissAmbrosia · 22/11/2022 19:34

I never get bored on holiday but then would never do a hotel/pool/beach only holiday in the first place. I did do one once to be fair - an AI in Cuba. Loved Havana, the rest was just a blur of rum squishies.

FourTeaFallOut · 22/11/2022 19:35

This just doesn't sound like your type of holiday, others are available.

SunshinePlease101 · 22/11/2022 19:35

When I went we hired a car from the hotel car hire and drive around the island and to see the historical sites. Try that

wardrobesandtails · 22/11/2022 19:36

This is only my second time abroad.
The first was 20 years ago so kind of forgot what it was like

passmeapepsi · 22/11/2022 19:36

Yep I hate being on holiday Blush

reviewpreview · 22/11/2022 19:36

Do you read when you're by the pool?

Applecottagetree · 22/11/2022 19:37

Nope.

wardrobesandtails · 22/11/2022 19:37

Yes I've got a book
Then I get hot and flustered and end up just lying there

NoSquirrels · 22/11/2022 19:37

Why have you booked the sort of holiday you don’t enjoy?

I’d bloody love to laze about by the pool reading books. But if I wasn’t someone who enjoyed that, I’d book somewhere with things to do.

AmberGer · 22/11/2022 19:38

I would be bored with that type of holiday too.

RampantIvy · 22/11/2022 19:38

Book a day trip
Hire a car and explore
If you don't drive is there public transport you can use to visit somewhere else?

tearsandtiaras · 22/11/2022 19:40

Water sports?

canyouextrapol · 22/11/2022 19:40

Never done a sit by the pool holiday so no. Always go to somewhere with interesting stuff to do. Even when I went to kefalonia we went off and found it's only little natural history museum

CaronPoivre · 22/11/2022 19:42

I’d be bored to tears with just sitting by a pool. I like warm, I like sea or pool but I’d always want more so we’d not go to somewhere that was limited to just pool and warm. I don’t know Gran Canaria but most holiday places have boat trips, snorkelling or diving, shopping nearby etc. There’s probably historical or geological interest somewhere nearby too.

El Jem in Tunisia was one of the best ‘a bit bored’ trips we’ve ever done - incredible and train trip made it easy. There must be something similar there.

Lagattolove · 22/11/2022 19:42

I get it. I get bored. I don’t like doing nothing. After two days I’m done in one place.

We don’t book any places to stay anymore. Just flights and rock up to a hotel for one two or more nights depending on how much we like the place.

I am a bit weird as I get sick of eating out or full on meals everyday which frustrates DH.

Hoppinggreen · 22/11/2022 19:44

That sounds boring to be fair.
I would be hiring a car and going exploring

Withnoshoes · 22/11/2022 19:44

While I enjoyed hols like this when I was younger I soon realised I got bored. I much prefer to do and to see while I’m on holiday. Maybe that’s more you for future reference??

Notthecarwashagain · 22/11/2022 19:44

Ah I don’t find that fun either.

It’s hard because it seems like it’s the ‘done thing’ to go away, relax on a sun lounger all day, come home with a tan-but it just isn’t relaxing for everyone. It feels like endurance to me!

Hope you find something good to do!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 22/11/2022 19:48

God no! I get through about 6 books on a 2 week beach holiday. Reading in the hot heat, dipping in the pool (often bob about with my shoulders under whilst still reading), people watching, napping, eating ant different restaurants and nightcaps on the hotel bar veranda on repeat? Christ, my idea of utter bliss.

IntrovertedPenguin · 22/11/2022 19:49

Sounds terrible, let me help you and take your place. Grin
