I'm on holiday in Gran Canaria staying in Maspalomas.
The first few days was nice but I'm bored
Wake up have breakfast
Lie around the pool
Have lunch
Lie around pool
Then go get changed go for dinner
Next day same
We did a boat trip and have been to the beach but it's only sunbathing and pubs.
Three days left and I'm bored
The shops are all the same -fridge magnets ,key rings etc
Went to playa del Ingles -constantly approached to buy things off the sellers
Anyone else ?

Sounds hot and dull.

Plastichanger · 22/11/2022 19:51

OP, is the moonlight cinema open? We had a couple of lovely evenings watching films under the stars and eating their delicious pizzas when we were in the area a few years ago.

RaininSummer · 22/11/2022 19:51

That does sound boring to be honest. I could do one day of that at a push. There must be somewhere to go.

CheapMustard · 22/11/2022 19:52

That’s why I don’t go to Gran Canaria. Out of all the islands it’s the most boring. Find some books? Check out any excursions? Cooking class?

Yarrawonga · 22/11/2022 19:53

No, but I suspect that I might if I spent my holidays lying around a pool.

WoolyMammoth55 · 22/11/2022 19:53

Well, how about swimming in the pool instead of lying next to it? See how many laps you can do, time yourself - then try to beat your time in the afternoon?

I'd probably go for some nice hikes if I were you, but time it right so it's not too boiling! What sort of temperature is it?

Hope you manage to have some fun - I'd love to swap places also :)

Blip · 22/11/2022 19:56

They have wresting matches there, it's popular with the locals, you could try that?
Look for local excursions, there will definitely be some.

Allschoolsareartschools · 22/11/2022 19:57

That's dh's dream holiday!
I like it for about 3 days then I start to go stir crazy. I now always choose places with some good walks & decent transport to explore & mix it up a bit.
And a week is more than enough for me!
Does it sound really bad that I found my honeymoon quite boring? Two weeks in a secluded hotel & nothing to do but sit by the pool (apart from the obvious which doesn't take 2 weeks!)😄

Amboseli · 22/11/2022 19:57

I'd love that. Read, swim, listen to music, chat to DH DCs random strangers by the pool, eat and repeat with a day trip or two thrown in.

userxx · 22/11/2022 20:00

I like chilling holidays but I have to break up the day with a long walk somewhere different.

dudsville · 22/11/2022 20:00

I've only had one beach holiday, it was perfect for that moment in time but it's not something I would want generally. Saying that, i generally find holidays a little boring. My home is nice, fine off at home is nice. Once a year we do a destination family reunion, that's enough for me now!

LimeCheesecake · 22/11/2022 20:00

Well I love a beach holiday, but that sounds boring. Id budget 6 books for a week. Also would go to the beach and swim, if I was with the kids play in the pool with them. Generally would find out what touristy things there were to do locally. DH would work out what sporty options were available (like windsurfing or guided mountain biking - they tend to go off super early though in hot countries to be done by mid morning).

If you were holidaying in a cottage in the uk, would you just sit on the sofa for hours in the cottage and do nothing ? Then don’t presume you’d enjoy doing nothing on holiday in another country.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/11/2022 20:00

We play Mystery Bus Tours on holiday. Get the local bus and see where we end up. To be fair when we did this in Majorca in September we had researched all the towns on the internet first.

CraggyIslandTouristBoard · 22/11/2022 20:02

Won’t help much for this trip but there’s a lot more to see and do in Lanzarote. And lots of other tourist destinations too. GC is mainly about sun and pool. Don’t let it put you off future holidays if that’s not your thing.

Choirgirl30 · 22/11/2022 20:04

Get the bus to Porto Mogan, very pretty with lovely beach and lots of nice places to eat.

bingobanjo · 22/11/2022 20:05

Read books, listen to music/podcasts/audiobooks by the pool. Surely that’s obvious, why just sit there??

SusiePevensie · 22/11/2022 20:07

The museum at Faro des Maspolomas looks worth a visit. Or you could go star gazing with ASTRO GC. Or there's the botanical garden.

Floralnomad · 22/11/2022 20:07

Exactly why I don’t go on this type of holiday , give me a few days on a city break over a pool / beach anytime .

CaronPoivre · 22/11/2022 19:42

I’d be bored to tears with just sitting by a pool. I like warm, I like sea or pool but I’d always want more so we’d not go to somewhere that was limited to just pool and warm. I don’t know Gran Canaria but most holiday places have boat trips, snorkelling or diving, shopping nearby etc. There’s probably historical or geological interest somewhere nearby too.

El Jem in Tunisia was one of the best ‘a bit bored’ trips we’ve ever done - incredible and train trip made it easy. There must be something similar there.

Loved El Jem, Amazing. Preferred it to Colosseum.

Zippitydoodaa · 22/11/2022 20:11

Gran Canaria is a lovely place to explore , jump on a bus and visit some of the smaller towns or villages .Porta Mogan is like a little Venice .Some lovely little places to explore.

monkeysmum21 · 22/11/2022 20:13

Did you research the area before buying the holidays? What did you expect to happen and it’s not happening?
You can do some scuba diving, paddle boarding, hiking, visit a botanical garden and learn about plants and trees from other climate, you can learn about volcanic rocks, enjoy a nudist beach, you can go out and enjoy the nightlife where locals go…

DappledThings · 22/11/2022 20:14

I'd be bored on that holiday too but it isn't the holiday I would have booked.

Hotel pool holidays are not the only kind of holiday

I've been to Gran Canaria and other than the glorious weather and sea view it was boring

MerryChristmasToYou · 22/11/2022 20:19

I loved my holiday in Tunisia and would like to go again
