I'm on holiday in Gran Canaria staying in Maspalomas.
The first few days was nice but I'm bored
Wake up have breakfast
Lie around the pool
Have lunch
Lie around pool
Then go get changed go for dinner
Next day same
We did a boat trip and have been to the beach but it's only sunbathing and pubs.
Three days left and I'm bored
The shops are all the same -fridge magnets ,key rings etc
Went to playa del Ingles -constantly approached to buy things off the sellers
Anyone else ?

My parents do those types of holidays almost exclusively. Their routine is: get up, have breakfast, sit by the pool, have some beers with a lunch, go for a nap, get up and go to the bar, go for dinner, after dinner drinks, bed. I'd absolutely hate it! Places like Gran Canaria are made for them though because they genuinely don't want to do anything else.

Hancox432 · 22/11/2022 21:43

Much prefer a city break or a Florida holiday. Can't stand just sitting at the beach day after day.

People I don't get are the ones that go to somewhere like Mexico and don't leave the resort. Might aswell just go to Spain

honeylulu · 22/11/2022 21:46

Go somewhere more interesting

JamSandle · 22/11/2022 21:46

I dont but I dont sit still on holiday XD

WordtoYoMumma · 22/11/2022 21:51

Yes I'd find that incredibly boring. So I don't go on those types of holiday!

Brieeeeeeeee · 22/11/2022 21:53

I’d love this at the moment - I have a list of books that I want to read and podcasts I need to catch up on. It sounds heavenly. But I also like to swim, walk on the beach, hike, explore. What do you like to do?

greenhousegal · 22/11/2022 21:59

I'm lucky enough to be in southern Spain for a month, back home v soon though! I'm with partner who is recovering from knee replacement so is not up to much and that's fine, the amazing weather here for the last three plus weeks has helped him. Retired and using my sister and her DH fab apartment in Estepona.

Anyway, I was getting bored too! So I found places to go on my own. Took a bus to Ronda and then train to Cordoba from there and stayed the night. Got bus to La Linea and spent the day in Gibraltar. Am going to Cadiz for the day on Friday v early start. I'll be ok then as we coming home shortly after.

I know it all sounds as if I am boasting, nope... just showing that you CAN go off and do things independently of others. It can be daunting trying to figure out trains and buses, but that's part of the fun! Get out and go girl!

They have wresting matches there, it's popular with the locals, you could try that?
Look for local excursions, there will definitely be some.

What if the OP isn't very muscular?

FinallyHere · 22/11/2022 22:02

Try somewhere with a bit more to do

@debwong

So funny 😂 bet you'd be great fun on hols.

Hangupsrus · 22/11/2022 22:06

Op I feel your pain, I've been feeling like that for the last few years on holidays having done them for almost 40 years now in a very similar vein to your holiday. So much so that I actually don't want to go away next year unless it's to somewhere completely different.

Hbh17 · 22/11/2022 22:17

I never get bored on a beach holiday, because I have a Kindle. I can easily read between 6 and 8 books in a week (inc in bed at night) so it is just blissful.

shinynewapple22 · 22/11/2022 22:38

Can't say I ever get bored on holiday - no!

Are you staying all inclusive where you have all your meals in the hotel ? I don't think I would like that as one of our favourite things on holiday is choosing where to eat each evening - or sometimes if we go out for the day we'll just crash in the apartment with some bread and cheese.

We normally hire a car at the airport and have an apartment so we've got a bit more space around us - have a few days where we potter around locally and other days where we go a bit further afield .

Similar kind of holiday that @greenhousegal is describing except we drive rather than take the bus . In fact - we are off to Estepona on our next holiday - how did you find the road up to Ronda - is it very steep and winding ? It's our second holiday there so we are planning a few different trips - we just went to a few of the coastal resorts and to Gibraltar when we went before.

Also I love to read on holiday - like another poster I take a kindle and can get through several books . If I felt uncomfortably hot in the sun I would just move into the shade and carry on reading.

Movinghouseatlast · 22/11/2022 23:00

My perfect holiday! Lots of books, lots of swimming.

We are all different though. I don't like city breaks and hated New York.

bluechameleon · 22/11/2022 23:20

No I don't get bored on holiday, but I would be bored on the holiday you describe. I like going to museums, galleries, historical sites, markets, local restaurants, theme parks, water parks, interesting towns/villages, walks in pretty/dramatic countryside, rides on interesting transport (cable cars, steam trains etc) - can you do any of these things where you are? Can you go on a different boat ride? Go snorkelling/diving/sailing?

Cherrysherbet · 22/11/2022 23:25

We were in Maspalomas in October this year. It’s a lovely place op!
Have you been to Morgan? or Pueto Rico?
The water park nearby is amazing fun! We went there a couple of times and the slides were awesome! We definitely weren’t bored!

Witheringheights83 · 23/11/2022 09:21

Just go somewhere more interesting next time. New York?

Softplayhooray · 23/11/2022 10:19

wardrobesandtails · 22/11/2022 19:37

Yes I've got a book
Then I get hot and flustered and end up just lying there

Well that's your problem then isn't it! You're literally just lying down and getting overheated! You wouldn't just lie there at home doing nothing.

You need to be under a parasol so not too hot, with a good book, drinks, nice little snacks, and hit the pool often. Enjoy the relaxation!

wardrobesandtails · 23/11/2022 10:20

We are currently in a taxi going into Puerto Rico
It looks really nice
And plan on going into Mogan too
Weather is lovely still too

If you go on holiday, but don't research the destination before you go and plan things to do while you're there I'm not surprised you're bored!

IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 23/11/2022 10:28

Oh no, how absolutely awful for you, you poor thing. It's pouring with rain here and I wish I could be somewhere warm and sunny. Not had a holiday for years

LaLaLouella · 23/11/2022 10:31

Well you've booked the wrong type of holiday then haven't you!

I get bored sitting round a pool which is why I don't do it - I like city breaks, skiing, diving, treks....

Do something different next time!

Summersdreaming · 23/11/2022 10:33

Go to Morgan on Friday (Market day)
Go up the volcano
Walk from Puerto Rico beach to Amadores along the coastal path
Do watersports
Go on a dolphin boat
Snorkel
Walk the sand dunes or take a camel ride
Go into las palmas for some city shopping

Summersdreaming · 23/11/2022 10:33

bumblingbovine49 · 23/11/2022 10:38

There are lots of exciting things you can do in Gran Canaria but you have to organise them. You also need to pay for them of course but only one or two of these trips would make a week's holiday for me. I m happy with shopping, sunbathing and swimming the rest of the time. I like 1-2 days on the beach lazing, followed by a day trip, then another 1-2 days lazing then another trip. then a week is gone
